  1. This is code for "we have discussed him and he is not going to make the team." Of course they discussed him but they don't want to trash him in the media. I think you're misinterpreting the quote. It's not asking if he'll make the team, it's asking if he'll still be in the organization if he doesn't make that team. "We have not discussed that" isn't the front office discussing it internally, it's the front office discussing with Zimmerman whether or not he'd still be interested in staying in the organization (ie. in the minors) if he doesn't make the major league roster. At this point they're probably not too concerned about that so they haven't discussed it with him yet. That's my interpretation at least. If anything I think it means they're still considering him for a roster spot if they haven't discussed other options with him yet.
  2. Glad you didn't watch yesterday, lol
  3. This looks like an actual real lineup! We're getting close!
  4. DS has grabbed one of these kinds of arms right at the end of Spring Training a couple of times as well. (Alex Wilson was a March 24th signing, Dan Jennings March 30th, Jared Hughes April 2nd)
  5. I'll hold off on the "ship has sailed" on Urias until he has an extended period of time where he's not hurt, not coming back from COVID, not only 11 at bats into Spring Training, and not only 23 years old still.

  9. This is true, but he is still impressively bad over a large sample size. If you lower the qualifying player floor to 500 PAs, which gives you 359 players over that past 3 seasons, he then ranks 335 in OBP, 333 in SLG, 346 in wOBA, 320 in fWAR, and 347 in wRC+. He's the most "passes the eye test" player ever. He makes flashy plays that make him seem like a better defender than he is and he's had a handful of big hits that give you hope that he can become a decent hitter as well. Despite all that, he's obviously very talented and I actually like the guy, but it seems like we have the "he's young and this could be the year he puts it together" conversation every single year. I don't think he's worth anything in a trade, so it's probably best to still keep him on the roster for now, but it's very hard to argue that SS isn't a spot that we could improve drastically considering the production we've gotten from that spot the past several years. Maybe Arcia finally turns the corner and he's does it himself, but it seems more likely that a newcomer may have a better shot to make a big positive difference (and there's not much room for anyone to be actually worse).
  10. In the last three seasons, of 164 qualified hitters, Arcia ranks 163 in OBP (.284), 162 in SLG (.347), last in wOBA (.272), 162 in fWAR (-0.1) and dead last in wRC+ (65). All Urias needs to do to improve our hitting from SS is not be the worst in baseball.
  11. Not necessarily. I thought that too at first, as it looks like basically year 1 ends up being $13M, which means year 2 is only $3M, but with the $8M buyout in the 3rd year, the 2nd year is really more like $11M. Now year 3 (a mutual option) he'd really only gain $4M, so it'd be hard to envision a situation where that one gets picked up by both sides (he'd have to be bad enough for him to take it, but also good enough for the Brewers to take it...). Anyways, more simply it's really $13M year 1, $11M year 2 (player option), $4M year 3 (mutual option)
  12. Who doesnt want 2 good OBP guys in front of Yelich and Hiura? I see where he's coming from as Cain overall is much better against lefties, but his .350 OBP against righties still looks nice near the top of the lineup. Wong's the guy you might want to slide down against lefties. I could see Wong-Cain-Yeli-Hiura vs RHP and then just starting with Cain-Yeli-Hiura vs LHP. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP:

  14. Between Franco and Gyorko as a final 3B/1B piece, Gyorko makes more sense from a splits, fielding, familiarity, and probably financial standpoint. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP: 2018-20 Fielding at 3B:
  15. This is a good call. I've added him to the tables in the first post of this thread. He's been getting a good look at 3rd so far this Spring. Here's a breakdown of who the Brewers have put at 3B so far: Shaw (2 starts), Reyes (1 start, 2 games off the bench), Arcia (1 start, 1 game off the bench), Mathias (1 start), Lopes (1 game off the bench)
  16. I'm sure this will also delve into some 26th man/5th OF/UT IF discussion as well, but this could start getting interesting. Vogelbach seems like the obvious choice here, but there's questions about fitting someone on the roster that can only (and can only "kind of") play one position. If Shaw makes the team and is primarily playing 3B, is he enough backup considering you wouldn't want him playing there against lefties? And if Shaw doesn't make the roster does that boot the possibility of someone like Fisher making the team as the 5th OF because you need Vogelbach then? And then there's Zach Green, who's started 1 game at 1B and has played 3 additional games at 1B off the bench so far this Spring. Is he a dark horse candidate to make the team as a 1B/3B utility guy? 2018-20 vs. RHP (MLB): 2018-20 vs. LHP (MLB): 2018-20 Fielding as 1B (MLB): 2017-19 (MiLB):
  17. I think this is a misconception. I don't think he's switching gears and prioritizing one thing over another, he's just flexible and adds talent in whatever form is available within his constraints. Which in turn is what makes him a great team builder, he doesn't pigeonhole himself into undervaluing or overvaluing anything specifically. Just do whatever it takes to widen the margin between runs created and runs allowed.
  18. I think they can put together a pretty nice lineup against lefties. Based on the past three years vs. lefties, Hiura is actually the guy that would be in there with the worst stats, but I highly suspect those numbers will improve moving forward, giving them another very strong bat against LHP. 2018-20 vs. LHP:
  19. Does this open the door for Vogelbach to stick as the backup 1B/PH/DH if we only need 4 outfielders? C - Narvaez/Pina 1B - Hiura/Vogelbach 2B - Wong 3B - Shaw/Robertson SS - Urias/Arcia OF - Yelich/Cain/JBJ/Garcia That roster has a lot of flexibility and I like the ability to have Vogelbach as a power option off the bench every game, DH during interleague games, and keeping him on the roster for the future when the DH is likely in place.
  20. 1. How can you say the Brewers don't spend unless you have unrealistic expectations? 2. DS is way more patient than so many of us. And he has gotten rewarded with some nice deals by operating the way he does. 3. Being a Brewer fan now is so much more fun than being a Brewer fan 20 years ago. 2018 January 25th - Trade Brinson, Diaz, Harrison, and Yamamoto for Christian Yelich January 26th - Sign Lorenzo Cain to a 5 year, $80M contract 2019 January 14th - Sign Yasmani Grandal to a 1 year, $18.250M contract (incl. mutual buyout) February 19th - Sign Mike Moustakas to a 1 year, $10M contract (incl. mutual option) 2020 March 6th - Sign Christian Yelich to a 7 year, $188.5M contract extension 2021 February 5th - Sign Kolten Wong to a 2 year, $18M contract March 4th - Sign Jackie Bradley, Jr to a 2 year, $24M contract w/ player option on 2nd year
  21. If you want to keep the L-R-L-R order, if Narvaez can bounce back to his 2018-19 numbers, he could look nice in that 5th spot:
  22. Yeah, he was swinging right through pitches in the strike zone again, which is infuriating, lol, but it is game one and he did smash a complete bomb too. Hopefully he shows improvement on that front as he gets more at bats under his belt this Spring.
