  1. I'm gonna guess that Yeli didn't ring the bell because he's not quite satisfied with his performance. I said "guess."
  2. Banning the shift is total absolutely totally completely 100% garbage. Really. Let the game evolve more naturally. NOW back to this game: RBI Kestie!
  3. I had a similar experience as the Atlanta Falcons were killing my Saints (Abomination!) Their #45 -a guy from New Orleans- was having a great game, INT, big plays, etc., We happened to be sitting in front of his family, So it was some consolation to share their joy at seeing their son/brother/nephew/cousin/grandson having a great day. (But losing to Atlanta always $uk$.)
  4. This is the real reason for watching these wonderfully silly games we call sports.
  5. I was trying to listen to the Brewers' game. But instead I got some team that's getting hits and scoring runs. I'll pretend it's the Brewers and take it.
  6. You can bet that if we hit one it will be a solo?
  7. I cannot explain why I like this inanity. Let's JUST WIN A GAME to stop the insanity.
  8. I have only coached girls softball, so there. But this rule is sure in all forms of the game: whoever scores the most runs will win the game every time. If your pitching is good, like ours mostly is, it's absurd and impossible to try to hit 5-run homers with nobody on base. A run scored on a single, stolen base, sac bunt or ground out, plus a sac fly or RBI groundout counts exactly the same as a 453 foot homer. The Brewers simply don't play solid fundamental baseball most of the time. Willie Adames: I'm looking at you and your goofy bend-backwards and swing for the fences useless at bats. Who flipping cares if you hit a grand slam when we're up by 10!? bughghghghgh!
  9. I agree. But it's all we've got. And sometimes that's enough. Baseball is weird.
  10. The clear plain obvious answer to the original question is YES!!!! Offensive success is based on RUNS SCORED. It's timing and placement above all else. Success is not based on the speed of balls leaving the bat (especially when they are hit hard at the defense). Nor is it based on stats that give credit for hits that do not lead to runs (whether runs scored or RBI), and HR's are always good, but they're not significant when they're a solo shots while we're trailing by 6. Under any of these "contextual" factors, our offense FAILS. And when you lose 2-1 while your pitcher looks great, where else can you put the blame?
  11. OK. "could" happen. But I had to flinch at (1) the idea of an easy schedule when beating sub-.500 teams hasn't been that easy so far, and (2) the euphemism of "inconsistent" offense when "consistently sub-par" offense would seem more accurate. But I'd love to be wrong and to eat these words.

  13. Theoretically possible, But only theoretically. I wish for you to be right. But whoever does the ESPN baseball power ranking blurbs summed it up well: The Brewers are now in a "free fall." They need to wake up and get ready NOW. August is ending. St. Louis is pulling away not looking in the rear-view mirror to see us fading into the distance. It's hard for me to imagine CC (I call him "Mr. Monotone") getting this team ready for anything but a restful off-season. They need some fire, and I don't mean a few rhetorical sparks from a guy like Adames.
  14. I don't follow too much other than the headlines (ESPN, SI) and checking in here occasionally. Thanks.
  15. But I bet they give up fewer walks than our regulars!
  16. Well, it IS a west coast night game. <shakes head>
  17. I just don't see anything particularly snarky or provocative about what Lauer said. His take may be wrong, but he's merely giving his take and not dodging the question.
