  1. He was drafted by the Panthers as a 20-year-old out of Michigan. He didn't redshirt and came out after his junior season. Pretty sure he was one of the youngest, if not the youngest player in that 2015 draft. He's got his warts, but one of the big positives is he's entering the age where most receivers hit their athletic prime. Signing a guy like Emmanuel Sanders would have been more of a sure thing, but he's definitely a guy who is on a significant downslope of his career. Funchess, in comparison, is theoretically still on the chair lift. At the very least, he should provide a competent red zone target and mismatch problem. His upside (should he be able to improve his hands and drop issue) is as a younger, faster and more athletic Jimmy Graham. Because let's be honest ... Graham has always been a TE in name only.
  2. Is the comment about his hands related to his targeted completion percentage? Whether yes or no, I do wonder if he'll be viewed as a better pass catcher when he has a HOF QB throwing to him rather than Cam Newton and his career 59% completion percentage.... It is pretty well known that Funchess has had a bit of a drop problem in his career. Of course, having an inaccurate QB throwing him the ball will play a role in that, but it's still something he needs to improve. His hands have been considered somewhat suspect going back to his time at Michigan. Of course, Davante Adams once had a bit of a drop problem as well. He is proof that a talented receiver can overcome that.
  3. I agree with this. Anything around $6 million or below is fine. I would have preferred Breshad Perriman, but Funchess is still young and has some upside. He doesn't have great hands, but is a huge target with solid speed. He is a better version of Geronimo Allison, and I expect him to him to play a similar role. I'd like to see them take a flyer on a younger speed guy like Demarcus Robinson or Tajae Sharpe. Taylor Gabriel would be a fun toy as well.
  4. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan New York Mets starter Noah Syndergaard has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery in the near future, sources tell ESPN. The procedure will keep him out until at earliest April 2021 and likely into the summer months. I don't know if he was ever on the Brewers' radar, but bullet dodged! Of course, that assumes there is baseball eventually this year.
  5. I live in the Eagle River/Three Lakes area. The area is currently packed with FIBs. It's pretty terrible. We have 10 ICU beds in the whole county. THE WHOLE COUNTY!
  6. I live in northern Wisconsin, and a lot of them are already here Your dang vacation home is not the right spot to shelter in place! Our hospital system is pretty lax up here as it is, without FIBs taxing it by trying to escape Chicago.
  7. Yep ... kids specializing in a particular sport and playing it year round from 8 years old and up is bad. It burns kids out. I know there's the "what about those kids in the Dominican?" argument, but it's apples and oranges. The kids in Latin America really having nothing else besides baseball ... and soccer, if they are lucky.
  8. Right! Diggs is a fine receiver, but he's not DeAndre Hopkins. Not even close. He's a solid complementary guy.
  9. It appears that Packers have signed ex-Browns ILB Christian Kirksey to a 2-year/$16 million contract. He's a solid player if he can stay healthy. More athletic than Martinez. Better in pass coverage. Also a good leader who was voted captain his second year in the league. Of course, health is the huge issue, and why the Packers were able to get him for the price they did.
  10. My kids' school has their scheduled spring break scheduled to start April 6. Assuming state schools will be back in session that week, I would imagine that the district would cancel that week off. But of course there are parents in the district already complaining because canceling spring break would cut into their "concrete" vacation plans. I mean, really? Everyone is extremely inconvenienced by this mess, and you're worried about a monkey wrench being thrown into your trip to Florida to drink White Claw on the beach while you ignore your kids?
  11. I know the answer to this. It's because they are much, much smarter baseball decision makers than we are. Which, you know, they have proven. Counsell has had him in the rotation all along this spring, which tells me that they see him as a fixture there, despite what us know-nothings say otherwise.
  12. Whether or not this is true it's laughably stupid. If I run out I will wipe my rear with a cloth and machine wash the cloth. My kids were in cloth diapers and we survived basically that way for a long time. Or just jump in the shower or something. My wife and I were low on TP earlier this week and we kinda kept putting it off. She went out last night to get some and she bought the last rolls in town from a local Kwik Trip. She got 6 rolls. The lady working said people have been coming from Madison(about 30-45 min) because there is none there. Well, at least your neighbor Karen has 400 rolls she binge-bought/hoarded on Tuesday in her closet all ready to go. The lesson in all this - people can be pretty terrible.
  13. Braun has a shoulder injury and is unable to throw. If he opens on the DL, Morrison will certainly make the club. Further, they're not going release Smoak and eat a $5 million dollar contract at the end of ST, its just not something the organization does. Morrison is a mediocre slugger who doesn't really fit the profile of the players the Brewers have, that being said at some point if he maintains a hot bat in ST .333/.400/.667, you'd have to imagine he will earn his way onto the roster as the 26th man to start the year. Plus the Brewers have had a track record of keeping a slugging first baseman as a bench player after a huge spring: Ji-Man Choi, Jesus Aguilar for example I just don't see Morrison making the 26-man roster unless Gamel goes to AAA and he becomes the 4th OF. Morrison has said he does not want to be the 26th man because he needs more ABs to be effective. I believe if CC tells him that's going to be his role, he'll opt out and go elsewhere. I don't think that's how it works. The Brewers own his rights, and if they choose to add him to the major league roster, he can't opt out. His only opt out opportunity is if they choose not to add him to the 40-man.
  14. You keep preaching this, and I keep responding by saying that there is absolutely no indication that Houser's spot in the rotation is anywhere close to being in jeopardy. No matter how much you want it, you simply cannot wish it true. Every time Counsell has been asked about his rotation this spring, Houser has been a part of it.
  15. Cephus ran a 4.56 at UW's pro day today. Not blazing, but a heck of a lot better than his combine number. That might sneak him into 3rd-4th round territory.
  16. It is for this reason, and many others, that I am glad that David Stearns runs this team, and not random message board posters. Absolutely agree with this point. That said, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. The way you dug your heels in two years ago, if you were running the team Christian Yelich would never have seen a Brewer uniform and probably be a Cardinal. But wouldn't Turbo also be one of those random message board posters who he's glad doesn't run the team? I took his post as showing appreciation for David Stearns.
  17. Unless he plans to retire he might not have a choice. He's on a minor league contact and hasn't really shown anything at the MLB level the last couple of years. Even if he makes the team out of spring it's no guarantee he doesn't end up in the minors at some point. Actually he does. He has an opt-out that he can exercise to get him out of his Brewers minor-league deal prior to the start of the season. If the Brewers do add him to the 40-man, he no longer has options remaining, so he can declare free agency if he's outrighted after the season begins. In an interview a few weeks ago, he more or less alluded to the idea that he'd likely retire if he doesn't make the majors out of Spring Training. He apparently is looking at this season as his final shot to make some noise at the major league level, and if it doesn't happen, he's content to go home, live on the money he's already made (career earnings of nearly $20 million according to Baseball Reference) and be a family man. I'm pretty indifferent to Morrison the player, but I admire his decision as a person.
  18. wasn't it turner ward? Definitely Brady Clark. I remember it well. One of the finest catches in the team's history, but it got next to no love nationally due to how terrible the team was at that time.
  19. The Lauer news would seemingly contradict this statement.
  20. Will Sammon @WillSammon · 1m Eric Lauer, competing for fifth starter job for Brewers, dealing with left shoulder impingement, relatively minor but issue does rule out start of the season, Counsell said. Guess that opens a spot for Freddy as the #5, at least for a little while.
  21. I think those players were non-tendered because the team determined that they weren't worth the tender offer. The majority of the guys they let go are probably replacement level or below. They replaced those guys with cheaper versions that they feel will provide similar if not better production.
  22. He's already said he won't play in AAA, so your 2nd point is moot. I think he more than likely makes it as the 26th man, at Gamel's expense. I'm fine either way they go, but I understand the appeal of having Morrison's lefty power bat on the bench.
  23. How do you get outs consistently as starters if not given the chance to start? Based on that argument, why are you so accepting of Lindblom in the rotation? Sure he carved up AA caliber hitters in a starting role in Korea. Maybe his stuff plays here, maybe not. I've made clear I don't think it will, but that's just my opinion. Despite what went wrong with those 2 guys last year, they are the future and I'm sure they took quite a bit from their lumps last year...and are better for it. They'll have plenty of opportunities to start in San Antonio. Prove yourself there, then we can talk. Lindblom is older, and has 150 innings of major league experience to draw from, on top of 825 innings of very good foreign experience. He isn't getting paid enough where his spot is necessarily secure, either, though. Yeah, Burnes and Peralta are the future. But having them prove themselves in AAA doesn't change that.
  24. I feel the opposite way. I don't want to see Peralta and Burnes anywhere close to the rotation until they can prove that they can get outs consistently as starters. Both of them were terrible last year, and were a big reason why this team had to go on a historic run in September to sneak into the playoffs. A few solid Spring Training starts doesn't prove that they will be effective. If it were up to me, I'd send them both to San Antonio to start the year, but that doesn't sound like it's going to happen, at least with Peralta. The team signed Lindblom and Anderson to be in the rotation, and that's where they should stay, until they prove they don't belong. Woodruff Houser Anderson Lindblom Lauer That would be my 5 to begin the year.
  25. I personally am glad that we have a front office that wouldn't dream of cutting a moderately priced free agent starter after a couple shaky Spring Training outings.
