  1. Ben Gamel is the type of guy who is going to have tons of passionate fans. Plays the game hard.
  2. Really nice inning from Jeffress there. It's nice to see him in these high leverage spots again. Good stuff tonight, too. Nasty movement on the curve, and hitting 94-95 with the FB, while keeping it low in the zone. Seems like he is getting very close to full strength.
  3. Yep, this. Shaw has always been a streaky hitter. That's just who he is. It just so happens that this extended cold streak to begin the year coincides with two of the team's top prospects, Hiura and Erceg, hitting very well at AAA. At 29 years old, Shaw is squarely in his athletic prime. There is no reason that he won't eventually come out of this. And a hot-hitting Shaw has proven that he can carry this team for stretches.
  4. Yep ... NBA playoff schedule is crap. Total and utter crap. But it's also been that way a long time.
  5. I know it's still early, but it's beginning to look like the Zach Davies we saw in 2017 is the real Davies, and last year's injury-plagued results are the outlier. I love Davies as a pitcher. He's got that bulldog mentality despite looking like a 15-year-old. It's a cliche, but he's one of those guys who just knows how to pitch.
  6. Still need to get job done & keep ball in Park. Anything good for Burnes helps rebuild confidence on mound. Chacin Anderson Woodruff Gio Davies I think will be rotation moving forward. Think same as Burnes, Freddy should go down & get some good outings under his belt. Burnes will get another opportunity this year & hopefully he is all figured out by then. I hope that is the rotation is stick with as well once Anderson comes back. I imagine we might see Burch Smith take the ball tomorrow, depending on if he's needed tonight. I think they'll also likely have to find a spot for Nelson in a couple weeks, but I guess Anderson could theoretically go back to the pen. I agree on Freddy as well. Love his stuff, but I don't trust him at all in the pen. He needs to go to San Antonio and work on his secondary pitches.
  7. I wouldn't say you were 100% incorrect. JJ hasn't been the shut-down high-leverage reliever he was last year so far, but there have been positive steps toward that. Thanks for the man up by coming here to admit you were wrong, though. A lot of people aren't willing to do that. I am skeptical of JJ, but it's certainly very nice having him out there again. Like I said above, I doubt he'll be able to match last year's dominance, but he's been serviceable to solid so far, and that is improvement enough for this pen.
  8. Yes, extremely positive step. He's on pace to make a couple more starts at the AAA level, then be up at the end of May/early June. A little later than I had originally hoped, but certainly not worrisome. I'm not looking for him to come back and immediately be 2017 Jimmy, but even if he can come in and provide Gio-like lines of 5 IP, 2-3 ER, I'll take it.
  9. When he has his command under control, Taylor Williams is an excellent reliever. I imagine he's going to go down tomorrow, but tonight's game was a great step toward getting him right.
  10. Less than a week ago, some of even the most supportive Braun guys were starting to question whether he should have been playing as much as he was. Baseball is maddenly fun.
  11. Woodruff is the oldest and most experienced of the three, so I guess it stands to reason that his growing pains haven't been as severe. It is great to see him pitching well, though.
  12. It took awhile, but Braun is heating up. Certainly nice to see Braun and Aguilar hitting the ball better with Yelich down.
  13. The first one of his movies was a total redemption arc, and that's I think what they are setting up again for him. What has made that character so endearing, I think, is that even with immense power, he is still a very flawed character. He also lost basically everything, and blames himself for the snap, which came fresh off of losing his family, half of his people and his homeworld. The guy hasn't had a very good last 5 or so years. The filmmakers are showing that, while yes he is powerful and can even be considered a god, there are still plenty of qualities that humanize him. Yeah, they made light of it in the movie, but when you think about it, its a pretty deep issue. It will be interesting to see where they go next with him. They obviously set up what could be a fun story arc for him and his new crew.
  14. Fixed! C'mon man. Every thread here has devolved into a yip fest lately. Let the eternal optimists have something.
  15. My GIF game also needs to work on it's secondary stuff.
  16. This. I know hindsight and all, but inserting Freddy back in the rotation so quickly was an odd decision then, and an odd one now. They've finally found a little balance, then turned around and decided to throw it all out of whack again. I know these young guys need to develop, but there is no reason that a guy like Peralta can't spend time in AAA working on perfecting his secondary offerings.
  17. I liked it but have read some interesting things other places. One person went on and on about it being a "love letter to the fans". I wouldn't go that far. It was a very good, solid movie, with plenty of plot holes to pick apart. It had a nice mix of heavy emotion and humor mixed in with well-done action sequences and great callbacks to previous movies and comics. They certainly teased enough to keep me interested in the films they have planned for the next phase. I am not sure how interested I am in a Black Widow movie, though, moreso given the character choices they made with her in this one. I won't say anymore, as to avoid spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it.
  18. So ... Endgame was pretty awesome.
  19. Who would have thought that Burch Smith would look like a legitimate rotation option at any point this year? But here we are. At this point, I just want to see Jimmy Nelson, for the emotional value more than anything.
  20. JJ didn't get much Spring Training. I think concern is warranted, but he's looked fine in his other outings, and was hitting 93-94. I want to see if he bounces back before getting worried. I know this isn't popular, but I just don't think he's that good. He's certainly dealing with a shoulder issue, but I've said all off-season, and I think others have agreed(maybe?) that last year was an outlier. He was never going to be THAT pitcher again. So if you're expecting him to dominate like that, you're going to be disappointed no matter what. Seeing him coming back, getting his velocity back up slowly and getting his movement has me encouraged that he's going to be more like the pitcher he's normally been for the Brewers. A pretty good high leverage reliever, but not a dominant, among the best in the league type. He nearly came out of nowhere last year to put up a 1.8 ERA and serve as a shut-down, All-Star reliever who was used in a multitude of roles, all successful. I don't think anyone should expect that again. But I think he is completely capable of throwing 60-70 some innings with a 2-3-ish ERA. Given his stuff, I don't think that is shooting for the moon.
  21. Chacin is a free agent after this season as well. He'd be a prime trade candidate.
  22. Or our expectations for these guys were out of whack. I'll admit, I was very bullish on Woodruff and Burnes. I expected them to be solid low to mid-3 era types. Perhaps Woody can prove to be that this year, but I haven't seen anything from Burnes that says he can be that as a starter this year. I did not and have not had super high expectations regarding Peralta. He has shown just enough in his short career to make me think he may just defy my expectations, though. Obviously he's been flat out bad. That game against the Reds looks like an aberration. I figured the pen would be able to pull it together and be respectable. In reality, they've had moments where they approach that. But a lot of moments where they haven't, too.
  23. Considering the leverage situations he's being used in, it's probably more down than up, but for the most part, yeah. So if this is typical of his career, how can we blame the pitching coach? Does DJ now become a garbage pitching coach? Of course not. And regarding Hook, a lot of these young guys flourished under his teaching in the minors. I can't imagine he started following a different protocol once he was named the MLB pitching coach. I guess at the end of the day, you just got to chalk it up to "that's baseball".
