  1. My girlfriend's mom got us tickets in the outfield for the homerun derby, which I was more interested in seeing than the actual game, so that was super cool. The Best Damn Sports Show Period was setup out there as well so I got a random Tom Arnold autograph, lol. I also managed to get a ball tossed to me by Vladimir Guerrero before the derby started. The derby was fun to watch, Sexson had a good showing, but it was highlighted by the shows put on by Giambi and Sosa, and I distinctly remember seeing Sosa blast a mammoth homerun over Bernie's slide. It was a fun day!
  2. It's pretty amazing that they've pulled off the record they have to this point with a run differential that low, but I'm not sure that looking at actual run differentials to this point in the season is overly meaningful, they can swing rapidly with blowout games one way or the other. Looking at the projected run differential for the rest of the season they're a more respectable 10th in the MLB (https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings). And that's with them projected to be middle of the pack offensively and only about 9th best in the majors defensively/pitching. If they can maintain a top level pitching staff (which getting back some key guys and staying healthier the rest of the season should help) and improve on offense a little bit (replacing black holes with a key pickup or two), they could easily be better than that. That's not mindblowing or an indicator that they're going to cakewalk through the playoffs to a World Series championship, but it gives them a shot to be successful. Hopefully MA/DS have a couple under the radar pickups in them this year to give the offense the boost it needs. We all know the offense needs to be better, just wondering what those that keep repeating that are hoping happens to improve that? Or do you just want others to stop hoping the team can be successful as it is (even though they've been pretty successful as is despite a pretty horrid stretch and injuries and under-production by many players, etc.)?
  3. Run differential is more important than rankings among contending teams. So having an average offense around 100 wRC+ is still significantly better than having an offense like the A's or Tigers around 76-77 wRC+ even though we'd be the worst playoff team offensively either way. We have the second best xFIP in the majors at 3.58 (only behind the Yankees' at 3.48). That's how we can still be competitive with other playoff teams in limited playoff series with an average offense (that could also play above average for a short period of time during a playoff run). That said, we could definitely use an offensive boost, I think everyone agrees on that, it's just a matter of what's realistic and what the cost is to get it.
  4. Considering Brewer games are my choice for probably close to half my television entertainment, $20/mo. isn't bad compared to what I pay for the other half of my viewing on YouTubeTV ($65/mo.) and Netflix ($20/mo.) and at times additional services. But that's my personal viewing preference, if you only watch a game or so a week then it probably isn't worth it.
  5. Looks like June 23rd is the release day on this: https://www.nexttv.com/news/batter-up-sinclair-bally-sports-plus-streaming-app-launch-june-23
  6. It could very well be both. They knew his 10 years was coming up and they also wanted to give him a chance to turn things around. So they set that as the date he needed to show them something by to keep him on board. Unfortunately he looked gassed and it was time to cut ties. For a guy that has been as good as Cain has and has meant as much as he has to the organization, a June cut doesn't feel like they let it drag out an unnecessary amount of time before making a move.
  7. Btw, here's an article regarding Cain's decision to opt out in 2020 and it includes a snippet stating that he did indeed forfeit his remaining salary in doing so: https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2020/08/01/brewers-centerfielder-lorenzo-cain-opts-out-remainder-season/5562796002/
  8. Is there a "couldn't disagree more" button we can add to the forum?
  9. I know there will be a lot of people that dismiss this idea (strikes out too much, low batting average, we already have players like him, etc. etc.), but I would love him for the right price. Since 2019, he has a 120 wRC+ vs RHP and 118 wRC+ vs LHP. Even in his bad year this year (where he's been awful against lefties) he's still putting up a 120 wRC+ vs RHP. Plus he's a good fielder, so even if he doesn't pick things up against lefties, you have some options for playing him instead of McCutchen or Renfroe vs righties and giving Yelich some additional time at DH. That said, he does make $10M this year, but is a free agent next season, so MA would have to be willing to expand the payroll a little bit temporarily.
  10. Burnes, Woodruff, Lauer, and Houser all become free agents after 2024. And then you have Peralta. Ashby, and Small through at least 2026. I think you need to get back something for the guys that you can't sign longterm, but I think it could be pretty devastating trading four of those in the same offseason. I would try to sign Lauer to a nice, small-ish extension (he seems to be in just the right success/age region to maybe get him to sign something reasonable). And then spread out the trades/losses of the other three. Maybe see if Houser can get a bat or two to help out with the offense immediately, then listen to trade offers for Woodruff this offseason and Burnes the next offseason, hoping to get back high end pitching talent to replenish the starting rotation sooner than later. Of course, that all requires the right hauls in return and for the current in-house options to be pitching with enough success to absorb each loss. But if everything goes well, this could be the beginning of a nice cycle of talent insurgence while staying within the organization's budget constraints.
  11. Seems pretty in line with similar services and pretty reasonable for ~25 Brewer games per month, plus you get the Bucks games as well, right? If you're a casual viewer it might be too much, but if you usually throw on 4-5+ games a week, it's not a bad deal.
  12. Confirmed: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/rowdy-tellez-21293/#:~:text=Current Contract,a total salary of %241%2C940%2C000.
  13. They mentioned it in the 8th when they saw him warming up
  14. Interesting. He seems to be weighing in more on that they're hard to grip (or that they're different in some other way inning to inning causing pitches to be wild). Not sure if that has much to do with the humidors, the quality of ball, or is more of a reflection on just wanting some way to add tackiness to them one way or another.
  15. Good points in tempering expectations on his numbers. That said, as long as he's better relative to the league compared to the 60 wRC+ our 3B have produced so far (and he's been a 92 wRC+ player since 2019) I'll be pretty happy. Though, your point still stands that the deadened ball may hurt him more than others meaning his wRC+ may drop as well.
  16. I'm not a huge Peterson fan, but I think he does make a nice jack of all trades for the bench now that Urias should be back to taking the bulk of the starts at 3B.
  17. lol, I've been lurking the Packer Draft thread all day (which btw was super helpful and made the past three days entertaining for someone that knows nothing about the players being drafted!), but I'm definitely in full Brewers mode now. Nice start! Tides are turning a little against these lefty starters recently!
  18. I 100% agree that it's been waaayyyy more successful having a pitching dominant team than it was the other way around. But there's got to be some point where there's diminishing returns on having a 6th, 7th, 8th, etc., really good starting pitcher in the system in comparison to having another good everyday bat in the lineup. You wouldn't trade Adames at this point for another starting pitcher, would you? I can't imagine we need more starting pitching depth at this point at the cost of the offense, and it is quite likely we could be a better overall team at this point losing a little bit of that depth to help out the offense. All that said, I wouldn't do anything unless it was a very clear upgrade on offense. And I wouldn't make that move until we've had more time to see what we have (and don't have) on the offensive side of things this year as well. I also would be very VERY hesitant to trade any of Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, or Ashby at this point, but in the case of Woodruff, he will be getting expensive the next couple years and he may bring back a big enough haul where it's worth at least considering. But again, I doubt we get a big enough offer for that to ever actually come to fruition.
  19. Because they're possibly legit 7 deep in a 5/6 man rotation and struggle to score on offense. ?‍♂️ I agree that I would be very leery on losing any of that depth, but you certainly have to listen and someone like Devers should at least perk your ears. That said, I think it's one of those situations where you're never going to get the massive haul it would take to part with Woodruff for it to ever actually happen. Now trading a Houser or Lauer or even a Small... I'd still want something pretty significant back, but I think you're back in the realm of reality again with one of them on the table.
  20. I'm just not sure what you're trying to accomplish at this point. We all know a better offense would help tremendously. Repeating it over and over without any suggestions or ideas on how to improve it, and only dwelling on what you wish they would have done instead, doesn't really provide anything for the other posters to discuss. Without magically going back in time and having a bottomless payroll, the realistic thing to do at this point is hope Urias' return combined with 1.) players off to slow starts bouncing back to numbers closer to their projections, and 2.) some nice in-season pickups by MA/DS will help propel the offense to something more respectable and then hope they get hot at the right time at the end of the season. I am at the point that I would not mind headlining a trade or two with some higher end prospects and/or starting pitching depth to shore up the offense. That said, as long as we're still hovering around the top of the division and winning against teams we should win against, I wouldn't rush anything. Let's see who's still struggling in the next month or two or three so we're targeting the right positions. It'll be interesting to see how the trade market opens up as the season goes on.
  21. That was amazing by Schwarber, lol. Can't wait to see what Jomboy does with it, lol. Also, good win!
  22. Maybe you're thinking of the Nationals a few years back when they went on their World Series run?
  23. Just to clarify, you know Renfroe wasn't a free agent signing and it was pretty incredible that MA/DS were able to swap JBJ for him while also lowering the payroll in the first place, right? How would you have shed Renfroe's (or JBJ's) salary completely to free up that payroll space? Not saying it would be impossible to do, but it certainly would have complicated it much more than simply not signing Renfroe had he been a free agent (and pretending JBJ never existed).
  24. Oof, they have a team wRC+ of 53. That is impressively horrendous: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2022&month=0&season1=2022&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2022-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31&sort=17,d
