  1. Ditto, I think Eppler stays. I've read he and Stearns are close, anyway, so I don't think he's going to go in and complete tear down everything Eppler has done and the people he's put in place, at least not immediately. So I don't think that we'll see too many guys from the front office go. I'd be more wary of Stearns trying to bring Counsell over (don't think it would happen though). I don't know what happened in NY to take that 100 win team and turn it into what it was pre-deadline, but I'd clean out the field staff that's been running things and start fresh if I were Stearns. I hope you all have a great day.
  2. Maybe it's changed (this Tweet is nearly two years old), but there used to be a limit of one for the number of execs one team could take from another.
  3. The Athletic mentioned last night that "the Brewers are among multiple teams to express interest in Mark Canha". Link (subscription required) No more details, other than the Dodgers are also interested (along with a few other unmentioned teams). I wonder if they'd take Winker back in a deal, to even out the salary a little? Canha wouldn't move the needle too much, but that would be a pretty solid upgrade of a roster spot, going from Winker to Canha. Like the Braves swapping Pablo Sandoval for Eddie Rosario in 2021, nothing major, but a little upgrade.
  4. The Mets are covering Escobar's salary the rest of the season (minus the Major League minimum and the $500K buyout of next season's option). That'll likely be the case for any other moves the Mets make at the deadline, too. They'll either offer to cover any salary of traded players, or absorb bad contracts, in order to up the quality of what they get in return.
  5. There's some logic there, for sure. Nimmo's not going to be a CF for the full length of his contract. If the Mets could flip Baty for a long-term CF option, that's a deal that might make sense for them. They have Alex Ramirez in their system, but he may end up in RF.
  6. The Mets have recently developed a "prospect huggers" reputation. Their preference seems to be spend/outbid rather than trade assets. The Rangers feel like the best fit to me, given what they did last winter. Not much of an early read on what Chris Young will be like as a team-builder yet, but they really need to backup what they did last off-season.
  7. Yeah, I feel like shortstop/Adames is low on the priority list for potential changes this off-season. If an opportunity comes up to make a good move there, then do it, but as of right now it's pretty well settled. It's a good spot to be in. There's a lot of high-end talent at shortstop in MLB, but that high-end talent is expensive, probably too expensive here. And the drop off from the stars to the rest is pretty steep. Adames has his warts, but he's solid with some upside. The Brewers are in a better spot there than a lot of teams.
  8. Aren't the Twins covering Rogers' salary this year?
  9. Pending FAs traded during the season are not eligible to receive the qualifying offer. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/qualifying-offer
  10. Yeah, Gallo's got a track record, and I think a rebound outside of New York is a reasonable expectation. Andujar is not really a third base option anymore; he's played some left field, but he is a DH at this point (could be a good one, though). I think the Mets could be persuaded to move on from Smith, but is it worth taking a chance on him in a pennant chase?
  11. I've seen the Mets linked to Mancini (and Cruz), as they're getting little production from DH. The Red Sox are getting little production from first. I think both of those teams will be in on these guys. I'd also throw the Padres in there; they probably prefer an outfielder, but really just need any offense they can get. I'm not sure this makes for any major bidding wars, but I think the 1B/DH market will be fairly active.
  12. Yes, same issue, on Roku. Not an issue on my PC. I haven't found a fix (deleting the app and reinstalling didn't help). If I find a fix, I'll share.
  13. There's at least some thought that they may be planning on shifting LeMahieu to 1B next year, with Torres moving back to 2B, and then going hard at the FA SS market. So Voit could be available, if that's the plan.
  14. Cheating scandal. Lack of responsibility for it. Chip on his shoulder like the backlash from it wasn’t deserved. Insulted by a 6 year $120m offer from the Astros in the last month when has hit .257 with 41 HR in 1000 PAs since 2018. Guy just rubs me 100% the wrong way. Arcia may have been frustrating but at least you felt like he was a good teammate and tried hard. This guy seems like he’s quite unaware of who/what he is. Yeah, I feel the same way. I've never heard anything like him screaming at teammates or something like that, but there seems to be a lack of self awareness that's pretty off-putting when it comes to Correa. He'll get paid, but he's not going to reach Tatis/Lindor territory, and I think he should be prepared to get a lot less than what Seager and Story end up with if they all make it to free agency. Baez is in that lower tier as well, but he said something the other day that makes me think he's well aware of it.
  15. He reportedly does, or at least he's given lip service to it. They're also dumping a ton of his money into a previously pathetic analytics department: https://theathletic.com/2485969/2021/03/30/a-pitching-powerhouse-inside-how-the-mets-aim-to-revamp-pitching-development-with-their-own-lab/ Short-term success may be a bigger issue, depending on what things look like after the new CBA (luxury tax penalties?). Per MLBTR, Conforto, Stroman and Syndergaard are all free agents after the season, and they don't have the upper minors depth to cheaply replace those guys if they leave.
  16. We could be against Braves, Mets, etc for Turner as well. Does Ozuna re-signing take the Braves out of the running? Uncertainty about the DH still plays here, and without it it's Ozuna in left with Riley at third. The Nats still feel like a team to watch closely on Turner. I could also see the Dodgers do something wonky and trade for Kris Bryant since they've already blown past the threshold. Take a bigger hit this year, and then be free of any big money commitment at third after 2021.
  17. With recent rumors linking the Reds to Tampa's shortstop Willy Adames, could be a fun three-way deal that sends Hader to Tampa and nets Jonathan India in return. Not sure how keen the Reds would be on dealing him, especially to a division rival. India can also play second, but they're pretty loaded long-term there with Suarez and Moose (and I think Senzel can handle second as well). Keith Law had India at 88 in his top 100 he released the other day, and said he looked good at the off-site last year after a rough 2019. MLB didn't have him in the top 100, but did have him as the #9 third base prospect.
  18. Jeff Passan suggests we keep an eye on Tampa and San Diego as possible fits for Hader. https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/30796011/five-things-jeff-passan-hearing-frugal-10-actually-spend-bauer-market-another-all-star-trade-candidate If you don't have an ESPN subscription, Bleacher Report summarizes: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2928921-josh-hader-trade-rumors-padres-rays-interested-suitors-for-brewers-star-rp (apologies if this was already posted, but I didn't see it already elsewhere)
  19. I could've sworn I read that he was signed as the closer, but after re-reading some of the articles on the signing, I couldn't find anything that definitively said he was (more assumed/presumed). So def put the Jays back on the list of fits for Hader, though I think he ultimately stays. The division is wide open, even with Arenado joining. I also think Hader would be more valuable as a deadline trade piece if it comes to that.
  20. Blue Jays are an interesting fit, though they did sign Yates recently, and I believe it was to be the closer. Not that it really matters if the Jays are interested, but you could end up with two guys expecting to be "the guy" at the back end, and that could be an issue. The Mets wouldn't trade McNeil alone for Hader, let alone throw in a couple of prospects.
  21. I think they're just filling their bench and high minors depth. I just looked at their depth chart on MLB.com, and they really don't have much.
  22. I believe the Dodgers own that distinction. I think Arizona, Chicago White Sox, San Diego and Tampa all top Milwaukee-Nashville as well. Aside from maybe wrestling Indianapolis from the Pirates or some surprise reclass of a nearby team, Nashville is arguably the ideal landing spot.
  23. Yeah, that's wild. Most of the High A teams in the East/South were already spoken for, and I guess the Astros wanted both A teams regionalized in North Carolina. Would've made more sense to get the Pirates into the MWL (Lansing, with the A's staying in Beloit?) and the Marlins in Greensboro, though the Marlins were there previously, and I don't think the relationship ended all that well.
  24. Just noticed the Padres "replaced" the Brewers in San Antonio. Surprised they left the new digs in Amarillo, but San Antonio was their long-time AA affiliate, so I guess not a huge surprise by this.
  25. There was an interesting note in the BA article about Frederick, listing them and Trenton as fallback options in case one of the 120 rejects the invite. Frederick especially is in territory covered by all classifications and would make for an easy substitution. I guess they're kind of like the bubble "first team out" in the NCAA basketball tournament. Until last night, Ballpark Digest had Frederick as the likely Orioles AA affiliate.
