  1. I don't get the Houser hate when he was literally better than both Burnes and Peralta last year.
  2. These kinds of deals have been happening more and more recently and I have been waiting for the Brewers to get in on it. You love to see it.
  3. As much as I want Arenado as a Brewer, I'm going to actively force myself to not even think about the idea because there's not even a remote chance it happens. I'm going to use that hope to try and will him to a team other than the Cardinals.
  4. Try to look at each move individually - it's clear Stearns and co. move through the offseason fluidly and don't make moves that only work if a, b, and c also happen. Didi would be a great signing at shortstop, so if the price is right for both sides it will happen regardless of Urias or anyone. Stearns isn't going to turn down a good deal just because last week Urias was penciled in at SS - he's gonna get the best players he can at prices he deems fair and then figure it out later. If Didi signs and Urias is blocked at SS, who cares? He can play 3rd or be a utility guy or even season down at AAA as that was a longer term move. It's clear that's how Stearns goes about things - conventional wisdom says Grandal wouldn't be available for the Brewers last season but when it became clear that a one year fit was good for both sides, the move was made. I can guarantee you he wasn't the "plan" at the outset of the offseason.
  5. The prospects to get Arenado don't exist. Period. Brice Turang is not enough to start anything close to a deal for Arenado and he's likely our best prospect.
  6. From that list I really like Wheeler and wouldn't mind a return from either Lyles, Miley, or Fiers. Add Gio to the list too.
  7. It is quite a large difference and Grandal did it while playing every day basically. I love Pina....as a backup. I think he's a perfect backup which means having a great starter is very valuable cause you never feel like you're missing a beat. I don't trust Pina's OPS to hold up that well if he's starting every day and I also don't expect him to play as much as Yaz which means our backup gets more time and we don't even really have a great option there either.
  8. He doesn't need to be Knebel, he just needs to add another consistent option to the pen. The more guys like this the better and this could be a pretty solid move. Stearns loves to grab an arm at the end of camp and they've tended to work out OK.
  9. Been waiting for this thread. DO IT!
  10. Who is this guy, anyways?
  11. I'm hoping they just shorten it to Family Field and make the official change back to the ball and glove logo. That would make this sour taste in my mouth go away.
  12. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say probably not.
  13. There's a time to hoard draft picks and there's a time to try and win a World Series - it's not like you can trade other draft picks, so we still have a lot of them to hoard. Look, we were one game from a World Series last year - pick #40 wasn't going to contribute to that goal and it was a resource that comes from depth - we have three more years of draft picks so dealing one is pulling from depth.
  14. McCalvy reporting that Brewers have met with Ramos at the meetings.
  15. Trade Thames for a bag of balls and sing Moose. Jesus/Shaw at 1b. or Trade Thames and Jesus and sign Moose. Braun and Shaw at 1b. We could actually get something for Jesus. I'm not so sure why you're trading Aguilar to make room for Moose...
  16. A lot of people see this and say "Hiura could be just as good or better than Whit" and then dismiss the idea, but we aren't trying to trade Hiura FOR Whit. Lets just assume that Whit and Hiura have the same offensive season for the next two years. If we got Whit for a smaller package and then used Hiura for lets say Realmuto, then we would be a much better team. In this scenario, would you rather have Whit and Realmuto or Hiura and Pina? Long term, probably Hiura, but we were a game away from the WS last year. We could realistically win it NEXT YEAR. People might then cry "just sign Grandal and then you have Hiura and Grandal." But then we have less money to sign pitching. So in that scenario, would you rather have: Hiura, Grandal and Gio Gonzalez or Merrifield, Realmuto and Eovaldi? This is of course totally never going to happen, I'm just curious.
  17. I keep coming back to Whit! One of the writers on Fangraphs suggested that he thinks the main piece to get him would be someone on the back end of a top 100 list. Corey Ray? One of our 3 graduated young pitchers? Merrified is a good right handed bat at a position of need with tons of control - likes to steal bases and hit for average. Would allow us to move Hiura for a big time pitcher (Paxton, Kluber, maybe) or else someone like Realmuto and then spend the money saved on Moose and Schoop (non-tendered) on either a catcher or pitcher (whichever we didn't trade for.)
  18. How about the big time Grand slam by Schoop off of Bumgarner after he hit Braun? That was very awesome.
  19. Matt Carpenter is a lefty and typically leads off - Wouldn't be surprised if Jennings just faces him and we have Guerra stretched and warmed ready to get right in. Wild.
  20. Could this be a test run for a potential wild card game? Gives Counsell a bit of practice navigating our probable opponents lineup in a one game scenario. Of course, it's not even close to the same thing as rosters will be at 25 and pressure will be 100x higher in the WC game, but it at least gives Counsell and the pitching staff a chance to prepare early against our opponent and the batters we will be seeing. It's clear with our pitching staff that in a one game playoff we will do the "one out at a time" approach rather than the "give the ball to your ace" approach.
  21. I mean this in a non-snarky way, but why do you want to target Paxton if you think he'll decline soon? Pretty sure he meant the Mariners will decline soon. Bingo. Their best players are getting old, their farm is nonexistent, and the A's and Astros look really tough.
  22. Hard to predict the Mets at all. They had a really bad year, but with a new GM coming in, who knows what direction they go. That staff if healthy can compete with anyone so an aggressive and savvy GM could help them compete. I would try and get Paxton from the Mariners who will soon decline.
  23. McCalvy says a back flareup for Braun. Luckily Domingo has been hot so we will see if it carries over to a full start.
  24. A win tonight would feel good after a big letdown offensively last night. Losing two series in a row to the bottom half of the division wouldn't feel good especially if the Cardinals are getting hot. It would be nice to be able to have the luxury of setting our bullpen for the wild card game.
  25. I've been thinking all along that the key to staying in the division is to just win series - Brewers have won their last 6 and getting this win tonight would be huge. Not "must-win" by all means, but it certainly feels like it.
