  1. Darn Brewers' pregame show can't even spell Rogers' name correctly. I guess we're just used to throwing a "d" in there in this state for some reason...
  2. 2020-22 RPs w/ at least 100 IP (btw, similar rankings whether you go 2019-22, 2020-22, or 2021-2022... Williams, Hader, and Rogers in the top 8 in all date ranges):
  3. I'd put the chances of the Brewers acquiring Soto as likely as a first place, contending team trading its All-Star closer mid-sea.... oh...
  4. For the remainder of this year, Rogers for Hader is about as even a swap as you could possibly ask for... 2022: 2020-22: Lamet is an interesting option to throw into the back of the rotation mix (or bullpen)... 2020-22: Makes me wonder if his inclusion may allow for someone like Lauer to go in another deal...
  5. They should just limit how many devices can be streaming at the same time for each account.
  6. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/mariners-trade-kendall-graveman-astros-abraham-toro-joe-smith.html
  7. Whether you think the site's accurate or not, now's a fun time to look at what fan's are coming up with for trades on the BTV site: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/?team_filter=461 If some of these proposals are in the ballpark for what a Gallo trade will cost, I'm all for it:
  8. It was incredible just getting rid of JBJ's contract, the fact he somehow brought Renfroe back in the deal too is just crazy.
  9. Considering you're really going from Jonathan Davis to Joey Gallo, I'm not sure it's even that big of a leap to assume you're upgrading the roster (and possibly significantly). It's all about price to get him and hopefully his NY struggles make that price negligible. If not, move onto something safer.
  10. Sign me up! It'd be a little hard losing the extra couple years of control you have with Urias compared to Devers, but Devers would instantly be the best hitter on the team and it's not even that close. If you can get a guy like that on the roster for this year and next year while our pitching is still elite, you gotta do it.
  11. This is true and I'd be okay with Taylor being the primary CF the rest of the year. That said (and the other poster did say "in a perfect world"), the fact that Taylor's hitting 9th shows he plays the position that we have the most room to upgrade offensively. Move the CF from the 9th position to anywhere higher in the lineup and you're adding some nice length to the order. Not to mention, the upgrade from Davis to Taylor as the 4th OF is a huge jump offensively as well. In a dream world, we'd find a way to get Bryan Reynolds, but even getting someone like Ian Happ would be a pretty significant upgrade to the starting lineup. Any other possible CF additions would be at least a clear upgrade from Davis and add some good depth and flexibility to the roster:
  12. Just for some reference I took the players in MLBTradeRumor's Top 50 Trade Candidates (https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/top-50-trade-mlb-trade-candidates.html) and ran comparisons against our current hitters. Definitely a lot of upgrade potential out there. 2020-22 vs. RHP: 2020-22 vs. LHP: I also pared that down to trade targets that had at least 100 wRC+ against both RHP and LHP from 2020-22 to compare their overall stats in that time period against our current hitters:
  13. If we're multiple pieces away, adding Soto for 2.5 years would certainly be one of the biggest steps we could take to not being multiple pieces away. Our lineup doesn't have too many black holes in it to begin with at this point, so getting a player that is significantly better than anything we have on the roster probably moves the needle further than adding 2-3 small possible improvements elsewhere. Just to put things in perspective, here's Soto's numbers the past three years compared to what we have available currently... 2020-22 vs. RHP: 2020-22 vs. LHP: And the key here is that this isn't a guy you're getting for two months, it's possibly three playoff pushes. With our current pitching, if there's any possibility of getting him, you gotta look into it. For this year, if you pair that with something like a Josh Bell (120 wRC+ vs. RHP '20-22, 117 wRC+ vs LHP '20-22), I think you are all of a sudden looking at a team that is definitely a contender to go deep in the playoffs. It would cost a HAUL, but I think Soto is a guy you do that for.
  14. Even with Hader's slump and all the injuries, we have the 4th best xFIP in the majors. I think we're starting to take for granted just how good this pitching staff is and has been. I understand the hesitancy to part with prospects that have extremely high ceilings and the potential financial flexibility they would allow for if they hit those ceilings, but we are in a window of elite pitching that's likely going to start breaking down as soon as this offseason (Hader's contract is up after next season, Burnes, Woodruff, Lauer, and Houser's contracts are all up after the '24 season and I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing some of them traded earlier than that this offseason and next). We can wait on prospects, but there's a good chance our pitching won't be as elite by the time they pan out, if they pan out. I'm not saying we should trade our top guys just to trade them, but having Soto for 2-3 playoff runs or Reynolds for 3-4 playoff runs are the types of scenarios where you have to consider parting with some top guys to improve this offense while our pitching staff is still intact.
  15. So they were good for 53 games (33-20 through June 2nd), went on an 8 game skid, and have been a little better than mediocre in 32 games since (17-15 since June 12th). Seems like a lot of semantics at play, but this is not a "bad" team and their largest stretch of play, projections/expectations, current standing, and ability to add at the deadline seem to indicate, while not a World Series favorite, this is in fact a "good" team. I personally enjoy this team immensely compared to what we endured for the most part in the 90's and 2000's. It's okay to enjoy a good, not great team that has a very high likelihood of making the playoffs and hoping they catch lightning in a bottle.
  16. I'm interested in hearing how it's going as well (I'm also out of market, but I have friends/family that may be interested if it works well). Hopefully silence is an indication there hasn't been much to complain about!
  17. Reynolds would be controlled through 2025: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/pittsburgh-pirates/bryan-reynolds-20193/
  18. Just to clarify, it sounds like while the Yankees would like to shed Gallo's salary to take on additional salary elsewhere, I don't think that needs to be a direct swap. The following tidbits were on MLBTradeRumors yesterday: ... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/yankees-royals-have-discussed-andrew-benintendi-trade.html
  19. I think I misworded my intention when I said "Seems like everyone's just defending against a perceived extreme view point that I don't think anyone actually believes in." I meant basically you think Brewcrew82 has a more extreme view of thinking the offense is good than he actually does and he thinks you have a more extreme view of how bad the offense than you actually do. You both seem to agree that the offense is basically league average, but keep throwing stats back and forth arguing if they are slightly above or below that. The actual disagreement seems to be that you think it's highly unlikely they can do well in the playoffs with this offense whereas he thinks there's a chance the hitters get hot at the right time (which doesn't really contradict eachother's beliefs either). I think you both probably also agree that it'd be ideal to add to the offense. This "argument" has been going on for quite awhile now and leaking into other threads. My confusion is that I think you both actually believe the same thing, lol. Maybe it's time to shift gears to discussing how we can actually improve the offense? Which prospects are you willing to give up to make a deal work? etc.
  20. I just don't understand where this conversation is going at this point. Seems like everyone's just defending against a perceived extreme view point that I don't think anyone actually believes in. I think everyone agrees that this Brewers team is a good team, but is faulted when it comes to its offense. That said, the offense isn't awful, it's about league average and has the ability to get hot for periods of time. It'd be great to improve the offense somehow, but we may not have the resources to make a major splash before the trade deadline. So realistically our best hope may be in relying on our elite pitching and the offense getting on a hot streak at the right time. If MA/DA can obtain a nice bat or two to compliment the offense this month I'm sure everyone would welcome it.
  21. What advantage does he get by posting it earlier? Probably no real advantage by posting it later either, but seems like a non-issue (unless you're trying to set your fantasy lineup). I'm guessing there's zero strategy involved. He probably just has a certain gameday routine and he happens to get to the lineup later than other clubs.
  22. I think you're slightly misunderstanding what he's saying. I believe he's saying if there's a specific player you want, go get him now rather than sitting on your heels and risking another team getting him first. Additionally, as we saw with CC Sabathia, there can definitely be an advantage in improving your roster a little earlier, and for more games, than waiting til the deadline. That said, you're probably going to pay more to get a player sooner than later as well. And theoretically, if another team gets a player before you, you'd think the selling team would have done their research and given you an opportunity to outbid for the player as well. The caveat being if you know your need now and by waiting another team has an injury creating the same need, in which case you actually are creating more competition for the same player by waiting. Regardless, I don't think the premise is totally misguided.
  23. * SMALL SAMPLE SIZE ALERT * but the offense may be heating up... Since June 14th (@NYM, @CIN, STL, TOR): Or since June 20th if you want to get past that Reds series: Again super small samples, but so are playoff series, and this team can definitely have stretches where they're competitive offensively with the other NL contenders. Mix in they still have the best xFIP in the league on the pitching side of things and there's hope they could make a run as-is in the playoffs if they get healthy and get in a groove. That said I definitely expect some reinforcements to be added to the team as well. Good times to be a Brewers fan!
