  1. I get what you're saying and I agree that ideally he's shifted to a more "traditionally" on-base spot or further down the order if we can pick up another legit bat that fits the 4/5 spot, but right now CC is playing the hot bats and Frelick is certainly handling it perfectly fine so far. Overall: Batting 4th: You've gotta love that the kid is playing like he belongs right out of the chute.
  2. Not to mention they're doing it with about half the payroll too.
  3. Has anyone heard any updates on Ruf? If he's ready to come back soon, he could fill the DH spot against LHP (99 wRC+ vs. LHP in '23, 116 in '22, 165 in '21). Then pretty much throw/rotate anyone in there against righties. Even if Santana/Ruf/whoever only put up 90+ wRC+ from 1B and DH, it'd be a huge improvement over what we've done thus far (78 and 55 wRC+ respectively), especially against lefties (54 and 17 wRC+ respectively). Of course I'd love to pick up a 3B and/or OF bat that could also rotate in at DH still, but Santana really was a nice pickup to start stabilizing this offense. Get Woody back in the rotation and let's do this thing!
  4. Nothing to get too crazy about, but I was worried we'd actually not address 1B/DH at all. So I like it! 👍 Veteran. Switch hitter. 99 wRC+ vs. RHP, 100 wRC+ vs. LHP. 158 wRC+ since the All-Star Break. Projected for a 95-103 wRC+ the rest of the season. And he's a legit 1B! Should certainly help stabilize/improve on the 78 wRC+ we've gotten at 1B this year (81 vs. RHP, 54 vs. LHP) and 55 wRC+ we've gotten at DH this year (66 vs. RHP, 17 vs. LHP).
  5. Agree, it's kind of amazing. People give the Packers a hard time for only winning two Super Bowls in 30 years of Favre/Rodgers. The Angels are like if the Packers only made the playoffs once in those 30 years.
  6. I like Wiemer, love his defense, and am intrigued by the bat when he's on, but we're getting to the point of the season where the big league club needs to do what's best for their playoff hopes, which won't necessarily align with putting a player's development first for the next couple months. It's been difficult to sit Wiemer or send him down to this point due to our lack of outfield alternatives, but bringing Frelick up may be the start of that turning. I'd like to see us still grab a bat that solidifies the outfield a bit (maybe a Bellinger or Pham type) at which point letting Wiemer "take a break", re-group, and earn that extra year down at AAA might be a good move for a couple weeks, especially if they're going to start limiting his role on the big league club anyways.
  7. I think so? But he's been pretty much the same as Tellez/Winker last year and this year, but is 5 years older and has worse projections for the rest of the season: Hosmer: Tellez: Winker:
  8. Yeli and Contreras are showing how big a difference a couple batters in the lineup can make. If we can pickup a couple more dependable bats at the deadline and/or a couple of our underperforming guys can play closer to their projections, this team could be fun to watch the rest of the season.
  9. With us playing the Phillies and the Reds playing the Giants, every win in this series will gain a game on at least two of our closest competitors while every loss will lose a game on at least two of our closest competitors. Would be nice for the standings to get at least two out of three here!
  10. Not to mention each of them are actually trending even better than that the last 30 days: Tellez: 18.2 K% Adames: 19.6 K% Turang: 13.2 K% Wiemer: 22.4 K% Not sure where "at or close to a 40% clip" came from...
  11. I'm surprised no one has brought up their dislike for Winker yet.
  12. I'm all game for adding Hiura back into the mix. But he's gotta play everyday. With Tellez and Winker both LHH, it's just too tempting for CC to sit Hiura against righties and play him only against lefties. For it to work, he has to play Hiura everyday and then choose which of Tellez/Winker sits. If we could do that over the next month it could really clear up the 1B/DH situation so we can decide at that point if we need to go outside the organization to find a 1B, a DH, or both before the deadline.
  13. I put together a comparison of the Brewer's year-to-date wRC+ at each position with NL and MLB ranks vs. current players' projected rest-of-season wRC+: There's a LOT of room for improvement and the biggest source of that is going to have to be just players playing closer to their projected abilities. Tellez, Urias, Adames, and Winker all have projected wRC+ that are 25+ higher than what their position has produced so far this year. Frelick and Hiura are a couple wildcards to throw into the mix as well, but we need at least a couple of those underperforming guys to start showing some life over the next month and then swing a trade for a couple bats to fill in the other holes to have a chance at seeing some consistent improvement on offense. Other than that, get Woody back in the rotation, throw Ashby into the mix, and ride it out on the strength of this team's pitching and defense. Put that all together and I think we still have a shot at watching some fun Brewers baseball down the stretch!
  14. Murphy and Smith have been clearly the best catchers in the NL thus far, but wanted to give Contreras a little more love than he's getting in our poll so far. 2023 NL Qualifying Catchers:
  15. So are the Blue Jays, Yankees, Rangers, Rays, Diamondbacks, and Padres even worse batters according to this?
  16. Burnes (Age 28, $10M in '23, Arb3 in '24) vs. Bieber (Age 28, $10M in '23, Arb3 in '24) vs. Wheeler (Age 33, $24.5M in '23, $23.5M in '24) is interesting. 2023: Past 2 Seasons: Past 3 Seasons:
  17. This seems to do the trick: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/injured-list/cumulative-team/
  18. Looks like this guy has been exclusively a reliever this year until today. So I'm guessing it's an opener situation and Counsell's banking on them switching to a right pretty quickly.
  19. I think predominantly ZiPS player projections. I'm not sure if it's updated throughout the season (or how often) to account for injuries to Woodruff, Ashby, Houser, Mitchell, Urias, Taylor, etc., but that's certainly a concern as well.
  20. I'm not there yet. Neither is FanGraphs:
  21. Hoping the top half of the lineup gets it done today... 2021-23 vs. LHP:
  22. I like the idea of taking a chance on him, but he really is a wildcard at this point and if he's looking to land a major league deal it would force some decisions (from the article): Here's how all those guys stack up against Britton since 2020: If he's willing to take a minor league deal and force his way onto the roster, I'm all in. Otherwise, I'm not sure who's the odd man out right now. Can't see them sending Strzelecki down, I think we're sticking with Bush, they seem to like Payamps, it'd be unfortunate to lose Varland or Guerra. Maybe Wilson I guess since they don't seem to be considering him as starter depth?
  23. Through 5 games... 6.2 runs scored per game 2.0 runs allowed per game
