  1. 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP: I hadn't realized (or forgot) Hiura had such dramatic reverse splits to this point. Makes the 1st base possibility with Choo seem a little less necessary as he seems like more of a platoon partner possibility for Garcia. But if he can play first as well then he does pretty much make Vogelbach unnecessary (unless there's a DH). Regardless, he would definitely be another nice bat to throw into the mix!
  2. That's just Turner's agent using the Dodgers to drive up the price for the Brewers. Right? Anyone?
  3. Found this: http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/competitive-balance-tax#:~:text=A%20club%20exceeding%20the%20Competitive,a%2050%20percent%20luxury%20tax. Important parts seems to be: Edit: Sorry didn't see this already posted earlier!
  4. Every 50 PAs he gets a .151 boost in AVG, .087 boost in OBP, .416 boost in SLG, and 127 boost in wRC+. So he'll be hitting .418/.414/.672/1.090 with a 268 wRC+ next year. Or people are overvaluing a 13 game stretch from last season.
  5. So how far do you go to get Turner at this point? He probably should be a 2 year signing for someone. The Brewers might need to go three in order to get him over the Dodgers. It's probably a bad idea, but is anyone here really not excited if they went 3 years with an option for a 4th to pry him away from the Dodgers? How low does the money need to be for that not to be a horrible deal? Does he value the years over the annual amount enough to do something like 3/$30M plus a $6M option of some sort? This would be for his age 36, 37, 38, and possibly 39 seasons, but also keep in mind there is a very, very good chance we'll have the DH for most of those years. What do you think it would take and what's your threshhold before you say, "nah, I'm good with Urias/Robertson"?
  6. Fun possibility: Brewers sign Turner causing a chain reaction of other 3rd basemen needing teams (preferably AL teams) to trade for Bryant and Suarez.
  7. That would be amazing. Might want a little more from the Mets, and might need to give up a little more to the Indians (I don't think they're motivated to move Ramirez at all), but I would be very excited for the season to start.
  8. This is a very fair point. Taking a closer look, while he wasn't a disaster he didn't really bounce back to his "normal" self last year. Interestingly, he actually had better splits against LHP last year too (with the obligatory small sample size caveat): Might still be a consideration with his defense and the fact he's still only 30. So maybe there's still a comeback year in there for him. Probably not the top choice at this point, but if he can be had on the cheap, could be an interesting possibility still.
  9. You have literally one of the best if not the best defensive 2B in baseball and you're going to move him to a position he's never played in his career to keep an absolute defensive butcher at his position? I don't think so. And presumably Wong's plus defense would translate to 3B, a position we currently have a vacancy at. I'm not saying it's what I would do, but would you really be shocked if the organization who moved Moustakas to 2B would do this? For the record, moving Wong to 3B would not even affect his "value" given that, unless I'm mistaken, WAR uses the same positional adjustment for 2B and 3B. His defensive value likely could even increase at 3B. I would think the only way that happens is if they obtain a sure fire first baseman (for instance a Matt Olson) that doesn't allow for the option of Hiura at first. At that point you *might* consider leaving Hiura at 2nd and seeing if Wong can play 3rd. But I would think you're more likely to just find a trade partner for Hiura at that point.
  10. Taking a closer look at the 25 3B listed as free agents still (https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/free-agent-tracker?&pos=3b) 2018-20 Defensively: 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs. LHP: Is Shaw still buddies with anyone on the team? He actually looks like he'd be a nice fit to return defensively and against RHP. Otherwise, Asdrubel Cabrera, Marwin Gonzalez, Brad Miller, Todd Frazier, Renato Nunez, or possibly a Brock Holt retry could all make some sense as guys that can hit RHP a bit and be okay defensively (although I also read Nunez is strictly a DH places even though his stats seem okay-ish - also I'm assuming Jed Lowrie is just broke at this point?).
  11. That certainly would be nice, but I don't know if they have the budget for a better pitcher. Meanwhile, they definitely need to deepen their rotation a little and if nothing else Hill/Anderson provide a little more dependability when they're out there (even if you can also depend on them to be on the shelf for a bit of the season too). I have hopes that Lindblom and Houser take a step up this year and I have no idea what to expect from Lauer, so I'd like to have something that adds a little more stability. 2018-20:
  12. Either one of them would be a nice, stabilizing, veteran pitcher to add to the rotation (when they're not on the IL). They both give you about 5 to 5 1/3 IP per start. I would probably have a slight preference for Hill just because of the K rate, but I liked what I saw from Anderson last year too, so I would probably just go with whoever you can get on a better deal. 2018-20:
  13. I'm in. Trade Hiura+++ for Ramirez, sign Cron and let's get this season started! 2018-20 vs. RHP: 2018-20 vs LHP:
  14. Yep! You can find a couple posts with hit charts including a couple with his home hits overlayed on AmFam Field here: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=40251&start=160
  15. Ha, well that was a super depressing way to respond to a message in the optimism thread! I certainly am hopeful that we get a full year of Cain back this year!
  16. Here's an article from last September mentioning Hiura was getting pregame work in at 1st base: https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/keston-hiura-could-get-time-at-first-base Hopefully that experience at least means Hiura's on board, Counsell saw enough to feel he'd be able to handle it, and the front office isn't jumping into this decision completely blind. That said, who knows if that's actually their preference. I'm guessing they're at least looking into trade possibilities and if they get blown away with an offer that involves Hiura, that would still be on the table as well.
  17. Adding Wong and getting Cain back will be a huge defensive boost that is going to pay dividends on the entire pitching staff! Also, getting Cain back on the field will add an energy and clubhouse presence that was sorely missed last year!
  18. How do you think he will be fine at 1st? He is undersized for the position plus all his other defensive liabilities and you looking at a black hole. So he was a black hole at 2nd base as well? Or no because he was the correct height for the position?
  19. The best part of something like this actually happening would be that no Brewer fan would be able to complain about a slow offseason ever EVER again. Right? I hope?
  20. NL Central 2021 1B ZiPS Projections: Cubs - Anthony Rizzo (118 OPS+, 3.3 WAR) Cardinals - Paul Goldschmidt (117 OPS+, 3.0 WAR) Brewers - Keston Hiura (102 OPS+, 1.8 WAR) Pirates - Colin Moran (99 OPS+, 1.2 WAR) Reds - Joey Votto (92 OPS+, 0.6 WAR) Gotta hope Hiura bounces back and proves these projections a little low, but he's still middle of the pack in the division at 1st.
  21. NL Central 2021 2B ZiPS Projections: Brewers - Kolten Wong (98 OPS+, 2.7 WAR) Cardinals - Tommy Edman (92 OPS+, 2.1 WAR) Pirates - Adam Frazier (96 OPS+, 2.1 WAR) Reds - Mike Moustakas (109 OPS+, 1.9 WAR) Cubs - Nico Hoerner (82 OPS+, 1.2 WAR)
  22. What move could they make that would give them a better roster on paper than LAD? Trade for the LADs... after winning a few MegaMillions and PowerBalls.
  23. I don't think you can count last year... What would he have been in 2019 with his 2019 stats? In 2019 his wRC+ of 140 would have put him 3rd out of 21 qualifiers, just after Alonso (143) and Rizzo (142), and ahead of Freeman (138), Santana (136), and Olson and Bell (both 135).
