  1. Less than 30 minutes left, and prices are looking absolutely bonkers. What if San Diego calls and whips out the carte blanche for Hader? I mean, you can’t deal Hader now under any circumstances if you’re Stearns, but with the going rate for relievers today…
  2. We officially ended their hegemony. Thus ever to dynasties.
  3. The Crew has the book on Baez. This move is not concerning. In fact, I’m excited at the possibility of a NYM, LAD, CHW path to a title. That’d be a sweet outcome.
  4. Reports suggest the Mets are making J.D. Davis available (https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31849339/2021-mlb-trade-deadline-tracker-rumors-news-analysis-latest-buzz). To say he’d be a useful upgrade at 1B would be the understatement of the year. Sadly, there has to be almost no chance of making that work, since the Mets have to want immediate major league contributors, and neither us or the Mets would have any interest in aiding a fellow NL contender for a stretch run. But man, he’d be an awesome add. I’m going to be super bummed if he goes to the Cubs in exchange for Bryant.
  5. You wouldn’t have been able to tell this from Gute’s presser this morning. I suggest watching or listening to his remarks once they’re posted online to get the full impact, but his comments in response to the Cobb question had about as much genuine enthusiasm as a coerced message in a hostage situation. And he flat out said they wouldn’t have made the move except for Aaron Rodgers. My goodness. Guess we’re all just letting it hang out now. Any doubt I had about 12 being gone next year has just been erased.
  6. For those who prefer to read the transcript, here is the heart of what Rodgers said:
  7. Cui bono? Literally no one but Texas benefits from this “report.” I’m calling all of the shenanigans on this. Silly season is upon us.
  8. I mean, it makes some sense from a chemistry standpoint. Cobb has brother-esque connections to both our Rodgerses, so that all adds up. But the idea that the move was a prerequisite to 12’s return seems silly—and to be clear, it’s a silly thing to ask for, though I can see 12 making this demand. Cobb wasn’t really all that special by the time he left years ago, and Amari Rodgers has a chance to be as good, if not better, than he was anyway. Maybe having Cobb in the locker room and at practice for a year or two makes Amari better, but maybe Cobb taking some of his snaps slows his development, too. Also, I am already sick of the “Last Dance” narrative, and this Cobb thing only fuels it. Rodgers has been a meme lord all off-season, and the media has been all too happy to oblige, since that’s what a very active subset of online fans like, apparently. But Rodgers’ end game has to be a documentary. He wants his own 30 for 30 so hard he can taste Jordan’s cigar smoke. Maybe he should win another ring or two before he merits the red carpet treatment. Until then, he can always hold Woodley’s handbag at her premieres.
  9. Yeah, Cole Hammels didn’t think it was a rivalry, either. Look what happened to him; he can’t even get a contract. Moral of the story: don’t be Cole Hammels.
  10. RE Braun: Maybe, and just hear me out on this, just maybe this would be a really bad idea. On the one hand, who didn't love Braun's clutch performances? He has given us some of our greatest moments in franchise history. But what if Braun was an albatross? Ever since the purloined MVP of 2011, the Brewers have been good but never good enough to get over the hump. And now that he's gone, they seem to have constructed a contender for greatest team in franchise history, and we want to bring him back? What curse would we welcome back with open arms? [half blue] (Where are my Coleridge fans at?)
  11. I started to dream a dream today. I dare not even whisper it, for anything more than a whisper, and it would vanish. But it starts this Tuesday...
  12. That point will be when the team has another solid corner infielder on the roster. Should either be Shaw or Vogey getting healthy, or a trade. But I can't imagine they're waiting for anything else at this point.
  13. No runs, three straight Ks, just like you draw it up. [sarcasm]What’s everybody complaining about?[/sarcasm]
  14. I like Yelich’s approach when he’s not getting pitches. But he had some center cut fastballs he missed in that AB. There’s going to come a day when the Brewers are going to need Yelich to help them get to the promised land. It hasn’t been yet, but that day is coming.
  15. Best record and run differential in the National League!!!* *this side of the Rocky Mountains…
  16. Nice sweep. We’ve reached the part of the schedule where we need to make some hay, so that’s a good start!
  17. I’m glad the Crew is getting out of town before Soto figures it out. He’s too good to be swinging it like that.
  18. Well there goes Boxy’s era. May be time for bullpen reinforcements soon. Guys are going to wear out trying to support this offense.
