  1. I'd be open to trading for Baty. He hasn't done much in the bigs, but did have some prospect pedigree. I don't think Carlos Rodriguez was really all that mlb ready, brewers were just desperate last year and had to give him a shot. Not sure on the value for either of these guys at this point, but I don't hate it.
  2. Polanco is an interesting name to me. He isn't coming off his best offensive seasons, but put up plenty of good offensive seasons with Minnesota. I'm looking at just DRS here for his defensive numbers, but he has graded out about average defensively at 2b. Graded out very poorly at SS. Has very few innings at 3b, but maybe he could be average there? He's a switch hitter, but hits better as a lefty. I find him slightly more interesting than Moncado. I would imagine Gleybar Torres is well out of their price range unless they some how find a way to trade away Hoskin, but that just opens up another hole to fill.
  3. I am intrigued by Black’s bat. I think the ship has sailed on him getting any meaningful playing time at 3rd or 2nd. I agree with many previous posters that Black can/should slot into that Bauers role from last year. First base, DH, some spots in a corner outfield. we go through this almost every season where there isn’t a clear space for a player. It almost always works out. A guy doesn’t perform or he gets injured. Or they make a trade. There will be plate appearances for Black and he will have a big impact on how many he gets.
  4. We’ve seen the Brewers use a 6 man rotation with some frequency in recent seasons. With Woodruff coming back from a serious injury and DL Hall never putting up a starters workload before, I suspect the Brewers will use a 6 man rotation at times again this season. The depth behind the top 6 guys is basically Ashby plus a bunch of guys who have never pitched in the majors. I don’t think they should or need to trade a starter.
  5. The return on this trade was initially a bit of a shock to me. After sitting on it for a day, I have come around to it. We really did need another starting pitcher. We now have a more reasonable shot at running with a 6 man rotation : Freddy, Cortes, Myers, Civale, Woodruff, and Hall seem to be the top of that group. We essentially 60 elite, high leverage innings for 160 mid rotation innings with top of the rotation upside. We have seen the Brewers crank out quality relief pitching and the 40 man roster easily has 9 big league relievers on it right now and a couple other potential options there too. Then there are guys like Mis and Yoho who aren't on the 40 man yet who will likely factor in at some point, I fear that we are already maxed on out payroll though, We need to find someway to add a bat on the infield, That Adames hole is huge right now and I don't think its a hole they can fix with money,
  6. I'm been thinking about this a lot lately so I'll put pen to paper. I had to double check, but the 13 pitcher limit still applies to the post season roster. I lean toward rolling with 13 pitchers because our starters aren't likely to go deep and we dont have great position player depth. C: Contreras, Sanchez, Haase 1b: Hoskins, Bauers 2b: turang SS: Adames: 3b: Ortiz Inf: Monasterio OF: Chourio, Mitchell, Frelick, Perkins Nothing really controversial here. I like Haase over Black because Sanchez is more useful as a PH/DH than a back up catcher once it gets to the post season. SP: Freddy, Rea, Myers RP: Williams, Megill, Hudson, Payamps, Koenig I see these guys as locks Hall, Misiorowski, Ashby, Parades, Montas. Truthfully not confident about this group as well. Could be a lot of mixing and matching depending on who is healthy come October. I'm hoping to see Yoho and Mis in September, but it will be tough to get them both on the active roster. I could see them making decisions to cut ties with Wilson and Ross midway through September to get all of Hall, Parades, Yoho, and Mis on the active roster.
  7. Sounds like Bryan Hudson’s return is imminent since he’s already back with the team… barring another phantom IL move… do we see DL Hall optioned to make space for Hudson? I don’t even think he would burn an option since we could call him back up 9/1 and it will be fewer than 20 days. I think we’d all be interested in seeing Mis and/or Yoho at some point this season too. This is a good reminder of how much I hate the new September roster restrictions.
  8. It looks like they got the call correct. It definitely is a bad break though. a) the back swing contact didn't cause the ball to get by the catcher b) the bat making contact with the catcher didn't benefit any of the 3 runners. they all would have easily advanced without the contact c) the catcher lunged forward to field the ball in the dirt and contributed to the contact with the back swing. In the true spirit of the rule, there was no interference with the catchers ability to make the play. Side note... I kinda hate when guys let go of the bat with their top hand.
  9. Are they truly trying to win? They cut payroll by like 15%. Then they replaced Burnes and Woodruff with a guy who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2021 and 2 relievers. The Brewers may very well stay in contention all year and even make the playoffs, I hope they do. I just hope they do it while letting the young guys play.
  10. thank you. this is the pertinent video to show to prove that the slide yesterday was not his natural sliding motion. not the 2 other videos posted in this thread. ultimately the umps admitted they blew the call. it happens. however that inning cascaded on uribe between the ump telling him he blew the call on the judge walk to begin with, the missed call on the interference, and then getting squeezed on strike 3. he recorded 5 outs (judge twice) and only got credited for 2. it sucks, move onto the next one,
  11. I know the Brewers are off to a nice start this season, but most of us thought this was probably a .500 team or worse. I still think is a transition season where it's more important to develop our young players at the big league level rather than chasing marginally production by replacing Chourio with someone else. Let the kid learn at the big league level and keep trotting him out there 5-6 games per week.
  12. Goes to show how expectations factor into how fun things are. Basically the same record as last year at the same point in the season but the vibes around this fanbase are way higher than I remember last years being.
  13. I’m looking forward to this one. Some hype around this series nationally due to the Jackson’s. (well as much hype as April baseball can drum up). Hopefully ours outshines theirs.
  14. Man, I don't know if I've ever seen a first baseman in the MLB whiff on a throw like that.
  15. I love that about half of the Brewers position players are a threat to steal bases/take extra bases. (hitting homer would be fun too, but if we can't have that, stolen bases are at least a plus)
  16. Interesting to see Peguero go 2 full IP. He only recorded 6 outs 2 times last season. I wonder what his role will be out of the pen this season. Obviously we saw Megill get the 7th yesterday when that was Peguero's main role for much of last season,
  17. this is great and what I was expecting. thank you. i'll keep playing around with it to see if I can find my way here too,
  18. I was hoping to filter out just the called strikes
  19. I'm playing around on baseball savant and cant find the called strike chart. anyone know where to find it? brooks baseball isn't loading for me.
  20. I’m a little surprised he’s got Chourio in the leadoff spot. Kinda thought they would “ease” him in and have him batting 7-9 somewhere. But heck ya, let’s get after it from day 1.
  21. Most of position players at the fringe of the roster have options except Haase and Bauers. Arroyo too, but he's a NRI. The Brewers will likely try to preserve depth as much as possible. Something that got brought up in the Sanchez thread that I wasn't aware of was that Haase is on a split major/minor deal. He'd have to clear waivers to go to the minors, but a little less of a financial commitment if he ends up in AAA to start the year. The pitching staff has a little less flexibility than we've seen in past years, but there are enough guys with options to run the bullpen shuttle squad as needed.
  22. I hadn't seen that it's a split deal. Looks like he'd still need to clear waivers to get sent down, but there's some financial flexibility there. Hearing this, I think it's less likely they keep all 3 on the big league roster coming out of spring (assuming all 3 are healthy)
  23. Admittedly this isn't super exciting, but he's probably a better option than Haase. As other posters have pointed out, Haase doesn't have any options remaining and he got a $1m big league deal. My guess is they roll out of camp with 3 catchers assuming all 3 are healthy and then put off making that decision as long as possible. Taking it a step further, unless he just absolutely sucks, Bauers probably makes the opening day roster too since he is also out of options and the rest of the 40 man roster guys like Owen Miller and Andruw Monsterio still have at least an option left. Would make for a super clunky roster on opening day to carry 3 catchers, 2 first basemen, and likely 5 outfielders. So probably wouldn't be able to keep Bauers and Haase for long if the team is healthy coming out of spring training. I'm not upset that they're adding to the options at DH, but it kinda would've been nice to just run out the young guys as much as possible to see what we really have in Frelick, Mitchell, Weimer, and to a lesser extent Perkins. All of those guys have options so they probably don't all make the opening day roster. I do hope Chourio starts from day 1.
  24. Losing Burnes and Woodruff in one offseason is rough. I would have preferred to ride out the year with Burnes and let him leave in free agency. I don't know anything about the players we got in return other than the 10 minutes I just spent reading up on them. Ortiz is most likely a better bet to be a long term solution at SS than Turang. Hall seems like he could stick in the bullpen and at the very least be a decent member of the shuttle squad which we need since a lot of our pen isn't going to have options. Bummer on Ethan Small. What a mess that turned out to be. I'm hoping they add some SP options here. I already wasn't too excited about Rea and Ross being the likely 4th and 5th guys in the rotation to start the year.
  25. lol that was completely painless. will be interesting to see if counsell presses his luck and runs him out to face schwarber to start next inning
