McCutchen in agreement with Brewers
brewerfan82 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
There's certainly still room for a "big bat" if the right opportunity presents itself. McCutchen would be primarily filling the small side of a DH platoon. So a bat that hits RHP well still fits in nicely. Also Tellez is no where near a sure thing over at 1B, so someone that can help there. I still wouldn't bet on a Castellanos/Bryant type, but I'm still crossing my fingers on someone like Voit or Davis. -
Have the Mets completely given up on Dom Smith? It could be interesting to take a flyer on him if we swing a deal for JD Davis. It looks like he still has a couple options as well, so you don't necessarily need to find room for him on the major league roster right away, but he could partner at 1B with Tellez well and share DH duties if he makes the roster. You could potentially mix n' match Davis and Smith in at 1B/3B/DH pretty well. 2019-21 vs. RHP: # Name Team G AB PA H 1B 2B 3B HR R RBI BB IBB SO HBP SF SH GDP SB CS BB% K% AVG OBP SLG OPS wRC+ 1 J.D. I think this is true, however, I doubt the front office wants to leave the cupboards completely bare by trading away the few guys we have either. This is still a really really good team. With more playoff teams, we have a very good chance of making the playoffs already and once you're in anything can happen. It's probably wise to hold onto our bigger chips for the time being and maybe reassess how things are going at the trade deadline. That said, in the meantime I think they could still swing a smaller deal or two for guys like Luke Voit without giving up any of our top prospects.

Voit, Davis, or Miller would really fit nicely as a final pickup and would boost the offense against righthanders. 2019-21 vs. RHP: # Name Team G AB PA H 1B 2B 3B HR R RBI BB IBB SO HBP SF SH GDP SB CS BB% K% AVG OBP SLG OPS wRC+ 1 Christian Yelich MIL 286 750 902 216 131 36 3 46 152 126 140 18 211 8 4 0 9 33 7 15.5% 23.4% .288 .404 .528 .932 142 2 Luke Voit NYY 233 618 713 164 96 27 1 40 107 110 78 1 202 16 1 0 21 0 0 10.9% 28.3% .265 .362 .506 .868 134 3 J.D. Stearns' MO in the past has been to wait out the market and grab overlooked players later on. So I would guess if there is another significant acquisition it would depend on who's leftover after this initial surge of transactions. -

Pair this with the Renfroe addition and you probably have a slight improvement vs RHP and a major improvement vs LHP compared to the Garcia/JBJ duo (mainly because JBJ is quite bad and Clutch MASHES lefties). Albeit you likely have a big drop in defense with this pair as well. 2019-21 vs. RHP: # Name Team G AB PA H 1B 2B 3B HR R RBI BB IBB SO HBP SF SH GDP SB CS BB% K% AVG OBP SLG OPS wRC+ 1 Avisail Garcia - - - 295 810 880 214 144 32 1 37 99 126 44 2 215 19 7 0 19 17 7 5.0% 24.4% .264 .315 .443 .758 102 2 Hunter Renfroe - - - 296 748 814 166 78 43 0 45 108 122 55 0 235 3 8 0 10 7 1 6.8% 28.9% .222 .275 .460 .735 91 3 Andrew McCutchen PHI 246 643 748 138 80 30 0 28 100 96 96 1 174 1 8 0 9 9 2 12.8% 23.3% .215 .314 .392 .706 88 4 Jackie Bradley Jr. - - - 308 784 877 165 93 41 5 26 106 86 71 3 241 17 3 2 9 13 7 8.1% 27.5% .210 .289 .375 .664 75 2019-21 vs. LHP: # Name Team G AB PA H 1B 2B 3B HR R RBI BB IBB SO HBP SF SH GDP SB CS BB% K% AVG OBP SLG OPS wRC+ 1 Andrew McCutchen PHI 151 275 329 80 44 15 2 19 55 47 50 1 61 4 0 0 6 3 0 15.2% 18.5% .291 .407 .567 .975 157 2 Hunter Renfroe - - - 193 335 391 83 41 14 1 27 63 60 49 1 86 2 5 0 5 1 1 12.5% 22.0% .248 .343 .537 .880 130 3 Avisail Garcia - - - 183 321 372 88 52 21 1 14 50 47 45 7 80 5 1 0 10 2 4 12.1% 21.5% .274 .371 .477 .848 125 4 Jackie Bradley Jr. - - - 190 288 335 63 42 12 1 8 34 27 36 1 94 7 3 1 7 7 2 10.7% 28.1% .219 .317 .351 .668 79 Go get a Voit-type to help against righties (.868 OPS and 134 wRC+ the past three years) and we should be sitting pretty good. -

I don't think we have the payroll or minor league resources to get another "big bat" at this point. So I think you're more likely to see Stearns and Co. filling out the edges of the roster to build depth and avoid giant holes in the lineup instead. For the right price, this could be a nice addition to the outfield/DH rotation allowing Counsell to play matchups to maximize production. I'd like to add some breakdowns of all the players' lefty/righty splits to see how it shakes out, but FanGraphs isn't cooperating with me right now. I might dive into this deeper later!

Thanks Brock! I'm really enjoying the site as I dive into some of its features! I've been messing around with the activity streams feature, which look really cool. One thing I noticed is that if I create multiple streams there doesn't seem to be a way to access your non-default stream. However, if I switch the site's theme to the default stream there is a menu path to get to them (Activity > My Activity Streams). Is this something you can enable on the Brewer Fanatic theme? Or is there another way to access these? Thanks!

As players sign with teams, here's a nice link to stay on top of who's still available: https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker?&sign=unsigned Quick question, I presume for this year you still have to give up a pick to sign a player offered the QO correct? But that's getting axed starting next year with the new CBA?

I seem to be able to post, but it reverted my profile image and display name to old ones and I seem to have a "provisional account" that requires my content to be approved my a moderator? I also can't seem to update my display name.

2022 schedule expected to be released today

I've been in Baltimore for 12 years now and have yet to even have a chance to see the Brewers in Camden Yards. This is 100% going to be my biggest disappointment if they don't get this figured out in time to avoid another round of game cuts. -
Welcome Brock! I've been following Brewerfan.net for 20 years and this community has been such a mainstay of my life over that period of time. Brian and co. really developed a special place here for fans that live for the Brewers a little more than your average Joe and I can't say how much I appreciate that. During many lean years, this site's coverage and discussion of the minor league players that were working their way up through the system not only provided a hope for the future of the franchise but gave me something entertaining to follow beyond the big league team. When the team started competing and opening up their payroll, this site provided a place where really smart, logical, and (for a much larger part than other sites) realistic discussion took place regarding free agency, trade possibilities, and full organizational makeup. And of course, on gamedays, it's always been amazing to have a place to go knowing others were "there with you" watching the team out on the field. I honestly don't know what I would have done with all the hours of my life spent on this site the past 20 years if it didn't exist With that said, I'm looking forward to the site refresh and new features! I'm one who has always been in favor of "like" features. Looking at Twins Daily, I'm also looking forward to an improved mobile experience. And I'm definitely happy to hear that we'll still have our old forums migrated into the new system (please don't miss the "WOAH SOLVDD" forum, very important!). While things will be changing, it's the community here that's always been amazing and I look forward to seeing you all through and beyond this transition!

We've had some teams in the past 30 years that having those extra spots would have made the season a lot more exciting and may have given them incentive to add at the deadline when they didn't. Two additional teams getting in per league doesn't seem like it's enough to make the regular season meaningless to too many extra teams. Maybe the Dodgers? But with their organization and resources they're pretty close to that regardless. But on the flipside, the two extra spots could keep a lot of other teams in it longer and for those cities it will definitely generate some excitement. Just make sure the division winners and the teams with the best records in the leagues have advantages built into the playoffs to keep things interesting and fair for the upper echelon teams as well. -
Interesting story! Looks like it was Chris Columbus and Christmas Vacation: https://www.insider.com/chris-columbus-left-christmas-vacation-chevy-chase-2020-11

For the record, my post using the Trade Simulator site wasn't meant to be a proposal I think makes sense in any regard, it was just to emphasize Ramirez's value. We're not getting him for Hader and spare parts, and as MadThinker points out, we likely aren't even getting him if we throw in our three most valuable prospects on top of Hader in a deal. I'd love to have him, but I don't think there's a trade out there that lands Ramirez in Milwaukee.

I presume that's only because Ashby's already listed in the pen (which doesn't necessarily mean the projections have him at pen-only innings) and you would expect us to dip at least into the 7th SP option at some point, so he helps account for that.

I would love to get Ramirez, but I think you're probably underselling his value quite a bit here. For fun (as I know it's not a definitive source of value) I tried to make this work in the Trade Simulator: In order to get close to equal value, the "low level prospect from Milwaukee" going to the Guardians ending up having to be Frelick, Mitchell, and Turang... That said, I think this thread is a fun idea and exercise while we wait for actual baseball news to pick up again!
