  1. I'm surprised to find how much this team can still irritate me.
  2. I would call Counsell over Gamel in September inexplicable, perhaps not truly fireable. Hardy over Escobar I can understand somewhat more since they're looking to move JJ (presumably) this off-season. I'm much more upset/confused with DM for how he handled that hot mess.
  3. This series really reminds me of getting swept by the Cubs in September 2003 at Miller Park...the Cubs were clearly a team on the march to bigger things and the Brewers were just playing like muck, trudging towards to the end of the line.
  4. Yeah, I haven't really heard many of the Giants players say anything--Zito even called it "pretty creative" on Rome yesterday morning, although he said he didn't love being on the other side of it (he also wasn't a fan of the untuck, which I thought was weird, although he said he thinks the Brewers should "go all the way naked with it" so he can't be that bothered). Locally, it was only cranks like Ralph Barbieri and Knapp and unfortunately Mike Krukow complaing about it, along with Rome (and who knows who else). If you look on the comments of that Knapp column, even the Giants fans didn't seem that bothered by it--more annoyed that it's still a story. I think if the Giants weren't in a playoff race and really really needed that win, this would have been no story.
  5. I'll be pretty surprised if Macha gets fired, especially over something like not starting Gamel in June; I'll be less surprised if he steps down. He just doesn't seem to be enjoying himself and doesn't have a big connection to the area or the organization, and at his age would probably be more interested in spending time with his grandkids than dealing with the pitching staff he was provided with and the circus sideshow atmosphere that seems to envelop this team these days.
  6. Jim Rome and SF Bay Area media have been beating the drum about this the last couple days.
  7. Actually Grand Canyon National Park is just east of Las Vegas. It is about 200 miles east of Vegas. It is somewhat out of the way but I believe if you take I80 W and then take US 191 south you would run into the Grand Canyon National Park. Then it is only another 300 miles to Las Vegas. If you do that it adds about 5 hours onto the trip than driving straight to Vegas.Well, which is about what most consider half a day's drive, without adding in the time spent at the Grand Canyon itself. It was a fair point, I thought. Anyway, while we're on the subject (sort of), Red Rocks, just outside LV, is a fantastic diversion for those on a too-long weekend there who are sick of spending money, getting drunk, or the casino atmosphere.
  8. Yadier Molina's on-field temper tantrum and absolutely dogging it down the 1st base line on that sac in the 8th tonight was far more "disrespectful to the game" to me than any silly non-taunting celebration.
  9. I just wish they could have done that early in the Top of the 8th so I didn't have to delay me and my wife's dinner by an hour (thanks Claudi-slow) to get the gut-jab (I won't call it a true punch since this season's done and over).
  10. I for one like Macha as a personality--steady as she goes; he hasn't made me cringe once this year, which is a change from the last few years. I also believe that Kendall batting in key situations and a few non-bunt calls here and there did not create this crummy season and as such aren't fireable offenses. Now, not being on the "same page" with his players may be, but I get the feeling that if there is a schism (as it were), it's something we might not be entirely aware of--there's a lot of amateur Freuds regarding this topic, it seems. Edit: I do agree that I'd really like to see Randolph back next year, although I think the only way that happens is if Macha is let go. I just don't see it; I think there were too many variables out of Macha's control to make him the scapegoat.
  11. I haven't heard anyone but Ron Wotus upset about it, not Bay Area media, not anyone on the Giants, even the Giants fans seemed semi-amused by it. They've got better stuff to worry about, really. Silly. The only really indefensible sideshow thing the Brewers have done this year in my mind was Prince running through Dodger Stadium to confront Mota.
  12. You could see Prince pointing at the dugout, waving his finger as he rounded first He did the same kinda pose when they walked off against the Giants earlier in the year
  13. First line of the Giants' post-game show..."Well, if anything, you have to give props to the Brewers choreography department. That was about the only thing to smile about if you're a Giants fan today."
  14. That walkoff celebration was hilarious and will lead to an inevitablke plunking next season
  15. I left the house to go for a run after that triple play in the 6th since I figured that would be the highlight...ran about 5 1/2 miles from the Ferry Building to Ft. Point by the Golden Gate Bridge, and when I walked past a bar on my way home, I saw a TV on inside and thought, "Man, is that the Brewers still on? I didn't run that fast" Wish they would've ended it there...although I never thought at the beginning of the season I'd see a Gerut-Patterson-Lopez-Bourgeois inning in the 11th inning of a September game that the Giants of the two teams desperately need
  16. They had a banner ad about "It's time to teach the Giants a lesson" last week, too, so I think it's one-size-fits-all (I guess they gave up on puns).
  17. I'll fight you! That said, I have no idea what they're charging up there for their available products. It may well be a rip-off. I do suspect a lot of this is regionalism all the same. For instance, I can't imagine ranking Lagunitas below what I've drank from Hale's here or in Seattle, but I haven't drank anything else on EDR's list (although I'm sure that speaks to our arguments both ways).
  18. North Coast and Lagunitas are a lot better than just OK in my book. You do seem to have an odd anti-California beers bent (I understand us Golden Staters aren't too popular up there in general!), truth be told, but you also drink a lot more beer than I do, so I'll grant you that.
  19. I'd be apt to agree with you if it wasn't a 7 year contract--that's a pretty lengthy wage freeze--think of the economy in 1992 versus 1999 for instance. Anyway. That said, whoever said Stillwater is most likely just a stepping stone to a Third World plant is dead on.
  20. Neglecting a statement like "the union just doesn't work," (I seriously don't even know where to start there), I'm curious how little are you willing to be paid just to have a job.
  21. I know it was meaningless, but that was a really nice comeback win, especially striking out Pujols as the walkoff winning run. Avoided the sweep at the least. (And at the top of the game, out of anger in the 1st I demanded Davey Nelson tell me why on Earth I should follow this team the rest of the way!)
  22. I'm bitter; I really hate these Cardinals, the organization, and even a good chunk of their fans. Nice town though (no blue font).
  23. Not to turn this into a Macha thread, but at the same time, people complain about him running Yo into the ground. That said, again, I'm not sure why Hardy is starting tonight (or the next few weeks) or why Escobar isn't. They both need ABs, as it were. Again, if they were gonna go over the 20 days anyway, why on Earth are they both on the same team right now when there's still a week to go in Nashville? I'm much more confused/angry at DM than Macha.
  24. I could understand "showcasing" (as it were, the die have pretty much been cast) Hardy for a deal if he had come up from Nashville after the 7th when AAA season ends, and would have no problem getting him ABs for a week or so (or longer, if he heats up) after then to do so. But bringing him up now is perplexing. No one benefits.
  25. I'm not necessarily sold that Macha is managing for his job. I do think there could be something to him preferring veterans. Because starting him right now just doesn't make sense otherwise. But again, bringing up Hardy today didn't make any anyway. Man, this handbasket is kinda crowded, isn't it?!?
