  1. Just how many young pitchers come up and dominate? I was hoping for better from Houser tonight for sure, but all is certainly not lost. I think he showed enough for a longer audition.
  2. I mean, did you really expect anything more? Not all of us are pessimists.
  3. Wilkerson is just another guy. Houser is more than that. Good velocity and movement ... way, way too many pitches left right on the heart of the plate. Seems to be happening a lot.
  4. Relax, the rotation is going to get better, we have loads of talent, just off to a bad start, it’ll come around. By playoff time it’ll be a strength. Kimbrel would give us another Josh Hader, stats almost identical. Kimbrel’s career #s actually better. So what do you think? Not a difference maker? Really? You don’t think he would improve our pen tremendously? Would he make a difference? Yes. Is he a cure-all? Not even close.
  5. That is likely. It isn't stoping the conspiracy theorist in me from thinking they might be preparing him for a multi-inning pen role. I want him to remain a starting pitcher, though. That's where he is going to have the most value in the future.
  6. It's what they do apparently. It is too early in the year for a team to look like it's hit a wall, but that's what this team looks like, especially on offense.
  7. It seems odd to me that they wouldn't leave him out there for his typical starter's pitch count. He seemed to be pitching just fine.
  8. One thing I have noticed .... in the few starts that Pina gets, it seems like we get better performances from the starting pitching. Is it a pitch calling thing? It's just odd.
  9. Nice velocity too. I saw a bunch of 95s and a 96 or two. Houser is a nice power arm.
  10. A solid first inning? Just the opponent. Felt like every episode has been the same characters. New starting pitcher for the Brewers at least. That's different.
  11. I feel like Bill Murray on Groundhog Day. I hadn’t seen it mentioned anywhere on this site, and to my knowledge, it’s the first credible source saying they are talking, in quite awhile. Stearns has to know this is the difference maker. If you believe these "insiders", they've been "in contact" since early March. At this point, it's really hard not to be in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp.
  12. I feel like Bill Murray on Groundhog Day.
  13. Given the familiarity and the Brewers' need for a steady influence in the rotation (not to mention a lefty), I'd say yep.
  14. Nice to have? Not so sure bout that. Do we really need another depth starter? Just asking. The crew going with the trio in rotation to develope as starters, plus Chacín Davies Anderson Wilkerson Houser And soon Nelson. That’s 9. Maybe he’s a better option than 3 or 4 of those 9, but maybe not. Unless we develope our trio in AAA, but not sure we should do that. In my mind, Keuchel and Gonzalez are roughly pretty equal, so yes, nice to have. Right now, Gio would probably be #2 or #3 in this rotation, depending on where you put Anderson. Right now, on April 22, I'd trust Gio to start a game and keep the team competitive more than everyone except Davies and Chacin. It would be a toss-up with Woodruff.
  15. Agreed! I've been on the Houser bandwagon for awhile now. Hoping he grabs the bull by the horns tonight and forces the Brewers to leave him in the rotation.
  16. I don't think the difference between Gio and Keuchel is great enough to warrant the higher cost Keuchel would demand, so I'd be all for a Gio acquisition. He's a solid guy who will keep you in the game, which right now would be a pretty nice thing to have.
  17. What are those extreme solutions being thrown around? I'd love to hear them. Got a link? Personally, I think the extreme situations would be the talk of scheduled piggyback games and doing away with the traditional 5-man rotation. Those are two that stick in my mind that I personally didn't see much chance of happening. I do think that a lot of what they did last year was out of necessity, but the fact that it worked so effectively has opened it up as a viable option to once again employ when the situation calls for it. I just don't think we're going to see that philosophy utilized on a regular basis, though, until rosters expand. And much of that will depend on the state of the rotation at that time.
  18. You are making so many rhetorical leaps and assumptions in this post that I don't even really know where to begin. You've created a narrative in your head of how you believe this has all happened, and you're refusing to allow for any variables, while also seemingly getting upset that other posters aren't on board with your narrative. As I've mentioned to you before, this is not going to help you win any arguments. I've attempted to do that, and it's just made me look like a fool. I think other posters are just trying to help you see that there is quite possibly other variables in play other than the team being hamstrung by budget constraints.
  19. That is great news. The team could use his versatility.
  20. It's because Tiger's popularity transcends golf. He was easily the most popular player during his dominant stretch, and his fall from grace actually made him more popular, as it humanized him. People love redemption stories.
  21. There could be any number of reasons why not and no matter how many times you post that you want him signed you still don't know any of them. None of us do. Maybe it will come out (what the hold up was) once he signs with the Brewers or another team. Any number of reasons? Other than not wanting to spend the $, curious what those reasons might be? If you believe the rumors that they got close back in March, it is likely the Brewers did a medical eval on him. Perhaps something came up there? Perhaps they feel he wouldn't be a fit in the locker room or personality-wise? Perhaps Kimbrel requires a multi-year deal, and the Brewers aren't comfortable going there? Perhaps the saw something in Kimbrel's performance last year that indicates regression? Like True Brew says, there are potentially multiple reasons other than "Bah, Brewers' ownership is CHEAP!" that this hasn't happened.
  22. Reading a lot lately saying that Montez Sweat is free falling due to some medical concerns. I know a lot of this crap is smoke, but if the Packers could grab him at #30, that is huge value.
  23. Exactly... get through the tough part, be on top of the Central... then we take the damn title, and make a playoff run. Hiura will be up at some point. So might Erceg if he keeps it up. Brewers deadline moves could very well be moving a Moustakas/Shaw/Aguilar type to make room for the kids. Right now CC has the pitching to take some of the pressure off the offense. They will score 5-6 runs every game to overcome the HR barrage his pitchers are no longer going to be giving up. I'd hate to rush Hiura or Erceg to the majors because there is no need, as there aren't any pitching woes. There ... fixed this post to reflect the optimism that is only allowed in this thread. There are plenty of other threads to share non-optimistic thoughts. Only sunshine and rainbows here. SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS!
  24. I have no idea if this guy has inside info or not, but he is literally a 16-year-old kid from Florida. I suppose he could be a minority owner's kid or something. He was the one who broke the Moose trade last summer. I give him about zero credibility, though. (Not that I don't appreciate Brew still passing along the rumor to us). But I've seen the guy throw a ton of stuff at the wall since the Moose trade and none of it has stuck. I think he got lucky one time with some insider info, however he came about it, but he looks like he's been fishing for attention since then. I don't deny the validity of the Moose info ... it's just odd that a breaking story would be funneled through a 16-year-old kid. I do follow him on Twitter, even though 98% of his posts are garbage.
