  1. I was an 8th grader at St. Adalbert's in South Milwaukee when Jesse Orosco's young son (2nd grade at the time) attended. He would pick his son up after school and a crowd of kids would wait for autographs. He drove a nice Benz and the funny thing is for the 1/2 year his kid attended the school, he was the only one to not abide by the school dress code (blue pants white polo). I was a Bucks ball boy in high school (so I have numerous encounters with NBA players) and worked in the infamous Root Beer Barrels you all see at the lakefront festivals. The players knew me well and one day I was sitting in my cramped barrel a guy snuck up, grabbed the brim of my hat, squeezed it tightly so I couldn't see and said in a stern voice "give me all yo money!" I was startled and looked up to Ray Allen. He was wearing a big farmers hat and was with a nice looking woman. I gave them each a free soda. Before he left he looked at me and said "watch your back." Speaking of downtown establishments, in Eve I saw Ruben Patterson, Gilbert Brown, and stood next to Charlie Villanueva when admiring women were trying to dance with him. He seemed happy to oblige with whatever came his way.
  2. Ned gave Riske the ol' pat on the back and 'good job'. I haven't seen a more undeserving pat in my life.
  3. If I were Nedly I'd make this one of those rare 2 inning close deals for Salomon.
  4. Soup lives in the LA area and probably has many distractions to deal with. He's a soft tosser anyways so its usually a 50-50 chance the other team will be sitting dead red on him all day long.
  5. Huh....I didn't hear "Don't Stop Believin'" after the final out was recorded. That right there is music to my ears.
  6. I want to go up to the PA system music operator and punch him in the mouth for playing "Don't Stop Believing" in between every single thing that happens in Dodger Stadium. Joe Torre could fart on his walk to the mound to make a pitching change and they'd play "Don't Stop Believing" for him.
  7. What was that, thablingster? Care to refine your opinion? Good call, Ned Yost. Braun says it's just like riding a bike...
  8. Cubbies manufacture a tying run 7-7. What a shock!
  9. crewcrazy...that's the same appeasing mentality that ultimately ruins teams and eventually leads to players making themselves bigger than the team. Don't you think the Carolina Panthers think that they're "hurting" themselves by sitting Steve Smith for the first two games of the regular season? Yes. And individual games mean more in football than baseball. The point was they were going to enact some discipline and show the rest of the team that behavior like that is unacceptable. Exactly the opposite mentality of your Milwaukee Brewers and Ned Yost.
  10. What infuriates me is Prince playing today. We all knew Ned was a "player's manager" but I now know that he lets the players manage him. To have not suspended him at least 1 game sets a prescedent to the team that no matter what you do as a detriment to the team, you'll receive from your manager 100% support in his post-game press conference and can expect to hit right back where you were the day before in that night's lineup. This is the type of stuff that makes me believe Ned will not manage this team in 2009. If we miss the playoffs after yet another second half collapse and acquiring CC, Attanasio will be cleaning house and Ned & all of his cronies will be shown the door.
  11. Some good points, Glennron. My point is you see the Cubs do this all the time and are just a clutch team. Heck, we saw it firsthand against us last week. They're just a better baseball team than the Brewers. Any way you slice it, they have us overmatched. Harden basically nullified anything we gained in the CC deal.
  12. Watching the Cubs game today has made me realize the Brewers are easily a few tiers below this team. The WAY they score runs is what separates them from us. Their high batting averages, OBP's, and the way they execute with runners in scoring position and utlize the bunt to score runs playing small ball is awesome. They are beating Wandy's Astros 6-1 in the 3rd and I found it very telling to see the inning's play-by-play in how they scored 4 2nd inning runs... Bottom 2nd: Chi Cubs - H. Blanco doubled to left - R. Harden reached on bunt single to pitcher, H. Blanco to third - A. Soriano singled to left, H. Blanco scored, R. Harden to second - R. Theriot popped bunt out to pitcher - D. Lee singled to right, R. Harden to third, A. Soriano to second - A. Ramirez walked, R. Harden scored, A. Soriano to third, D. Lee to second - R. Johnson hit sacrifice fly to deep center, A. Soriano scored - M. DeRosa singled to left, D. Lee scored, A. Ramirez to second - K. Fukudome flied out to deep left Timely hitting, executing bunts, taking WALKS, hitting sacrifice flys to score runs, and not relying on hitting even one HR in the process. Very impressive and definitely an approach we do not take.
  13. Well the pitching matchups don't favor us either of the next 2 games either. Wouldn't be the least surprised to see a sweep from this last place team. Actually, at this point, I would be surprised if we DIDN'T get swept.
  14. They just asked Soriano on the Cubs Comcast feed: "Are you surprised to see the Brewers cracking under pressure?"
  15. "Thanks for the extra cash, Chicago"? Ha! Probably. Helping to fund our CC sweepstakes drive after the season ends.
  16. The 'Let's go Cubbies" chants are getting louder and louder. It was nice to see Mark Attanasio make the trip east to watch his ballclub lay 3 eggs with a possible 4th to come tomorrow. I wonder what he is thinking...
  17. Yost is a very reactionary manager. He does not anticipate what 'could happen' rather he sees what does happen and is basically forced to react. Case in point...leaving Sheets in to get rocked yesterday for a string of 50 hits in a row...a few games back allowing Suppan to throw beyond what he should have because he was 'one pitch away" from ending the inning...and now Shouse getting rocked and throwing wildly. Allowing him to stay in for a slew of righties and walk in one of them. This team won't win jack with him as manager.
  18. Does Yost not understand the concept of a SITUATIONAL left hander?? No excuse for Shouse to be facing right handed batters.
  19. Hey rluzinski good to see you too! All the number crunching you can do til your brains fall out doesn't help the Brewers OBP this year does it?
  20. Corey going for the Golden Sombrero tonight!! Billy Hall may very well join him.
  21. It will be mildly amusing to see tomorrow's trade deadline pass without Melvin making another move. Basically he's saying, okay we're a good team...obviously not as good as the Cubs, and we're happy to just proceed forth to see if we might give this wild card thing a shot.
  22. What is everyone so worked up about? The Brewers clearly are overmatched by this team. You know the difference between the Brewers and the Cubs??? They don't have 1 player in their lineup hitting under .230. We have 3 on most nights (save Rickie Weeks today). Their OBP kills us and their pitching (bullpen and starters) is far superior. How could someone say we have the better team?
  23. Good points. I did not know that. If I lived near San Diego and had my hefty-priced country club membership paid in full by someone else, I'd probably be inclined to stay settled too.
  24. Why wouldn't Maddux be "motivated" to waive his no-trade clause to come to Milwaukee? I see a few reasons why he would be motivated... 1) Legit shot at playoffs and current Wild Card holding team 2) Relationships with Yost and Maddux make move a comfortable one 3) Makes up the best rotation in the NL with Sabathia, Sheets, Parra, Maddux, and Suppan. Plus, you dangle Gwynn Jr. out there and I think you'll get them to bite.
