  1. Looks like this guy has been exclusively a reliever this year until today. So I'm guessing it's an opener situation and Counsell's banking on them switching to a right pretty quickly.
  2. I think predominantly ZiPS player projections. I'm not sure if it's updated throughout the season (or how often) to account for injuries to Woodruff, Ashby, Houser, Mitchell, Urias, Taylor, etc., but that's certainly a concern as well.
  3. I'm not there yet. Neither is FanGraphs:
  4. Hoping the top half of the lineup gets it done today... 2021-23 vs. LHP:
  5. I like the idea of taking a chance on him, but he really is a wildcard at this point and if he's looking to land a major league deal it would force some decisions (from the article): Here's how all those guys stack up against Britton since 2020: If he's willing to take a minor league deal and force his way onto the roster, I'm all in. Otherwise, I'm not sure who's the odd man out right now. Can't see them sending Strzelecki down, I think we're sticking with Bush, they seem to like Payamps, it'd be unfortunate to lose Varland or Guerra. Maybe Wilson I guess since they don't seem to be considering him as starter depth?
  6. I actually really enjoyed the prospect updates during the game! It'd be nice to get "live" updates like that as part of an "organizational gameday" thread, however, I don't know how we do that without it steering conversation too far away from the major league game that day.
  7. Although this view of his performance does look pretty pitiful as well:
  8. Here we go! The overall numbers aren't as bad as I expected, however, 20% of his called strikes were actually balls, that's awful. And I really do think he got into the Brewers' hitters' heads with the bad calls which likely caused a bigger run discrepancy than just the 1.49 runs his calls directly caused.
  9. 136. That said, we're 10 games into a 162 game season. Not every lineup is going to be about optimizing matchups, sometimes it's about getting a guy with only 13 at bats some more plate appearances.
  10. Welcome! Love the name!
  11. Through 5 games... 6.2 runs scored per game 2.0 runs allowed per game
  12. After 4 games: - Offense: 5.5 runs scored/game - Run Prevention Unit: 2.5 runs allowed/game 👍
  13. I don't know about that. I think Counsell likes to get everyone into action early in the season (and/or when they're called up). Might want to hold off more than the 2nd game to decide if there's a pattern. Regardless, I like that he doesn't let guys sit on the bench too long without getting into a game, gotta both keep everyone ready to play and give guys rest throughout the long season.
  14. I think the Wiemer discussion really is a non-issue. If he makes the OD roster and needs to be sent down for two weeks later in the season to preserve a year of control, I find it highly unlikely there's any scenario that prevents the FO from doing so. Right now, it seems to make most sense to do it when Taylor comes back, but it's a loong season, I'm sure there will be ample opportunity to do so later if he's mashing or there are injuries, etc. But even in those two cases 1.) as others have noted, replacing a hot rookie for 2 weeks with another capable player isn't likely to cost many, if any, wins, and 2.) we have many, many other options to fill in for injuries for a couple weeks (possibly Anderson, Winker, and Miller on the big league roster already, plus Frelick, Perkins, possibly Naquin still, even Turang, and a whole host of other minor league guys, including even Chourio at some point, that could have a cup of coffee until Wiemer can come back up).
  15. Love Trent Grisham sporting the Super Troopers look, lol
  16. Holy moly, what a fun tournament! Let's bring on the regular season!!
  17. All I want: All the Cardinal players to fail horribly (Goldy and Arenado off to a good start), Shohei to go deep, and the U.S.A. to win regardless with Devin closing it out. LET'S DO THIS! Edit: Oh, and a 15 pitch Ohtani-Trout match up, don't care how it ends.
  18. Ooh, win-win situation here. Either Rowdy and Luis move on or the Card blows the game. Great game!
  19. LUIS URIAS! 💪
  20. I suspect Frelick's involvement in the WBC has more to do with maximizing his playing time right now while he's still in camp than the Taylor injury. That said, I'm also sure the Taylor injury has opened that door a little bit for the possibility he gets that opening day nod as well. It's going to be a whirlwind of a month for him, it'll be impressive if he keeps producing through all of it!
  21. Count me in as a non-gamer that's enjoying Last of Us! I definitely haven't felt like I've missed anything by never playing the game. I was a Walking Dead fan and made it through that whole thing. There's a lot of similarity between the two (especially the first season of TWD when they were still actually trying to figure out what was going on), but so far Last of Us has a much nicer pace than what TWD became (ie. not staying in one location for 20 straight episodes). Definitely check it out if that genre is your thing.
  22. I haven't seen any posted pundit predictions, but the projection systems seem to think they'll be in the mix: Clay Davenport - 1st place NL Central (90-72) https://claydavenport.com/projections/PROJHOME.shtml PECOTA - 1st place in NL Central (87.6-74.4, 64% chance of playoffs) https://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/ ZiPS - 2nd place in NL Central (83-79, 39.7% chance of playoffs) https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-2023-start-of-spring-zips-projected-standings-national-league/ (and Dan Szymborski notes "The Brewers come the closest, and they have a very high “perfect health” upside. ZiPS just doesn’t like Milwaukee’s depth anywhere near at much as St. Louis’") Bleacher Report "Way-too-Early Predictions" from November - 2nd place in NL Central (87-75) https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10054283-way-too-early-predictions-for-the-2023-mlb-playoffs-and-world-series Maybe it's a semantics thing? But I think a lot of people think the Brewers will be competing for the division and/or a wild card spot and I would guess there's close to a 50/50 chance of any given pundit putting them down for a playoff spot in their predictions.
  23. The articles are written by members of the forum. They're basically new topics with long, well thought out first posts. I have no problem with those being included in the forums the way they are. If you don't want to read an article as an introduction to a topic for discussion, they're clearly marked and you can ignore them.
  24. Do we know the Brewers sent him the old hat? Couldn't it just be that he bought it, or maybe got it as a gift? Maybe he likes the original ball and glove logo? Not sure what the fuss is about, I think it's cool he got geared up and shared a post with it.
