  1. No one is giving Hader a pass. No one at all. That is a made-up narrative. That just isn't true. There are a lot of people pretending Grisham caused this. I saw the TexasCheesehead guy, and he was called out on it by plenty of posters for being wrong, to the point where people were putting him on ignore and he was close to getting banned last night. So ... 1 guy, who was wrong. I think most blame Hader. But if you are looking for people to agree with your take that Hader is done, good luck.
  2. It is quite a large difference and Grandal did it while playing every day basically. I love Pina....as a backup. I think he's a perfect backup which means having a great starter is very valuable cause you never feel like you're missing a beat. I don't trust Pina's OPS to hold up that well if he's starting every day and I also don't expect him to play as much as Yaz which means our backup gets more time and we don't even really have a great option there either. I think Pina has basically proven that he's a solid backup .. perhaps one of if not the best backup catchers in the league. But he wears down when depended on for a near everyday role. I think that if Grandal is not resigned, you at least have to find a platoon mate that can do a 50/50 playing time split with Pina. i don't know if they'd be willing to hand that role to Nottingham or Freitas.
  3. Agreed wholeheartedly. With this whole post, but especially the last sentence. I know we've kind of been conditioned as Brewer fans that all good relievers are flashes in the pan, but comparing Hader to waiver wire and Indy-ball retreads is almost laughable.
  4. IMO, the Brewers erred in not picking up Lyles' option last season. The guy is a solid pitcher ... maybe even a good pitcher. Is he the ace-like pitcher that we saw from August on this year? No, probably not. But even if his ceiling is as a solid mid-rotation guy, that's extremely useful and valuable.
  5. Woodruff threw a grand total of 4 innings since coming off the IL. Getting 4 out of him last night was a godsend, and probably more than could be expected. Looking back, I think that the plan was to get 2 innings from Suter, but that blew up when Suter got in trouble in the 5th. You get two from Suter, then Pom gets the 7th and 8th, and you go to Hader in the 9th. I would have been much more comfortable with that, but it just didn't work out.
  6. $4-5 million is pretty much second-tier reliever FA money I think. If I'm Stearns, I'm willing to gamble that on the perceived upside that Nelson brings. I don't think the progress is what the Brewers had hoped, but at the end, Nelson finally began to look similar to the 2017 version. He will be an interesting one to monitor this offseason.
  7. I expect that they won't make the same mistake they did with Wade Miley, and will make a concerted effort to resign Jordan Lyles. Gio may be back as well, but I think that's a little more iffy. I agree that Peralta is likely in the pen full time moving forward. I think Burnes starts the year at AAA, but I expect him to make starts with the Brewers at some point next year. Houser showed well as a starter for the most part, and has a full starter's arsenal of pitches. I think he's 100% in the rotation next year. Maybe we'll see Davies or Anderson dealt, but I bet one is back for sure. 1. Woodruff 2. Lyles 3. Houser 4. Davies 5. Gio? Anderson? FA acquisition? Eventually Burnes? Then there's Nelson. I personally want to see him given a shot at earning a rotation spot. obviously the progress was slow, but I think he did make progress, and his last few appearances out of the pen were very encouraging. Lots of question marks, but the cupboard is far from bare.
  8. players: -re-sign any of Pomeranz, Lyles, Grandal, and Moose? I think you try to get all those guys back. -Is Nelson a starter or reliever? looked good in last month's outings You have to give him another shot in the rotation I think, but be ready to shift him if the stuff just isn't there. -Peralta to AAA rotation, MLB rotation, or MLB pen? he's still awfully young, but loved the velocity jump I think he's a pen guy moving forward. That isn't a knock, just where I think his stuff fits the best, in higher leverage shorter bursts. -Burnes to AAA rotation, MLB rotation, or MLB pen? Probably AAA rotation, but he'll make big league starts next year -Houser to rotation or 1-2 IP 6th-7th inning guy? Rotation, without a doubt. -Suter as 2 IP reliever or starter? Multi-inning reliever. He's found his calling. -1b. Will it be Thames at $7.5m, Shaw at $4m, Braun, or someone else? Thames and Braun I think, or a cheap RH option to platoon with Thames -3b. Will it be Shaw or Moose? Hopefully Moose, but who knows? -What kind of value does Shaw, Davies, and Anderson have on the trade market? Davies and Anderson were decent this year, so they could likely fetch something solid. Shaw probably isn't worth much of anything. -Perez or someone more valuable offensively? Probably Spangenberg. Puts together better ABs -is Nottingham ready to be a backup? Maybe. But he might be dealt if Grandal is resigned. philosophies: - how to improve situational hitting and have more sustained rallies Hiura and Grisham for full seasons will help. - can we add the DH? Keston says "Yes please."
  9. Arcia had one of the few hits tonight, and has been hitting the ball better of late. I have no problem with him taking that AB. I feel like he's one of the few who doesn't go up there trying to constantly hit a homer. As far as I'm concerned, for 2020, he's on a short leash. If he struggles to get to the Uecker line, I'm callin' for Moose at short and Braun at third. Just stop ... not tonight. This borders on trolling IMO.

  11. I'm sure they will, and it will be fine. This is a season, especially for the last month, that should be remembered and honored. Really? I can understand in 2008, when it was a 1 WC team format. Or even if we had won tonight. I had kind of hoped that we are past the point where we would celebrate being a team that lost the WC play-in game between the #4 and #5 seeded teams in the league. I can't imagine that is a thing in any other stadium, but maybe I am wrong. Not saying that this season shouldn't be celebrated or that it was a disappointment, but I think our goals have gotten a little beyond that. This isn't 2007 anymore. I think it's pretentious to poo-poo a season where you made the postseason. It isn't like this team deserves to have some type of Cardinals-esque sense of entitlement. Making the playoffs in MLB is tough, and doing it in back-to-back years is even tougher.

  13. He is a nice target if healthy & I like the idea of AJ Green playing in a division other than the AFC North. But how much are the Packers willing to give up and why is Cinci looking to deal Green?? Green is basically a rental, and the Bengals are terrible. It makes perfect sense to sell him to the highest bidder.
  14. Next up is an undefeated Wisconsin team get demolished in Columbus. Sad...but probably true. Wow, misery apparently loves company LOL
  15. Hader is a more highly touted prospect than both but it became obvious he isn't a good closer and CC insisted. In a do or die game like this I don't know for the life of me why he had to pigeonhole him into that role. I can justify it over an entire season using him in the spot to get the most wins but there was no way in hell I would have used him like that tonight after the episode in Colorado, against the meat of the order in a 2-run game, as much as he's struggled to keep the ball in the park. Like I said, the result of Hader's appearance tonight was comically predictable, he should've entered that game in the 6th and his ass should have been on the bench with one guy on base. Something wasn't right for the last week and everyone could tell except the guy making the decisions. This is a much more sane, reasonable take. I think Counsell fell into an old-school manager trap of "needing" to have a set 9th inning guy. For the most part it worked for the majority of the season, but it didn't tonight, in the biggest game of the year. And that sucks. If Counsell is worth his salt, he'll get away from the set 9th inning role for Hader next year, and turn him back into a matchup multi inning guy.
  16. Hey, a good take Yep, this team has quite a few interesting pitching options for next year. I'd love to see Pomeranz back, but that guy made himself a lot of money over the last couple months.
  17. BS ... this was 100% a playoff game. My blood pressure would prove it. Real baseball playoffs involve series that cover a few games and a few days and an opportunity for the home fans to attend at least one game in person. To me, this doesn’t qualify. If blood pressure is the measure, try the last game of the 82 season against the Orioles after the Brewers lost 3 in a row to them. fine, agree to disagree then. This team made the playoffs. It sucks the way the season ended, just like every team that makes the playoffs but one.
  18. No, that's not what you said before. You harped over and over again that it's Trent Grisham's fault. And you weren't "a little mad". You said you wanted him teaded to Baltimore so we never have to see him again and hope he remembers all offseason about how *he* (singular) ruined our entire season. He screwed up. He made a mistake and it cost us big time. Prior to that, the offense screwing up by not getting a single hit w/ RISP followed by Hader screwing up by repeatedly failing to get that final out of the 8th inning while it was still 3-1. Get over it. It's done and it won't be the last time a professional baseball player screws up. If it makes you feel so much better to remind everyone repeatedly about what an awful human being Trent Grisham is than save it for your buddies at home. here, here
  19. You just keep doubling and tripling down on this horrible take. I'm going to chalk it up to the emotion of the IGT and this terrible loss. I'm sure you'll eventually realize how bad this take actually sounds. Derrick Turnbow? LOL sure You're not really this sage guy you think you are. You were #1 "Jeffress is giving up cheap hits, he's fine" guy. When Hader finishes the Brewers reliever life cycle and sucks next year you'll wish they'd gotten rid of him this winter. I agree with 82 ... this isn't a crap take, it's an immature one. Jeffress was terrific last year, and obviously lost it this year. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him latch on somewhere and be an effective reliever again. Relief pitching is volatile. Jeffress was a journeyman who found something last year. I was hoping he'd find it again this year, but it didn't happen. Hader is young, proven and is going to keep on throwing gas. His talent is in a different stratosphere than Jeffress. He isn't going anywhere.
  20. I wonder if Knebel is on schedule with his rehab, and if he'll be able to start the season in the pen. Installing him as the closer and moving Hader back to that set-up multi inning role would make this pen so much better. Y’all are idiots. Hader won 2 reliver of the month awards and might win reliever of the year and you want him down Yes, he is more valuable in the role he played most of 2018 than as the straight closer. He was a better pitcher last year. You can use him for matchups rather than just saying "it's the 9th, time for Hader."
