  1. If he's available on a 1 year deal I think he still makes sense for the Brewers. I originally thought we was closer to the Morton, Lynn, Sanchez, Happ type free agent signing, but as it goes on he's probably closer to the Harvey, Sabathia, Holland, Cahill end of things.
  2. I'm not opposed to signing Keuchel, but at some point you just have to let the young guys pitch. You never know how long the young guys will be effective, so might as well use those useful innings that Woodruff, Burnes, and Peralta will provide while they have league minimum salaries.
  3. Who gets the DFA? I think Albers is gone. Probably suter to 60 day DL is the initial move to make space for Moustakas.
  4. Ya I’m not sold on this being the end of Thames either. I see Moustakas taking Spangenbergs roster spot to start the year. Saladino and Spangenberg get optioned. If they roll with 4 man bench it’s thames, gamel, Pérez, and Piña. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Them hang onto Kratz for as long as possible before having to DFA him.
  5. Boras clients in green. He's shown a willingness to wait out the market with his clients so it's not a huge surprise his clients make up about half of this list. I updated your list with my own feelings on these guys. James Shields (borderline) Bryce Harper Multi year Manny Machado Multi year Adam Jones (Borderline) Ervin Santana (coming off injury) Dallas Keuchel multi year Craig Kimbrel Multi year Matt Wieters (minor league deal) Denard Span (borderline) Gio Gonzalez Carlos Gonzalez (borderline) Ryan Madson (Borderline, I know he was solid in the postseason, but his season totals were uninspiring and he's 38 yo) Josh Harrison (borderline) Evan Gattis (minor league deal) Mike Moustakas Jose Iglesias Tony Sipp Carlos Gomez (minor league deal) Martin Maldonado Marwin Gonzalez Multi year Adam Warren Cameron Maybin (minor league deal) Derek Dietrich (borderline) Clay Buchholz Edwin Jackson (minor league deal) Other borderline types I saw on the FA list are: Dan Jennings Bud Norris
  6. CHL already laid this all out. They aren't going to be able to add the amount of talent to this team by renouncing their free agents. If they don't keep or add enough talent to be finals contenders Giannis isn't going to sign that super max. Getting Giannis to sign that super max is really the only thing that matters and if he decides to leave this team is back to square one regardless.
  7. I'd be shocked if Moustakas gets multiple guaranteed years.
  8. The more I read up on Middleton from the national media it feels like he definitely get a max deal. So if he's going to get max offers from other teams, there's really no reason imo for the Bucks to try and negotiate a minimal savings on his deal. Just offer him the max and I'm pretty sure he'll stay because he's got a good situation and financial incentive to stay. The Bucks obviously really value Middleton. He and Giannis were the two players to meet with Bud before the hire. They view him as a franchise cornerstone.
  9. I would love it if the Brewers signed Kimbrel and would also prefer him to Keuchel. I can't remember if I posted this here or not, but I posted this on another brewers forum so I'll recycle it here:
  10. That's good news for the Brewers and maybe good news for Houser. He will definitely get big league innings this season and gets to stay on the 40 man without potentially bouncing around on the waiver wire like Oliver Drake.
  11. I know, right? I'd be shocked if he signs for less than 8 years. I still would predict 10 years though.
  12. That post basically needs to be shouted from the rooftops and then pinned.
  13. I think you're a little light on Midd and a little heavy on Bled. I'm not sure they can sign Lopez to that much without dumping Ersan or Snell. If I understand bird rights correctly, they will have them for Mirotic so they could theoretically re-sign him. Honestly, I don't care who they keep and what they pay them. The Bucks just need to get Giannis to sign that super max next summer.
  14. The virtue signalling on this deal on twitter in mind numbing. I think this is a smart acquisition for the Marlins. I know it's a NRI, but he will make the team. Granderson doesn't have a role on a contending team until at least August and more likely September when rosters expand. As you guys noted above, he could be a strong mentor for some of the young players in Miami before being traded this summer.
  15. What incentive would they have to extend Chacin right now? He was very good last year, but he's under contract for next season. Based on how the past two off seasons have gone, I'm not sure he'd get two guaranteed years as a free agent next season. Probably makes more sense for the Brewers to let this season play out and if he's good again try to re-sign him as a free agent. I just don't think the risk is worth it for them at this point.
  16. I have two thoughts on this: 1) The Brewers didn't really want Miley back if he only signed for $4.5m guaranteed. This is consistent with Haudricourt's tweet yesterday stating he has heard they weren't interested in re-signing him. 2) The Astros signing Miley is enough proof for me that the Brewers should have been interested in bringing him back.
  17. Well then I guess its a good thing the Brewers excel at placing their defenders where the ball is put in play. It would seem the Astros are as well since they rank just as highly in defensive efficiency as the Brewers. He still had somewhat drastic year to year fluctuations in RA/9 and ERA.
  18. I'm torn on Keuchel. His actual RA/9 fluctuates year to year based mostly on babip which is somewhat to be expected when so many balls are hit in play, especially on the ground. FIP has been very consistent the past 3 years and DRA- has been mostly consistent as well for the past 3 years. He's a good starter and would probably be the Brewers best starter in 2019 based on FIP/DRA, but the fluctuations in RA/9 do scare me a little.
  19. Brewers 86 Cardinals 86 Cubs 86 Pirates 81 Reds 81
  20. I think the Pirates are going to be pretty crummy in 2019... ehh, I like their pitching staff. They're also pretty deep in decent position players. Outside of Marte no one is really all star caliber, but if a couple of those guys have good seasons I can see them being playoff contenders.
  21. Once they signed Grandal to upgrade at catcher it felt inevitable that they wouldn't be making any major addition at second base. It was always the best plan to upgrade at C instead of 2b if there was only room in the budget for one upgrade.
  22. I'd prefer they don't get Realmuto. I don't think the Reds are a real playoff contender, but they could be ~.500 and there are some scenarios in which they do make the playoffs. Was nice to have at least one whipping boy in the division, but it looks like that wont be the case in 2019.
  23. I agree with the posters here. Makes sense from both sides. I saw a lot of virtue signaling on twitter last night when the news broke. Both sides gave something up in order to work out this contract. Merrifield hasn't earned the right of free agency so in order to get a guaranteed contract he had to take a discount.
  24. Regarding the Brewers as a fit or creating content around a potential mystery team in general? They spent an entire weekend talking about mystery teams on MLB Network Radio. So mlbTR is no different on that front. As far as the Brewers... he's a clear upgrade at either ss or 3b and the Brewers appear to be contenders in 2019. So Machado obviously makes sense from that aspect. The chances of the Brewers signing Machado are slim due to probably payroll constraints.
  25. If I had to guess, I'd guess no acquisition is made between now and the On Desk event. They added Grandal to the attendee list and he was a major signing this month.
