  1. I'll be OK if he pitches similarly to his Minnesota start (4R, 5.2 IP); that would give the Brewers at least a chance to win. Problem is his last two road starts have been unmitigated disasters. Wrigley you can almost accept it with that park and those bats...but at Pittsburgh? We'll see I guess.
  2. Well, no offense, but it's a moot point now. They didn't really "throw in the towel" in my opinion since they didn't sell at the deadline (although depending on where they're at during the waiver period they might sell and I wouldn't be against it depending on the situation. The lack of a big deal because the pieces the seller wanted the Brewers just didn't have also doesn't count as throwing in the towel to me. I certainly don't think the Brewers everyday players are going to let their effort down at this point although I'm sure they're disappointed we couldn't land that big fish for the rotation just like we are. Edit: I basically totally misread your post...mea culpa.
  3. I've heard nothing but horrible things about driving in and especially driving out (think Alpine Valley), so I'd take the concierge's advice--personally I haven't been down to LA for one since I've lived out there so I can't give you any personal advice. For all the cracks about Wrigley, there was nothing like just getting on a train and getting dropped off right next to a ballpark.
  4. Well, I just got my tickets for tomorrow night on Stub Hub...Section 110 behind the Brewers' dugout (although we'll be in row 32, 24 rows behind the dugout itself--oh well, for the price, which was pretty cheap, I'll take it). I'll be there in a ball-and-glove hat and a Brewerfan t-shirt so say Hi if you see me. I can't believe all the complaining I did this morning about Mike Burns pitching tomorrow and I spontaneously decided to go see it live http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  5. I've got a black hat with a baroque-looking orange "S" from the high school my Grandpa coaches for (Sarasota High) that I'll occassionally wear to Giants games here to show my vague support for the home team but not betray the Crew! As insane as that is, I won't wear it if a Giants' win will neagtively affect the Brewers--yes I need therapy.
  6. I thought he was close, but this is his agent talking...his agent!: "Frankly I am flabbergasted that the White Sox would want to make this deal with him in his physical condition," Axelrod said.
  7. What this season needs is a good Irish wake. The Two-Fisted Slobber and Bernie Brewer going on drunken crying jags in each other's arms. I'll be in San Diego this weekend (and in Milwaukee on the 13th) so I'll see what I can do
  8. Thanks SD. Looks like we'll only be able to make tomorrow night's game so we'll probably end up taking your advice.
  9. 3:35pm: USA Today's Bob Nightengale, via Twitter, says the White Sox confirmed they just got Peavy. Brock agrees - Peavy approved the trade this time.
  10. Well, this was unexpected. Again though, it appears our dearth of tradeable young pitching hurt any chance we had to get in here. But that's the rub of course. You gotta love the White Sox answering Washburn-to-Tigers with Peavy, regardless of the DL time.
  11. Apparently the Reds got single A catcher Chase Weems in he deal.
  12. I can't even imagine. Did someone hack Heyman's account again?
  13. ESPN is saying Alonso is not part of the deal; Josh Roenicke, and Zach Stewart instead
  14. Yeah, I couldn't find a cheap flight worth my while, but it looks like my wife and I might make the 7 hour drive down from SF tomorrow. What sold her was the potential of some SoCal sun and beach time Sunday morning--it's fog season up here right now and rather dreary.
  15. Link Glad to see Brewer Killer Encarnacion gone, but the Reds will have Rolen for next year too and always seem right around the corner. No word on who the Yankees are giving up yet
  16. Aha, you've just opened a whole new world for me.
  17. I didn't think this scenario was particularly outlandish initially to be honest. But with Burns/Vargas/Soup/Villard/Good-bad-Good-bad Looper/ Good-bad-Good-bad Manny/Who knows Bush apparently constituing 80% of the rotation the rest of the way I have my doubts firmly entrenched.
  18. This is the crux of it right here. Well, to be fair, Vargas didn't fit then. There wasn't a place for him. There's a place now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  19. I was thinking of taking a last minute flight down to SD Sunday but am not 100%.
  20. Personally, I'm not mad, and to me it's not about Rottino-for-Vargas, it's more just frustration with the whole thing--the injuries, the underachievment, the rotation (and organizational pitching) as it was constituted to begin with, the trade market this year as it fits the Brewers and their situation: "So this is what it's come to." Yeah, we knew before that this is what it's come to, but to see it materialize is still cause for bitter laughter.

Personally, I'm not mad, and to me it's not about Rottino-for-Vargas, it's more just frustration with the whole thing-the injuries, the underachievement, the rotation and organizational pitching as it was constituted, the trade market this season as it pertains to the Brewers' needs and abilities: "So this is what it's come to." Yeah, we knew before that this is what it's come to, but to see it materialize is still cause for bitter laughter.
  22. "I think I'm just gonna chillax this weekend with some Bud Light Limes, listen to some Black Eyed Peas and 3OH!3, and watch Mike Burns and Claudio Vargas start for my favorite baseball team."
  23. Funny, I've got a few Dodger fan friends too, and they're all like us: underwhelmed at best. For different reasons of course--they're waiting and hoping for a Halladay deal. For what it's worth, none of them had anything particularly bad (or good) to say about him. Talk about the ultimate indifferent deal for them--Vargas was probably gone with Sherrill coming in.
