Re-thinking this 18 hours later, I'm guessing that we fully expect to protect McKendry. He's younger than Janson Junk and has better numbers than him. Knowing how much we value catching depth, I'm not sure we'd have made that trade unless we think highly of McKendry. This feels somewhat similar to the Mark Mathias and Owen Miller acquisitions in the past. Is McKendry likely to be selected by another organization? Perhaps not, as his K numbers don't jump off the charts and he's sporting a 4.00 ERA. However, we're really lacking young AAA starting pitching at the moment, so we may not risk the 10% chance of him being selected.

With Miley starting for the Brewers tomorrow (and Chafin arriving via trade), along with Woodruff and Anderson appearing in decent form for AAA Nashville today, it looks like we'll probably add 4 players to the 26-man MLB roster shortly: Two tomorrow (Miley, Chafin) - likely for Megill, along with Toro or Perkins Two in a few days (Anderson, Woodruff) - likely for Toro or Perkins, along with maybe Mejia

Thank you @RedStickBrew for the kind words and support! It’s a real pleasure to contribute to the community that’s brought together here. It’s a particularly exciting period now with likely promotions across the system.

At 6’2”, 210 lbs, we’re probably thinking/hoping that Boeve will be able to tap into some power - e.g. 15 homers a year. On Wilken, maybe there’s no need to rush him to High-A Wisconsin.

Transactions: RHP Justin Jarvis (who had been at AAA Nashville) traded to New York Mets for OF/1B Mark Canha RHP Jake Cousins (who had been at AAA Nashville) claimed off waivers by Houston Game Action: Arizona Complex League Action Final: ACL Brewers 7, ACL Rangers 6 Box Score / Game Log Our hitters in Arizona came through, taking the lead for the fourth and final time in an exciting walk-off victory which improves the team’s record to 21-19. 2023 first round draft pick 3B Brock Wilken (2-for-5, HR, 3 RBIs) knocked in the winning run with an RBI single after the team had loaded the bases with nobody out. In equally exciting news, each of Wilken and 2023 second round draft pick DH/INF Mike Boeve (2-for-3, HR, walk, HBP, RBI) hit their first home runs in the Brewers’ system – a solo shot for Boeve to take a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning, then 2-run blast for Wilken in the 5th inning to tie the game 5-5. The top five spots in the lineup came through early and often, with 2B Dylan O’Rae, Boeve, Wilken, SS Juan Baez and 1B Yeison Perez combining on two home runs, a triple, four singles, six RBIs and six runs scored. Despite giving up six runs, the mound work was actually encouraging, save for 17-year old starting RHP Manuel Rodriguez (4 2/3 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 10 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) understandably struggling when pushed to work what ultimately became a four-run 5th inning for the Rangers. Never fear, as 19-year old LHP Anfernny Reyes (3 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 Ks, 1 WP) helped the team escape that 5th inning by stranding two inherited runners via a strikeout, then dominating for three more frames during which the Brewers re-took the lead at 6-5 on an RBI groundout off the bat of C Alejandro Rodriguez (debut game for the undrafted free agent – 1-for-4, RBI). For the Rangers, 2023 fourth overall draft pick OF Wyatt Langford was a one-man wrecking crew, singling in two runs in that 5th inning and scoring shortly thereafter, then hitting a solo homer off RHP Gerson Calzadilla (1 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K; season ERA 0.85) to tie the game 6-6 in the top of the 9th inning. Dominican Summer League Action Final: DSL Brewers-2 Squad 2, DSL Brewers-1 Squad 0 (in 7 innings) Box Score / Game Log The Brewers obviously have strong confidence in second-year, 18-year old RHP Bryan Rivera, giving him his 9th start of the season. On this day, Rivera delivered his best start (5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 Ks; season ERA 4.28), getting the better of 17-year RHP Eric Prado to earn his first official win of 2023. For his part, Prado was respectable in defeat: 4 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks, 1 WP as his season ERA lifted to 1.50. At the plate, DSL Brewers-2 grabbed the game's only runs in the top of the 3rd inning, with C Freider Rojas (1-for-2, SB) singling, stealing second base and scoring on a Filippo Di Turi (1-for-3, RBI; season OPS .800) ground out, then DH/UT Pedro Ibarguen (2-for-3, RBI; season OPS .776) following with an RBI single. Let's hear it for relief pitchers 19-year old RHP Yeferson Tales and 18-year old Lenin Mendez, who combined on five scoreless innings with 5 Ks with no walks. And the catchers both came through defensively, throwing out 4 of 5 attempted basestealers - two each for Rojas and C Yannic Walthier. Finally, center fielder Yophery Rodriguez went 0-for-3 with a K (season OPS .924), but did throw out a runner on at second base. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Enjoy Tuesday’s 9-game MILB set, including doubleheaders for DSL Brewers-2 and the Carolina Mudcats. Promotion and Hug Watches will be in full effect throughout Trade Deadline Day. In Rookie League action on Monday, newly-drafted Brock Wilken and Mike Boeve each hit their first home runs in ACL Brewers’ walk-off win. After experiencing the 2014, 2020 and 2022 trade deadlines, I’m happy to see us acquire two guys who appear to qualify as “bat-first” players. Fangraphs rates Canha’s defense as a negative, so maybe we won’t actually be seeing him much in the outfield. In that case, I assume that Toro will get the boot back down to AAA, since CC obviously isn’t a fan of Toro’s 3B/2B defense. We’ll see.

For the week, the Mudcats and Shuckers went undefeated (12-0). The Timber Rattlers also won their series 4-2, while the Sounds split six games. Transactions: RHP Peter Strzelecki recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville (for injured Julio Teheran) RHP Aidan Maldonado activated from Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list LHP Russell Smith activated from AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Norfolk 6, Nashville 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review the affiliate write-up as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Humbled by Tides in Series Finale With RHP Jason Alexander (4 2/3 IP, 6 R (5 ER), 10 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks, 1 WP) making his second start of the week, the Tides pounced to take leads of 3-0 by the 2nd inning and 6-2 by the 3rd inning in cruising to a Sunday win over our Sounds. Sounds’ Extras: C Brian Navarreto (2-for-3, double, walk, RBI) was the surprise offensive catalyst on this day, singling and scoring in the 3rd inning, walking but stranded at third base in the 4th inning, then doubling in a run in an attempted 9th inning rally. After Navarreto, three Nashville batters then came to the plate representing the potential game-tying or winning run, but all came up empty. The bullpen of LHPs Darrell Thompson, Clayton Andrews and Alex Claudio covered 3 1/3 scoreless innings to give the offense a chance, with Thompson impressing in particular (3 Ks, retired all four batters). Promotion Watch: DH/INF Luis Urias went 0-for-3, but had a sacrifice fly and was hit by a pitch. Keston Hiura had the day off. Outside of Navarreto, the main offense came from 3B Patrick Dorrian (solo homer, two walks) and SS Cam Devanney (double, single). Right fielder Tyler Naquin was ejected in the 4th inning, apparently for arguing over a pitch timer violation. Next week’s outlook: Nashville (54-46) hosts Rays’ affiliate Durham (55-47), with rehabbing Brandon Woodruff expected to make his third and final rehab start in the opening game. Rehabbing 3B/RF Brian Anderson is also expected to play for the Sounds this week. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 14, Birmingham 1 (in 8 2/3 innings) Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers Break Out the Offense and the Brooms in Rain-Shortened Series Finale This game was actually close through 5 ½ innings, with the Shuckers escaping a 5th inning jam with a 2-1 lead before erupting for the 10-run 6th inning to the delight of 2,606 home fans. In the end, eight of the nine Biloxi lineup spots recorded at least one hit, with center fielder Jackson Chourio (2-for-4, HR, walk, 2 RBIs) leading the way. You can see more of the hit parade at the Biloxi Twitter feed. Shuckers’ Extras: Other highlights from the outburst: 2B Felix Valerio (HR, walk, 2 RBIs) smacked a 2-run homer, while each of Zamora (double, walk, HBP, 3 RBIs), 1B Tyler Black (double, walk, HBP, 2 RBIs) and left fielder Tristen Lutz (two singles, walk) reached base three times. Converted starting RHP James Meeker (5 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) was making his second start of the week, but managed to shut down the Barons despite having to extend to 86 pitches after SS Freddy Zamora’s 16th error came with two outs in the top of the 5th inning. Kudos to C Brent Diaz (2nd inning RBI single to give Biloxi a 1-0) for contributing after not playing for much of the season, as well as RHP Zach Vennaro, LHP Nick Bennett and LHP Russell Smith for combining on 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. At last year’s trade deadline, the trio of Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell and Joey Wiemer were promoted to AAA. Will we see the same happen on Tuesday with Black, Chourio and C Jeferson Quero? Next week’s outlook: Biloxi (51-45) heads out to play Marlins’ affiliate Pensacola (57-38). Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 4, Cedar Rapids 0 Box Score / Game Log Via the Rattlers’ website, game details: Jimenez Tosses a Gem to Beat Kernels 21-year old RHP Edwin Jimenez (7 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 BB, 10 Ks) was back in stellar form after a 6-game rough patch, delivering 7 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball against a solid Cedar Rapids ballclub. He threw 62 strikes in 88 pitches in the masterpiece. As usual for Wisconsin home games, but quite unusual across the minor league landscape, we’re blessed to have extensive video highlights and a nearly 22-minute postgame podcast. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Every Wisconsin batter collected at least one hit, but 2B Jose Acosta (1-for-3, HR, walk, 3 RBIs) delivered the one that mattered via a 3-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 4th inning. C Darrien Miller singled twice. RHP Shane Smith (1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) was effective in relief to lower his season ERA to 2.05 in 44 innings pitched between Low-A and High-A ball. The Kernels only had one at-bat with a runner in scoring position – i.e. the last batter of the game, who grounded out. Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin (42-52) will bus to face Cubs’ affiliate South Bend (43-52), with LHP Nate Peterson expected to start the first game of the series. No Pre-Game Media Notes Available Final: Columbia 3, Carolina 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Carolina Drops the Final Game of the Series 3-1 in Columbia 22-year RHP Will Childers (6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 7 Ks; season ERA dropped to 5.50) didn’t start, but still produced his best outing of the year, blanking Columbia for six consecutive innings to give the Mudcats’ hitters a chance to come back. Unfortunately, the offense never quite arrived on this day. Mudcats’ Extras: Dependable contributors INF Luke Adams and OF Luis Lara had the day off, so we’ll dream about their possible promotion to High-A ball. Without them, no Mudcat reached base twice, the team had only one extra-base hit (a double by 2B Daniel Guilarte) and the last 12 Carolina batters went down in order. 2022 14th round draft pick RHP Aidan Maldonado (1 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) returned from injury for his first game action in 40 days. Unfortunately, the Fireflies jumped on him with five of the first six batters collecting hits in a 3-run first inning, but very well done to Maldonado in striking out three of the last four batters he faced. Next week’s outlook: Carolina (51-41) travels to face Astros’ affiliate Fayetteville (43-52) in a 7-game series, starting with a doubleheader on Tuesday. Dominican Summer League All-Star Game Final: DSL AL All-Stars 4, DSL NL All-Stars 3 Box Score / Game Log A whopping 70 players participated in the DSL All-Star game, representing 50 teams in the league. Each of DSL Brewers-1 and DSL Brewers-2 had one representative: 17-year old INF Filippo Di Turi has started 22 games at shortstop and 8 games at second base in his Brewers’ career, but was sent out to play third base in this game. The result: a throwing error on the second play of the game, which was the only ball hit to him. This helped lead to three unearned runs as the AL built an early 3-0 lead. Di Turi also grounded out in his only plate appearance. 17-year old OF Yophery Rodriguez entered the game in the 4th inning, playing center field for three innings. He gunned down the lead runner at third base to keep the game 3-1 in top of the 5th inning, then singled in a run in his only plate appearance to reduce the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom half. The NL squad stranded 11 baserunners in the game, including five in the final three innings. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. In addition to the Milwaukee Brewers playing in Washington, DC at 6:05 CST, three minor league squads are in action on Monday: DSL Brewers 1 plays DSL Brewers 2 at 10:00am CST, while the ACL Brewers play the ACL Rangers at 8:00pm CST. Edwin Jimenez threw no-hit ball for seven innings in Wisconsin’s series-clinching win. Jackson Chourio connected on his 16th homer in a 14-run Biloxi feast. Great write-up as always, @Mass Haas From that DSL All-Star game link, it seems INF Filippo Di Turi is getting a start at 3rd base. Gotta believe we’ll see OF Yophery Rodriguez. Also deserving are INF/OF Demetrio Nadal and OF Brian Sanchez. Pitcher selection is usually unpredictable, based more on who happens to be available. That said, Eric Prado, Enniel Cortez, Melvin Hernandez, Anthony Flores, Aneuris Rodriguez, Gabriel Colmenarez and Jose Meneses are all having solid seasons.

Keston Hiura has a .984 OPS in Nashville
Ro Mueller replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The offseason plan, even if it was flawed, was for Hiura to make the Opening Day MLB roster, splitting DH duties with Winker. But Hiura hit .156 in spring training and more importantly looked totally lost while K’ing 15 times in 32 ABs. So the team grudgingly went with Voit instead. Then, as we often do with players (see Frelick, Almonte and Mathias last year), we watched him tear it up in AAA in April instead of making the gutsy early call to replace Voit, Winker or someone else. We did the exact same thing with Singleton in May, watching him launch 7 homers in 17 games and only reluctantly promoting him in June after Winker got hurt. And now did the same thing with Toro this month, watching him tear it up in AAA but not promoting him even when the MLB player at his natural position (Brian Anderson - 3B) went down. -

Robert Moore delivered the walk-off heroics for Wisconsin. Carlos F. Rodriguez and Jackson Chourio were terrific in Biloxi’s victory. Jose Sibrian had a grand slam and solo shot in Carolina’s win, while Nashville struggled. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: INF Jhonny Severino of ACL Brewers traded to Pittsburgh for 1B Carlos Santana RHP Trevor Megill optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers RHP Pedro Fernandez activated by AAA Nashville from the Development List C Brent Diaz assigned to AA Biloxi from AAA Nashville C Nick Kahle placed on AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list RHP Wilfredo Cordero activated from DSL Brewers-1's reserve list Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Norfolk 5, Nashville 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review the affiliate write-up as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Drop Thursday Matinee To Tides The Sounds were unable to build on an early 3-0 lead, failing to advance any runner past second base after the 1st inning. The loss reduces Nashville’s lead to two games to one in this highly competitive series in Norfolk. 3B Luis Urias (2-for-3, 2 walks) led off and remains hot, reaching base four times as he tries to earn his way back to the Show. He singled and scored in the 1st inning, walked to lead off the 2nd inning, walked to start the 7th inning and singled with two outs in the 9th inning. Sounds’ Extras: Starting LHP Robert Gasser (5 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks) was hit early (a double and four singles in first two innings), but limited the damage to two runs. Things got hairy again with three straight walks (on 12 consecutive balls) with two outs in the bottom of the 5th inning, but he escaped with a popout for a respectable outing. LHP Ethan Small (2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K) was less fortunate, conceding solo home runs to two of the first four batters he faced and taking the loss on this day. However, his season ERA remains a respectable 3.45, with 38 Ks in 31 1/3 innings pitched, suggesting that hope is not lost. DH Keston Hiura (0-for-4, 2 Ks) did not help his promotion case, but 24-year old switch-hitting left fielder Noah Campbell (2-for-3, double, walk, RBI) likely boosted his own case for more AAA playing time. Friday’s outlook: RHP Janson Junk (4.57 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 5.7 K/9 in 86 2/3 IP) gets the ball for his 17th start (18th appearance). Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 7, Birmingham 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Rodriguez, Chourio, Warren Lead Shuckers to 7-1 Win Over Barons Despite dealing with a tight strike zone and an error early, which contributed to five batters reaching base in the first two innings, starting RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (5 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 8 Ks) was dominant once again. Offensively, center field phenom Jackson Chourio led the way as he demonstrates a more patient approach at the plate: Walking and scoring in the 1st inning to tie the game 1-1 Blasting his 15th homer, a solo shot in the 4th inning to push the lead to 4-1 Walking and scoring again in the 4th inning as the lead grew to 7-1 Chourio’s season BB/K rate is now 29/74, but he has 7 walks and 8 Ks in 79 July plate appearances. Shuckers’ Extras: INF Tyler Black led off and made his first career start at first base, although he had a rare 0-for-5 day at the plate, with one K. Time will tell whether this is part of a positional transition or if we’re simply demonstrating Black’s versatility for 29 other MLB clubs right before the trade deadline. 3B Zavier Warren, left fielder Isaac Collins and C Wes Clarke picked up the slack for Black, combining on a 4-for-9 day with 3 walks and 4 RBIs. Still just 21 years old, Rodriguez retired the final ten batters he faced in order and claimed the Southern League’s top spot in strikeouts (114 Ks in 85 1/3 IP). Would it be worth pushing him up to AAA later this year? The bullpen of RHPs Zach Vennaro and Max Lazar were solid over four scoreless innings. 24-year old Lazar, who will be a minor league free agent at season’s end, dropped his season ERA to 3.18 in 54 2/3 innings pitched. Friday’s outlook: 21-year old RHP Jacob Misiorowski (2.98 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 13.1 K/9 in 54 1/3 IP) is set for his second start in AA ball, looking for more success than his first outing (4 IP, 4 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 2 HBP, 5 Ks). Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 4, Cedar Rapids 3 (in 10 innings) Box Score / Game Log Via the Rattlers’ website, game details: Wisconsin Wins With Moore The Timber Rattlers are not backing down against the powerhouse Kernels (57-36), although of course it helped to have MLB All-Star Brandon Woodruff pitch the first four innings of the game. The victory gives Wisconsin a 2-1 advantage in this home series. Stealing the show was 2B Robert Moore (2-for-4, HR, walk, 3 RBIs), who homered to give Wisconsin a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, then smacked the first pitch he saw with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to deliver the walk-off 2-run single. As always for home games, be sure to enjoy extensive video highlights from Wisconsin’s media team, as well as the 27-minute Mehring-Lobner podcast. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: In his second rehab start, Woodruff (4 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks, 1 WP) threw 52 pitches (36 strikes), retiring the first six batters before conceding a double and three singles over the next two innings. 21-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle (5 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 7 Ks) followed Woodruff to deliver his best performance of the season, with only one batter reaching base (via an error to lead off the 9th inning) in his final three innings. Despite allowing the first two batters to reach base (single, walk) in the top of the 10th inning, RHP Tanner Shears bore down to strike out the next two and induce a fly out to only allow the ghost runner to score. Mr. Woodruff also tells us what it’s like playing for the Timber Rattlers: Friday’s outlook: RHP Tyler Woessner (3.80 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in 87 2/3 IP) is scheduled to make his 18th start of the season. No Pre-Game Media Notes Available Final: Carolina 11, Columbia 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Sibrian Hits Grand Slam in the 9th as Mudcats Roll in an 11-2 Win While C Jose Sibrian (4-for-5, 2 HRs, 5 RBIs) deservedly gets the plaudits, the game was largely won earlier on the back of: Timely hitting from four different Mudcats to build a 6-2 lead by the 6th inning; Another respectable start from 20-year old RHP Patricio Aquino (5 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 3 BB, 2 Ks); and RHP Jesus Rivero coming in with two-on, nobody out in the bottom of the 6th inning to strand the inherited runners. Despite being a road game, we’re blessed to have a ton of offensive highlights at the Mudcats Twitter feed, though you can enjoy the grand slam right here: Mudcats’ Extras: 2B Jadher Areinamo (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, SF, SB) did the early work, knocking in runs in the 2nd and 4th innings for an early 2-0 lead, with Kay-Lan Nicasia (2-for-4, walk, 2 RBIs, 2 SBs) also grabbing two RBIs on a 6th inning single before Sibrian’s late blasts. In just his eight game of the season and fifth game in Low-A ball, 20-year old Rivero (4 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 7 Ks) truly showed off his potential with four dominant innings of work, mixing heat and junk as my colleague @JosephZarr captured well in the daily forum. In his 8th season in the organization, 24-year old Sibrian is proving to be far more than just a veteran presence, lifting his season OPS to .898 with this two-homer game. He also threw out both attempted basestealers. Friday’s outlook: RHP Will Rudy (3.73 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 8.0 K/9 in 62 2/3 IP) will try to lead Carolina to a clinching fourth straight victory in Columbia. Arizona Complex League Action Final: ACL Reds 16, ACL Brewers 7 Box Score / Game Log In a reversion to previous form, pitchers were run ragged (13 hits, 10 walks, 5 hit-by-pitches) and fielders were of limited help (3 errors, 1 passed ball, but also turned 3 double plays), as the ACL Brewers fell to 18-18 on the season. 2023 first round draft pick 3B Brock Wilken led the offensive charge, tripling and scoring in the 1st inning, then driving in two runs with a single in the 4th inning to momentarily cut the deficit to 6-4. None of rehabbing LHP Brian Fitzpatrick, RHP Darling Solano or Felipe De Los Santos were effective in this game, but at least RHP Edrian Robinson pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 9.45. The bright side was of course the offense, which knocked out 15 hits. Every spot in the lineup collected at least one hit, led by Wilken (3-for-4, triple, walk, 2 RBIs), 2B Dylan O’Rae (3-for-3, 2 walks, SB) and C Satchell Norman (2-for-3, double, 2 walks, RBI, SB). DH/3B Johan Barrios also connected on his first home run of 2023. 19-year old O’Rae now has an unbelievable season slash of .354 AVG / .515 OBP / .414 SLG in 136 plate appearances, with 24 stolen bases in 25 opportunities. Can we promote this young man to Carolina please? Dominican Summer League Action Continuation Game (from top of 5th inning) Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 3, DSL Guardians Red 1 (in 8 1/2 innings) Box Score / Game Log DSL Brewers-1 and DSL Guardians Red picked up where they paused their game 10 days earlier, with the Uno squad trailing 1-0 in the top of the 5th inning but having the bases loaded with 1 out. Unfortunately, a K and pop out ended that opportunity. 18-year old RHP Emir Suarez (3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks, 1 balk) then worked three scoreless innings, with the Crew tying the game in the 7th inning on a 2B Luiyin Alastre RBI single, then grabbing a 3-1 lead in the top of the 8th inning on an double from SS Kevin Ereu and an RBI single by left fielder Argenis Aparicio. Unfortunately, a 33-minute rain delay followed, so Suarez exited and nerves spiked. But 20-year old RHP Wilfredo Cordero (recently signed after being released by the Rangers) pitched a scoreless 8th inning in his Brewers’ debut. Despite the weather, the teams attempted to play the 9th inning as well, with the Guardians loading the bases with nobody out against RHP Yonawil Florimon (two singles, walk) before the Brewers were luckily saved by game-ending rain. Whew! Normally-awesome center fielder Yophery Rodriguez started the day 0-for-2 and ended it 0-for-5, but did not strike out. Ereu was 2-for-5 and Aparicio 1-for-3 with a walk in the game, while C Yannic Walthier added a single and two walks. Regularly Scheduled Game (Postponed): DSL Brewers #1 Squad vs. DSL Guardians Red This game was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on August 11. Postponed: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 1, DSL Braves 1 (halted in top of 3rd inning) Box Score / Game Log Rain stopped this game early, with the teams expected to make it up as part of an August 3rd doubleheader. Before the postponement, 2B Filippo Di Turi had a double and scored on a single by center fielder Peter Ibarguen. Starting RHP Melvin Hernandez conceded a run in 2 innings without yielding a hit or walk (an HBP came around to score). We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. I assume Hiura’s crowding the plate moreso of late: 10 HBPs over his last 20 games, not including yesterday’s when he was hit, the umpire failed to call it and insult was added by being ejected from the game.
