  1. Exactly the kind of player the crew needs more of. As you say high contact, good plate discipline, make him a rare bird in today’s game, and with his good defense at short, a steal at #20 in the draft. Good chance to move up rather quickly too.
  2. I think it’s more how ridiculously good the dodgers are at hitting good pitching. This team could go down as top 5 all time if they win it all. Brewers better get a whole lot better before October. The Dodgers have a good team. We get it. Move on. Move on? You move on. Nothing wrong with my COMMENT. Did you watch that half inning? If you did then I would have thought you’d kinda been in awe of what you just saw the dodgers do off the best closer in the game today, instead of feeling the need to police another post of mine. But go ahead and continue to tell me to stop wanting the crew to “change”their team to get better, and just relax and enjoy the team we have.
  3. No way is Stearns giving up the prospects that it would take to land Rendon. He didn’t for Machado last year. Imo, it will be higher salaried non-elite Quality bats/arms closer to the deadline, so as not to give up the Turang’s and Ashby’s And Rasmussen’s of the farm.
  4. Looking at the pipeline grades, a little taken aback by their overall 45 grade. FB > 70. SL > 55 CH > 45 Control > 50 Overall > 45 Seems ridiculously low. With better than average control of 3 pitches, would of thought 50/55 as a min.

  6. 5 IP 3 H 1 R 3 BB 7 Ks Run unearned/passed ball 97 pitches. Hoping next start on 4 days rest.
  7. I don't think anyone would expect them to do otherwise. He's got time left on his rehab assignment, and options left if he isn't hitting at the end of it. They have time to let Hiura continue to figure out things at the ML level, while allowing Shaw time to figure things out in a less pressure-packed situation. It makes all the sense in the world to let things play out for awhile. I think/hope the poster that speculated that Shaw was pulled from the game was simply joking. Doesn’t look like he was joking, Shaw not in the lineup for the missions tonight.
  8. I’ve softened my stance, and believe he’ll use this as motivation to pitch better in AAA and be up with the big club before the middle of June. We’ll know by then who needs to go to the pen. I also believe, outside of injury to one the starters, that we’ll know Nelson will be closer to returning when he’s pitched on 4 days rest instead of the 5 that he’s on now. Can’t imagine they wouldn’t see how his arm recovers to the shorter rest time before promoting him to MKE.
  9. Imo, Rendon’s value will be similar to Machado’s at Last year’s deadline, he’s a much much better player than moose. Rendon > Turang & Ashby This is probably pretty close to what it would take, would you do it?
  10. I do think they should put Hiura back in AAA for 3 weeks, and then bring him back and play him. He needs at bats vs major league arms. Outside of yesterday’s throw, his defense has been excellent. Shaw needs to stay down until he’s mashing, it’s got to just be a matter of time but he will hit again, but we have 5-7 weeks before Stearns does his deadline deals. Saladino is a potential player in all this, at least until the deadline.
  11. You continue to pound this in every thread on this site. There is no money tree. We can't buy all the pieces you say we need. You need to accept that, if not, it's going to be a long, disappointing summer for you. Geez. Mark Attanasio Already stated holding money back for trade deadline moves. If Smoak 3-5 mil depending on when. Already paying Shaw/if not Shaw then another bat > 5 mil Pitcher > 4 mil. Bench bat > 2 mil. 3 bats and a pitcher > 15 mil. 2 bats and a pitcher > 10 mil. These are max figures, probably be less and no Kimbrel. Money Tree not needed.
  12. Just curious, how many 800 ops guys do you think we need? Yelich Braun Grandal Moose are all there Hiura Thames Gamel are 750 and up range. Arcia is looking improved and he's the 8th hitter. There are 120 players (100ab) in the MLB with an OPS over 800. Our team has 4 of the top 90. Average 3. Thames Gamel Hiura *on pace* Arcia Perez are in the top 180 which makes 9. Average 6. Cain's OBP numbers have dropped but the offense hasn't been an issue. 4.87 is a little lower than we would like 4.37 almost a half a run too high And that's not due to Davies 2.19 Gio 3.19 Woodruff 3.22 Anderson 3.25 or even Chacin 4.88 Nor Hader Guerra Jeffress Houser or even Albers. Burnes Peralta (largely starting) Peralta in the pen 2.07 is resolved Burnes 7.55 in the pen not so much Barnes Wilson Williams (all 3 in AAA) is resolved Claudio being used as a non-loogey is an ongoing problem. Teams big weakness at this point is Burnes (who I want on the Woodruff plan, learn in AAA) and Claudio being used wrong. So we don't need a Kimbrel. We need 1 more pen arm and we've scooped some decent pen arms late in the season for very little. Team basically needs a Swarzak. Agree with most of your take except for: The crew if to win a championship will have to be comparable to the 2 best teams in baseball: The dodgers and Astros. Right now they are not. Both of those teams have much better hitting. Less home run reliant, able to score runs with out the home run, and much more disciplined hitters. Let’s compete with the dodgers, have to get past them in all likelihood anyhow to get to the series. They are better offensively than they were last year because of Bellinger and Verdugo. We need to be better. Way better offensively. We need last year’s Shaw and big production out of first base, as a minimum. Also be nice to have Hiura hit like a non rookie later in the year. As far as the pitching, we have this year what we didn’t last year in a stronger rotation. Woodruff alone makes it stronger. Nelson could give us another playoff ace, we’ll see. The bullpen needs one more shut down arm like a Knebel. Kimbrel could be that arm, but so could Rasmussen. I’m assuming Burnes to be a shut down arm late in the year, Woodruff might need innings management so he could be in the pen for a bit also. To get past a team as strong as the dodgers we’re gonna need that better offense and that overwhelming suffocating bullpen.
  13. Or the guys who have a capability of hitting have to hit. But how long is that leash with Shaw and Aguilar? Cain needs to get it going too.
  14. I am actually not overly concerned about our offense. We are still 4th in the NL in runs scored, even with an absolutely brutal schedule, and two of our best hitters from last year being giant pumpkins so far. Hiura is for real, he's going to give us much improved offensive production at 2nd, and we already have a massive offensive improvement at catcher from last year with Grandal. Even if just one of Shaw or Aguilar turns it around, we can mix and match and still cover the infield by putting either at 1st and leaving Hiura and Moose to cover 2nd and 3rd. Thames has also not been bad as long as you limit him to righties. Now 1st basemen are generally a relatively inexpensive market, so if you can find a deal that makes sense for a great price, there's nothing wrong with pulling the trigger. But we aren't sitting here with a massive offensive problem. Massive problem no. Our runs are too dependent on home runs though, I think we can all agree with that. Can’t manufacture runs. Cant get runners in from third with less than 2 out. Last year’s offensive the same problem. Look what happens in the playoffs vs dodgers > can’t homer off good pitching enough to win. Changes need to be made. Maybe Shaw can turn it around. But we need a quality hitting first baseman that doesn’t strike out 38% of the time, as a minimum trade get. If Shaw doesn’t tear it up then another bat too. Offense that can hit playoff pitching is a must if we want to win a championship.
  15. Ok, sorry your right i ignored your question. Very high probability that Smoak has been told already he’s being shopped so like almost all rental players that go from horrible teams to good teams should be excited(think moose). Just think Schoop the rare exception. I also think it was a shock to Schoop, maybe it was duquette’s not telling him till the last minute. It was a trade that came out of nowhere.
  16. This team is gonna have get a lot better offensively to compete with teams like the Dodgers and Astros, there the standard to be measured to and we should be trying to measure up to them if we want to win a championship. Money is going to have to be spent between now and the deadline whether some of you like it or not. How else can we get what we need? Our great farm system? Quality hitting first baseman. Quality hitting third baseman( Shaw?) Quality bench bat Kimbrel/trade acq.reliever
  17. How do you know Smoak would want to be traded? He's been in Toronto for 5 seasons. He has a 1 year old daughter. Seems we would have been able to make the same assumptions about Schoop going from the worst team in baseball to a contender, no? Why the silly talk? We just watched another retched Aguilar game, you read Keith’s info on Smoak, I know it’s really hard to agree with me on anything but this is a no brainer.
  18. Thank you, it’s obvious too everyone now it’s just a matter of time before changes are made. Too painful to watch. Aguilar knows he’s done too. Enough. How many more wins with just average production from first and third.
  19. Pretty misleading. Twins are 4-3 vs. Astros, 1-2 each vs Yankees and Phillies, and haven't played too many teams that have winning records yet. After tonight they'll be 8-9 against teams with .500 records, which is obviously not great, but I think that's just misleading. The only thing you can do is play the schedule that you have in front of you. They're 36 -17 because they're a good team. Good team but not 36-17 good. Misleading is the record, fattened against terrible teams. But yet that’s how it will be all year in the joke called the American League. Put them in the NL central they finish 4th.
  20. Twins announcers been talking last 2 days about how Kepler has been crushing left handed pitchers so not surprised with the double off the wall vs Claudio. Claudio is staying, no way is Stearns cutting him loose, not after giving up a pick, although I’m sure he wishes a do over, especially since they changed the rules right after the trade.
