  1. 15 1/2 months after surgery, yes, I expect him to be as good as before. But if not, it’s still an unbelievably strong pen.
  2. Then Frazier instead of moose or Donaldson. Up the offer to Iglesias. Sign Grandal to a 1 yr > 22 or 2 > 36 or 3 > 51. Whichever. And put the Donaldson savings (18 mil) in a FA starter. Our bullpen next year if we sign up Pomeranz is sic, 4 lefties 5 righties, 4 or 5 headed monster after the all-star break, with Knebel stronger, and the rest.
  3. You can when you employ video game economics. It has been explained in countless threads now how and why it would be nearly impossible for the Brewers to get out form under Cain's deal without having to eat a bunch of it or taking on a matching bad contract (think Johnny Cueto's) in return. But BC92 refuses to acknowledge this, instead believing that there is a team out there who will gladly take on the remaining 3 years of a aging, declining player's contract, while probably thinking they will provide something of value to the Brewers as well. That's just not the way baseball economics currently work. 15 years ago you might have been able to find an idiot GM that would play that game. Not today. Cain wouldn't recoup value unless he started out like gangbusters next year, and proved that this year was an outlier. But then the Brewers would probably just keep him. Also, BC92 continues to beat on the idea that Yelich will be dealt after the 2020 season. That's a whole different argument, but it likely has a below 0% chance of happening I imagine. Not everyone. JosephC seemed to think he could possibly be moved without sending back $. But ok, send 9-15 million with him if needed, and add that to this year’s payroll to make it 144-150. If Stearns is as smart as I hope he is, he’ll sell as high as possible on Yelich. Prospects compounded between control vs Rental. The tribe sold Bauer, it takes guts, but it’s the smart play.
  4. You can't just make Cain's salary disappear. I also don't think this adds up to $135 even if you can remove Cain, but I am not here to calculate that right now. Payroll going into next year ~ 105 million. Including every tendered contract. Shaw ~ 5, Davies ~ 5, Arcia ~ 3, Guerra ~2, Anderson 8.5, Cain 17 Nelson ~ 5 = 45. Eat 9 million on Cain then to rid. Payroll now at 144. Which is basically the same as this year profit wise with the 2 tv increases, local and National. Funny how that worked out. I’d be disappointed if this team didn’t win the World Series.
  5. If we don’t win the World Series this year then, in my opinion, we need to really go “all in” next year, here’s why: 1.) Last year of Yelich. The Brewers have to sell high on their good/great players, which means non-rental, controlled years. Selling high should net 4-5 top prospects. 2.) A talented core is there now to win. 3.) pitching is ready to blossom into a force. 4.) we will have more $ to spend on payroll. Here’s my plan with an opening payroll of 148 million: Rid of: Shaw Nelson Guerra Arcia Anderson Davies Cain > that saves ~ 45 million, making it ~ 60 mil. First the position players: C > Grandal (3 at 48 mil) 1B > Thames 2B > Hiura SS > Iglesias (2 at 20 mil) 3B > Moose (3 at 33 mil) RF > Yelich CF > Grisham LF > Braun Utility: Gamel Spangenberg Freitas Pina (?) Pitching staff: Rotation: Cole (7 at 210) Woodruff Houser Lyles (8 mil) Burnes Bullpen: Pomeranz (8 mil.) Suter Rasmussen Claudio Wahl Peralta Black Hader Knebel Ridiculous bullpen, with a great 1-2-3 in the rotation. Solid offense. Better infield D, Worse outfield D. Freitas platoon with Thames is strong, lots of rest for Grandal. This team would be very difficult to beat, with a solid 1-2-3, good balanced offense, and a bullpen that would be the hardest throwing in baseball history. Definitely at title contender. To get rid of Cain might have to pay 9-12 million. Add that to this year’s payroll 160 million.
  6. Nice try. No reading between the lines was necessary with my post. Anyone that’s watched this bullpen pitch since September 1, that says anything other than, at worst, it’s a good bullpen, doesn’t know what their talking about. My post pointed that out. That’s all. And (IF) it gets more and more dominant moving forward then what? Maybe the inconsistent word can go away, and we can see this pen for what it is > one of the best if not THE BEST in the NL. Come on! The best bullpen in the NL is in St. Louis. They've got two relievers each with over 60 innings pitched with a FIP of 2.90 or less. They have six arms in the bullpen with more than 40 innings pitched with a WHIP of 1.2 or less. Besides John Gant, every reliever in the Cardinal pen has at least a 2:1 Strike out to walk ratio. The Brewers pen is markedly improved since July by a few simple facts. Junior Guerra was dominant in August and has been very good in the 2nd half. The last four weeks Hader has regained his form as a dominant reliever (0.649 WHIP and 7.67:1 SO:W ratio). Since coming back from the minors on July 14th Jay Jackson has been solid. Finally Pomeranz, Black and Suter replace the revolving door of Alex Wilson, Jacob Barnes, Aaron Wilkerson, Burch Smith, Taylor Williams etc. I give the GM credit for remaking his pen on the fly into a very good unit, but the Cardinals still have the superior pen. Up until September yes. Right now it’s close, but, I believe the brewers pen will get better, while the Cards regress slightly. So going into the playoffs, we will have the best pen, yeah.
  7. Good story! No lack of pitching with this massive staff, especially with our secret weapon back(Woodruff)ready to be deployed at just the right time by our September Superstar Skipper, say that 3 times super fast.

  9. As good as Flaherty is, we got his number. We find a way to beat this guy. This weekend will be so much fun, especially to hear the quietest 45,000 fans in all of sports, silenced like last September.
  10. He will be 31 in his first year in a new contact...I mean...that isn't much of a risk. He will also make $50mil before he hits FA, so he already is set for life. He seems like a guy more than will to sign an extension early, but he is locked in as one of the best in the game. Even a slight "discount" is not going to be cheap. We won't get the giant discount to make it affordable. 30+ million a year for a past prime Yelich or 4-5 years of cheap talented stud players received by trade?
  11. I've seen those exact words at least a dozen times. Granted I took them as blue comments because they were so obviously opinions, but they often seem to be said in a troll-ish way to get people to react the the way they do. Sometimes that person is me, but those are the joys of the internet... Facts. Yes, I realize it has happened, but 99% of the time opinions are stated it does not. And yes, posting "facts" on a future prediction which cannot be proven or disproven until a future point in time and is obviously an opinion is an eye rolling thing to do no matter who it is. It’s so blatantly obvious it’s all opinion, that to think it not, is a dumb dumb, or troll. I vote no more > “IMO”!
  12. As long as we don’t get swept by the Cards, the division will still be in play. This is going down to the wire, imo, and could very well end in a tie. St Louis is not that good. In fact, if we sweep them, that could send them into the tailspin that their actual talent level deserves.
  13. Watched MLB Now the other day, Brian Kenny statistically, like the Stache, showed how far superior Yelich’s offensive season was compared to Bellinger, but, then when asked who he’d vote for, picked Bellinger. Kinda telling there isn’t it. Ya, no Hollywood bias.
  14. In other words: Good:> Bullpen>> Bad>>> Nobody Sure, that would be correct in describing yesterday’s bullpen. Although I might have used the adjective great or dominant to better reflect what we saw. Just hoping to hear less, “this pen sucks” out of ignorant posters would be welcomed. It’s ok to say inconsistent still, although another couple of mostly shut down pen games should put an end to that talk too. So here’s to hoping for that.
  15. It depends on the make-up of the pen. Even though we have 14 potential pen arms right now, T Williams Burnes Faria aren’t being used. So if we have 10 in the pen next year, that be 2 more than the regular season, unlike this year, if we have 3 Suter type starter arms capable of pitching 3 innings, that would actually be better than the 14 we have now. That’s what I do if I’m Stearns, abundance of starter arms, 2 or 3 of which pitch out of the pen. Look at the other day, CC knew he had Suter for at least 2-3 innings, took out Davies after 4.
  16. Dodgers Braves Rays Twins Padres White Sox, that’s 6, all potential contenders in 2021.
  17. This teams much maligned pen today: 5 IP 0 H 0 BB 10 K’s Thing of beauty ^^. Underrated and Underappreciated.
  18. No thank you. After Another MVP type performance, and, a all in, do it for Yelli chance at a title, he’s traded next offseason with 2 years control, for 4-5 top 100 prospects. That, coupled with the trading of Hader this offseason for 3-4 top 100 prospects, will help us sustain our window of winning.
  19. Whatever, sure, ok. Actually it was 12 days ago, August 31. Some, have been talking about our September roster since April, so a lot of what’s taking place isn’t surprising at all. Don’t feel bad, don’t put down, just enjoy.
  20. That's the great thing about being a pessimist. If the Brewers fail you get to say "look how clever I am, I predicted this", if they lose you get to see your team do well. It's the easy cop-out, frankly. Well said. It’s the easy way to go, and it’s very addictive, you know, the easy way. But I will say, this year’s team, almost had me doing the no hope dance, but, Stearns & Counsell’s Previous September dominance, the absurd amount of bad luck, from performance to swinging bunts that hit the third base bag to 178 bloops falling between 3 defenders, to the amazing amount of close victories, the high character of the players, chemistry etc. or just the gut saying there’s a run here yet.
  21. Clancy should get the best ever observational prediction regarding Brent Suter year’s before the rest of us caught on. Well done sir.
  22. Disagree, Baez faded badly down the stretch. Market size makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. And Hollywood adds even more bias. Braun also won over Kemp with similar numbers. The big market argument just doesn't hold up. That’s true. But it’s different this time for some reason.
