  1. i'm shocked they've had 15 opportunities at a sweep.
  2. idk Box has been making me a little nervous lately. I wouldn't mind Strickland or Cousins in that 7th inning role. ehh, Boxberger really just had the one blow up outing against philly. He's been really dependable otherwise.
  3. So, where does Strickland land in the bullpen hierarchy in the playoffs? Seems Hader, Williams, and Boxberger are pretty clearly the main 3 guys late in games, but Strickland has been pretty darn good.
  4. Imagine declining a $12.5m option on Kolten Wong.
  5. Yeah and then they'll ride that wave to another championship, beating the Brewers in the NLCS just like 2011. That 2011 Cardinals team seemed a lot better than their 2021 version. They’re on a nice winning streak right now, but just over a week ago they were basically a .500 team. I would be ecstatic if the only thing that stood between the Brewers and the World Series was this Cardinals team. Right. I'd 100% rather face the Cardinals in the NLCS, should the Brewers advance that far, than the Dodgers or the Giants.
  6. I almost would prefer the Cards get the second WC at this point. Obviously anything can happen in a 1 game playoff, but if the Dodgers wind up in that WC game, would prefer a team give them a fight. If Flaherty can get healthy in time or even Wainwright may give the Cards a puncher's chance.
  7. Yes. The most he did was just jump back and forth about 10 feet in front of third base. oof.
  8. I'm stuck with the Cubs broadcast. Did they show a replay on the Brewers feed of Wong there?
  9. Dang. Wong has to at least try to score on that run down.
  10. Escobar was such a solid pick up. Would love to re-sign him in the off season. The only better fit I could think of is Kris Bryant. Maybe Attanasio would pony up for both
  11. I think Wong is a pretty useful player. His key offensive skill being a good OBP also helps. It doesn't exactly help the offensive issues from last season since in aggregate he's roughly league average if not slightly below. As others have already chimed in, it will be interesting to see what they do with the rest of the position player group, mainly Hiura.
  12. Tin foil hat time: Burns is a spin rate darling. What do most spin rate darlings have in common? Allegations of foreign substance use for "grip". What did MLB "vow" to crack down on? Foreign substances used by pitchers. Brewers, know spin rate is a huge factor in Burnes' success, are willing to trade him.
  13. If there's no NL DH, it will be interesting to see if they keep him around. They should a little willingness to play him at 1b last year.
  14. I'm not all that optimistic that Arcia will repeat his solid offensive season over the course of a full schedule, but for $2m it's probably worth seeing if he can. Especially since Urias didn't show much in his limited time last season.
  15. This is fine. I'd expect a significant bounce back offensively. They also seem to have coached him up some on the defensive side.
  16. I'm generally against the idea of trading Hader, but given the Brewers likely will be reducing payroll going into next season and other teams probably looking to do the same... they may be to entice a team who is more interested in giving up talent than signing a big free agent contract into giving up a strong trade package for Hader.
  17. FWIW, Cots appears to have the payroll for 2019 and 2020 as roughly the same and by far the highest in club history. (obviously what was actually paid in 2020 was different than the projected $144mm in player benefits) https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/national-league-central/milwaukee-brewers/ I also think we are likely to see a pretty uninspiring offseason.
  18. Peralta, Houser, Lauer, and Suter all probably go into spring training with undefined roles, but a chance to end up in the rotation to start the season. We get worked up about defining a 5 man rotation, but the reality is they will probably all function in multi inning roles as both a starter and a reliever at times in 2021.
  19. Today's games have been very entertaining so far. Really the only dud so far was the Yankees/Indians game.
  20. Dang. The Devin Williams injury news is a huge blow. Like a sinking feeling. Probably going to need Houser or Knebel or Rasmussen to figure it out to have a shot here.
  21. I know it has only been 2 innings, but the Maeda trade for the Twins was such a steal. The Dodgers essentially gave him away (and $10mm!).
  22. I'd 100% start Suter. Hope he can give me 3. Also hope to get 3 from Williams/Hader if the game is close. That leaves 2-3 in the middle to figure out. Yardley, Claudio, Houser are all sorta match up types in these middle innings. Maybe Counsell can deploy them effectively in situations that favor them. Maybe also try to steal the last out of an inning with the likes of Black or Knebel. Freddy, if available is probably my first choice for a couple of middle innings. In an absolutely perfect world I would hope it could line up like this: 1 Suter 2 Suter 3 Suter 4 Freddy 5 Freddy 6 Yardley 7 Williams 8 Williams 9 Hader
  23. Also, Lamet and Clevinger are sorta unknowns on whether they're healthy or not. If they can't go then the Cards are a decent upset pick. 2020 would be the most Cardinals World Series run ever.
  24. Reds are +105. I like the Reds as well since the 3 SP they'll trot out are pretty tough and they finished the season pretty strong. The Braves have a nasty offense though, something the Reds really haven't had to face very often this year. I like the Indians over the Yankees too. Indians are +110. I could even envision a sweep with Bieber and Carrasco going in games 1 and 2. White sox are +110. I know they basically tanked after clinching, but the offense is strong and Giolito and Keuchel in the first 2 games is probably to their advantage. I kinda hate their pen, but I'll roll with them. Of course basically anything can happen in a 3 game series so I'd expect some surprising upsets. (Brewers over Dodgers please )
  25. I agree with others that Suter seems the most likely starter for game 1. Piece it together with the likes of Houser and Peralta and then you make your decision from there if you pitch Williams/Hader depending on the score. A lot of injury questions surrounding Vodelbach, Gamel, and Anderson and whether they'll be available for this series. Probably no magic formula for this position player group. Going to need to rely on the same guys who have been in the line up the last week or so and hope the pitching holds up to be competitive. Game 1 is key, because Woodruff will hopefully give the brewers a chance to win game 2. If they need to go to game 3 and Anderson isn't available then having to trot out Lindblom isn't exactly inspiring. Tough break to not have Burnes. Almost feels like 2008 when we lost Sheets at the very end of the season after basically relying on him and CC to drag the team to the playoffs.
