  1. Lindblom has been awful this year and looks to be another 2020 journeyman mistake by Stearns. In 7 starts: 30.2 IPs - 22 ERs - a whopping 6 HRs allowed - 32 hits allowed - walked 15 - 6.46 ERA. He is scheduled to make a little over $3M for the next two years. Maybe a move to the pen might help, but who would be the 5th starter? CC just doesn't have many good options anywhere this year.
  2. The way the current Brewer team is set up they won't even think of signing Bauer. When Smoak is your 1B, Sogard is your 3B, you need help desperately at the corners. Pitching can always use an upgrade, but Stearns won't have the money to throw at Bauer and still upgrade all the holes on offense.
  3. I guess this is one of those "what do you lose" type trades. None of the three reported pitchers were in the Phils top 40 prospects and there's very, very little chance any of them make it to the big leagues. However, there are the once-in-a-blue-moon exceptions like Peralta. Even if one of them defies the odds and does make it, you are looking at 2024.
  4. As stated many times on this blog, Andujar has been horrible since his only good year in 2018. He has to prove he is anywhere close to a MLB player again before being part of a big deal. Frazier is another journeyman type with bad defense. Dime a dozen type player. Gil hasn't even seen AA yet, so he is far from MLB ready. Schmidt isn't close either. The Brewers could easily do better.
  5. Why in the world would you want Gyorko at 2B? With Arcia and Urias plus Matheny/Sogard off the bench, they have 2B covered. Dominguez's eta is at least 2024 and who knows what things will be like that far away. Schmidt has only thrown 19 innings at AA, so he is not there until 2023. Garcia got crushed in AAA last year and is iffy at best for next year. Frazier .259/.320 is another Avi Garcia at best. I think your package is too light for Hader and Hiura to be moved.
  6. Catcher and any of the OF spots are actually covered rather well for the Brewers in the minors. Feliciano is a good catching prospect and there are a few others in the minors that have some promising futures. As for the OF prospects they are further away as most are in the lower levels. First base and third base are the real problems but I think those can easily be solved in free agency. Justin Turner is a FA this off season and he could be a target for either 1B or 3B though he is on the older side. Profar is also a free agent this off season he could be someone to target for 3B. If a Hader trade happens we should see two really good prospects added to the team. Profar is just more of the same crap Stearns signed this year. .206/.305 this year. Career .232/.315. Besides Broxton, Taylor, and Ray they don't have an OF for at least 2-3 more years. 1B and 3B will not be easily solved in FA. Turner MAY be available, but will be on many teams' list. 1B is a big problem too.
  7. Davies is a solid starter who is in a ball park that helps him a great deal. He is a contact pitcher and the bigger parks in the N.L. West will play more to his style than the hitters park in Milwaukee.
  8. While I concur that Sogard phase 2 has been another failure in the great 2020 journeyman experiment, both Urias and Mathias bat right. Peterson is a lefty, but his past history suggests that he would be worse than Sogard. If CC wants to continue the lefty vs righty starter project, there is nothing else besides Sogard.
  9. No thanks. Vaughn has played one year and is in A ball (.252/.349) and way too far away to help any time soon. Crochet has not yet thrown a ball professionally. The Crew needs immediate help if they trade Hader.
  10. This is no the first time that Cubs/Yankees deal has been brought up as a comp for Hader, and it likely won't be the last. But even though Chapman went to the Cubs, pitched great, and likely won them the World Series, that deal continues to be widely panned as a terrible overpay. That was a case of a stacked team desperately needing a closer dealing with another typically stacked team that was having a down season. It was a perfect storm scenario that likely won't be repeated anytime soon. Basically, if you are holding out for a Torres-type prospect, get used to seeing Hader on this team, because he isn't going anywhere. Not that there's anything wrong with that. With all the time we have before Hader is a free agent there is no reason to trade him unless we are getting a potential star or two in the deal. Bullpens are more important than ever before and Hader is the best in the game. Unless we are getting Gavin Lux or someone of that caliber as the headliner we will just keep the best relief pitcher in baseball. If Hader is to be traded it must be for quality over quantity. We should have no interest in a 3 or 4 for 1 deal where the guys we get back are mediocre talents. A team like the Dodgers who is desperate to win and can easily replace Lux makes a ton of sense and I don't see Stearns making a deal of this magnitude without getting a player like that in return. If they trade Hader I think it will be for a position certain type player. Right now Huira and Urias are at 2B. The Crew desperately needs a 3B and 1B who can hit with power. There is nobody in their system who is anywhere close to the big leagues at those positions. I think IF Hader is traded, Stearns goes for a 3B and a hard throwing RP on his way up.
  11. I would love this. He always has reminded me of Yelich of the Marlins. I have no expectation of him becoming Yelich of the Brewers, but think he could be a very good fit in Milwaukee without the spotlight of the Boston media. I think Benintendi is performing pretty close to Yelich, this year. Yelich: .189/.318 - 27 Ks in 88 PAs. Benintendi: .103/.314 - 17Ks n 52 ABs. I can't imagine why Council would want another whiff king who can't get on base in the outfield. Gamel has been filling that bill for a while now.
  12. I don't think you can blame Manfred here. I don't know what the union agreed to concerning enforcement of policies. However the risk of penalty shouldn't be the driving force behind what the players do in their off time anyway. The risk of the entire SEASON should be their primary concern when planning activities away from the ball park. Obviously some players don't take it seriously and if they choose to do anything risky, that's on them alone.
  13. Another interesting point, once the season is underway will teams just stop testing players. Would certainly be detrimental if 3-4 players on the Astros, for example, tested positive and had to quarantine/sit out as the playoffs were starting . I read they'll be tested every other day, and if they're positive they will have to sit out. Some team is going to have an outbreak and will have to play for a couple of weeks with minor leaguers filling in for starters. As to "severe illness," from the numbers that are out there, it is very unlikely for a young, healthy person to get "severely ill" from COVID. It happens, but it's a fraction of a percent. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be cautious, but they're a bunch of young, healthy people with constant medical screening. They are at low risk of "severe illness" or death from COVID. The biggest problem is passing the virus to others. They are low risk for themselves, but they can and do carry the virus to others. Should a player with a pregnant wife, high risk child, caring for a parent take the chance of infecting them? Tough choices that the will have to make.
  14. Yelich Cain Garcia Huira Urias Narvaez Woodruff Hader Rasmussen Burnes Peralta Knebel Lauer Ashby Perdomo
  15. Gun related deaths in the USA last year were 15,300 - 38,800 deaths related to auto accidents - about 34,000 died of the flu in 2019. It's estimated about 2.6 million people die each year from all causes. Roughly 215,00 per month. A large portion is age related.
  16. Remember the DH hurts weaker pitching staffs. The Brewers are one of the weaker starting staffs and the pen is questionable right now. I think it hurts more than helps the Crew because they had the makings of a very good bench and have a lot of versatility. The DH takes away most of the double moves thus making the bench less relevant.
  17. Have you ever been in Chicago in November? With the wind blowing it's COLD. Colorado gets in the 20's at night in November. Daytime average is in the mid 40's. Snow is always possible in November in Denver. Conditions would more likely than not, be near brutal.

  19. I can't see the Pirates even thinking about it unless they are trying to dump Archer outright. Nelson strikes out a lot of people, but he walks almost 5 per 9 IPs too. 4.05 ERA and 1.3 WHIP average in the minors. He really struggled at AAA. Certainly not the lead piece in the deal. Vizcaino just reached high A and has stunk at every level he's pitched at. He hasn't had an ERA under 4.35 at any level. Duran is just starting out and looks promising, but is 4-5 years away. Archer hasn't been all that great with the Pirates, but your package would amount to a salary dump. If the Yankees are desperate I'd push for Andujar and Nelson/Duran if I was the Pirates' GM.
  20. Holy crap did Burnes come a long way since last year! IF he can live up to his potential it would give the Crew two TOR guys and a great shot at the post season. I'm still going to be cautious and see if the hype is warrented this year, but dreaming of what could be is awesome.
  21. Braun has a shoulder injury and is unable to throw. If he opens on the DL, Morrison will certainly make the club. Further, they're not going release Smoak and eat a $5 million dollar contract at the end of ST, its just not something the organization does. Morrison is a mediocre slugger who doesn't really fit the profile of the players the Brewers have, that being said at some point if he maintains a hot bat in ST .333/.400/.667, you'd have to imagine he will earn his way onto the roster as the 26th man to start the year. Plus the Brewers have had a track record of keeping a slugging first baseman as a bench player after a huge spring: Ji-Man Choi, Jesus Aguilar for example I just don't see Morrison making the 26-man roster unless Gamel goes to AAA and he becomes the 4th OF. Morrison has said he does not want to be the 26th man because he needs more ABs to be effective. I believe if CC tells him that's going to be his role, he'll opt out and go elsewhere.
  22. I would rather not give up Peralta or take on Seager's salary. At this time neither makes any sense. Now if Seattle would take a Lutz-Ray-Erceg type pkg. and pay down 1/2 Seager's salary, I'd be fine with the move. It won't happen, but Seattle may get desperate to move him towards the deadline and who knows?
  23. He doesn't need a big year at all. He just needs to show some sort of growth. He already had a big year in 2018 but it didn't really show the skill growth you wanted to see. I would gladly take a .750 OPS but with a 25% strike out rate from Ray, that would mean so much more to me than a .820+ OPS with a 31% K rate. Ray has to show he can hit AAA pitching this year or become a non-40 man roster candidate. His "big" year he still only hit .239 and whiffed 31% of the time and that was in AA. He stunk last year in AAA (.188/.261 - nearly 40% whiff rate). He got injured, but his lack of contact is alarming. He looked absolutely lost at the plate in spring training games.
  24. Ray is whiffing his way out of prospect status.
  25. IMO Woodruff will be the opening day starter. CC will adjust accordingly unless Woody is working on something that precludes him from throwing on the 26th.
