  1. I'd be supremely happy with that pkg.... I'd even take Rios-Koralek-McKinstry for Hader.
  2. I think you're wrong about no FAs above $3M and trading for prospects. MA knows the Central is up for grabs this year. He needs MLB talent to fill huge holes. If Hader is traded I believe it will be for an MLB or MLB ready 1B or 3B. Then a lower cost ($5-8M) FA for the other spot. That would still reduce the payroll and hopefully keep the Crew competitive for the division title. You're right about a lot of "ifs" and no one knows until it happens. Time will tell.
  3. I think you are overlooking the fact that he'll be 35 in April and essentially hasn't played since the end of 2019 when he wasn't very good. It's a big stretch to think he returns close to his 2018 form. Sure he had a lot of minor aches and pains in 2019, but what guarantee is there that he won't incur those same kind of aches and pains at 35? Cain is one of many huge question marks on this team. Cains 2019 numbers would have been 2nd best on the entire team in 2020.
  4. Does Chavis even play 3B? I thought he was a 1B who could be an emergency fill in at 2B.
  5. I wonder if the Crew could get Wendle from the Rays? The Rays have an abundance of corner infielders, but look to need OFs or pitching. Wendle appears to play a good 3B and is controllable for 3 years. They also have Nate Lowe at 1B who may be a target. Just throwing another possibility out there.
  6. So you don't believe the Brewers and many, many more teams are going to CUT payroll? You want to add million upon millions of dollars. I think your chance of this happening are somewhere between zero and the proverbial snowball's chance in hell.
  7. I'm not crazy about seeking Hader trade ideas, and I think uncertainty at the back end of the bullpen can undo a team's confidence in a hurry, but this idea makes some sense to me. I'd guess that at least one of the prospects needs to be pretty consequential. IF the Brewers are truly cutting payroll, how does this make sense? 2021 the Brewers are adding at least $6-7M (Kiermaier & Snell minus Hader & Garcia)and over $25M in 2022. Plus they still have monsterous holes at 1B and 3B and their major trade chip is now gone.
  8. I like Knebel too, but IF the Brewers are seriously looking at cutting payroll, I think Knebel's estimated $5.1M salary is prohibitive. Same with Gamel, Claudio, and Pina. With glaring holes at 1B and 3B and zero internal options, there just doesn't seem to be the money to keep those guys and fill the holes.
  9. Garcia only DH'd 3 times because Cain opted out. Braun was awful as the DH (.180/.239) in 16 games. Morrison hit .179 in 6 games. Smoak in 4 games hit .ooo. Hiura hit .225 in 10 games. Yelich .259 in 7 games. Vogelbach did great as the DH and should have the job IF, I say IF MLB finally makes a decision.
  10. IF Kopech is ready to go it would be a pretty decent trade for the Crew. Kopech looked really good before the arm surgery. However he hasn't played in two years since he took 2020 off to recover. If he is right, that would give the Crew three potential top of the rotation type guys. Kopech would be the headliner of the trade. I think the jury is still out on Vaughn. With only one year to go by, he hasn't shown any power (6 HRs total) and only hit .253 at A level and .252 at high A ball. He is a high ranking prospect, but he needs to show better to deserve that high ranking.
  11. So you have the Brewers losing Hader, Turang, and Houser PLUS adding $41M to the payroll?
  12. Thanks for the link! I love the Dodger trade. I believe it is the best by a long ways toward making the Crew competitive right now.
  13. This might be the end of Cano. At 38 and declining quickly, he is all but washed-up. I'm sure the Mets are smiling because they save $23M.
  14. I believe you are absolutely correct, but I hope we are both wrong. There is a lot of good talent available that could help the pathetic offense. And at reduced asking prices.
  15. I have liked Mercer for a while too. Good vet who can play an adequate SS and 2B. Another guy I like for a bench spot (if Stearns lets Arcia go) is Ehire Adrianza. Switch hitter who can play all the IF positions. I would rather go with a T. Walker at 2/$14M and forget Fiers and Kintzler though. I think Walker could bring more than Fiers. No need to spend money on the pen, depending on what happens with Hader. I think Vogelbach offers as much or more than Thames.
  16. 5'11" - 160#s --- Slender build, better than avg. foot speed ---- Bats L/Throws R ---- SS-P in H.S. good glove at SS with a great arm ---- His fastball was around 90-91 mph in high school w/slider --- considered a very good college prospect who has to fill in and get stronger to advance to pros
  17. I wanted them to sign him a couple years ago too. He’s exactly the type of bat they need. I wonder if Avisail Garcia could learn first base and spend some time between first and the outfield instead of Brantley? Garcia is 6’4 and could probably transition to first pretty easily. A top of the order of Brantley, Cain, Yelich, and Hiura would be pretty nice. That would still give us a light hitting 1B, which is just a bog problem for this team. not to mention a $17M price tag that Stearns won't pay and still a black hole at 3B.
  18. The Brewer infield is already one of the worst defensive infields in the majors. Why would they make it worse? Why not just get a 1B and leave Yelich alone.
  19. Yelich is an adequate OF with good closing speed, and like adambr2 stated; it's not like the Crew has a wealth of OF options ready to go. Moving Yelich is robbing Peter to pay Paul. If Stearns isn't going to make a move to fill the hole at 1B, I think the best change of a player position would be Hiura to 1B.
  20. The award doesn't mean much in and of itself. But for a team that values defense and versatility, it looks like the Brewers traded away a young home grown player who fits that bill, AND can hit a little bit. I agree, the award has become almost meaningless. Remember Ozuna won a gold glove in 2017 and by any stretch of the imagination he is and was a well below average defender.
  21. Lamb would be a last resort-because-there -is-no-one-else guy. He has really sucked the last three years and would be on a one year deal at best. Shades of the journeyman 2020 season. If Stearns is going to go with a stop-gap fix at 3B I'd like to see A. Cabrera. He'd get about the same type money on a one year deal as Lamb and he's a better all around player.
  22. I'm pretty confident you just made all of that up. Sad to say, but it's true! Yup. According to Baseball Ref. he played with the mighty Lightning Sloths in 2020. Besides his horrible BA, he also struck out 24 times in his 98 PAs. Time to cut this guy loose.
  23. I wouldn't mind Santana who could at least fill a huge hole at 1B even if it isn't a long term fix. However I wouldn't touch Ray. He walks a ton of guys (even if you ignore 2020) and he allows more hard hit balls than all but a very few SPs. Neither of those things plays well in Milwaukee.
  24. I could see Cron as a last resort type guy if Stearns fails in the trade market. He's no better than Gyorko and not as good with the glove.
