I mean, it makes some sense from a chemistry standpoint. Cobb has brother-esque connections to both our Rodgerses, so that all adds up. But the idea that the move was a prerequisite to 12’s return seems silly—and to be clear, it’s a silly thing to ask for, though I can see 12 making this demand. Cobb wasn’t really all that special by the time he left years ago, and Amari Rodgers has a chance to be as good, if not better, than he was anyway. Maybe having Cobb in the locker room and at practice for a year or two makes Amari better, but maybe Cobb taking some of his snaps slows his development, too. Also, I am already sick of the “Last Dance” narrative, and this Cobb thing only fuels it. Rodgers has been a meme lord all off-season, and the media has been all too happy to oblige, since that’s what a very active subset of online fans like, apparently. But Rodgers’ end game has to be a documentary. He wants his own 30 for 30 so hard he can taste Jordan’s cigar smoke. Maybe he should win another ring or two before he merits the red carpet treatment. Until then, he can always hold Woodley’s handbag at her premieres.
