  1. Unusual joy at the scoreless card first. It almost like it's never happened, tho of course it has.
  2. Too busy to post or lurk this weekend, riding around listening on the MLBTV app. I should be too busy every game! Sweeeeeeeeet win. I whooped it up in the car, though. Wish I could have seen it.
  3. Sorry to have missed the fun. I was watching my alma mater (Tulane) bungle their way to a loss, narrowly avoiding a dramatic come-from-behind victory. Well done, Corbin Burnes!
  4. Actually, one needs to know the exact pre-flip probability before saying that the odds are 50/50. In real life, knowing the exact pre-flip probability is much harder than it sounds in theoretical math land. In theoretical math land, one just says "assume that this coin is fair and has a 50% of landing on a heads or a tail on any individual flip." In that land if I flip a coin and it turns up heads 23 straight times, I throw my hands up and go "WOW, what are the odds of that happening..well the odds are 1 in 2 to the 23rd power!!! That's an amazing statistical anomaly!!" In real life land, by somewhere between the 6th and the 8th straight "heads" outcome, an observer starts to think that the original assumption of a "fair, 50-50 coin" might not actually be true...by the 15th straight heads call they are REALLY sure the original assumption was false. So, the more you toss a coin that doesn't show a 50/50 outcome, the less likely it is that the coin is a fair 50/50 coin. That's hard to think about though... Thanks! I knew it couldn't be too simple.
  5. [sarcasm]Good thing these are meaningless games.[/sarcasm] If the Brewers play like they should, they are. Meanwhile, walks and shabby defense by the Brewers. Inning should be over. But it ain't. Fundamentally poor.
  6. Yah, no thanks. The Dodgers rotation is disturbingly good and their entire line up is simply insane. Why are you scared of one batter, who by the way, wasn't even the best hitter on his team this year by OPS? And what on earth does it even mean for him to be better than anyone on our roster by a substantial amount? I would, easily, take Woodruff/Peralta/OR Burnes over Goldy every day of the week....especially in the postseason. There is absolutely no logical argument for preferring the Cardinals over the Dodgers UNLESS you really believe in the hot team entering the postseason (which it is too soon to really call a team going into the postseason hot). Which the Dodgers probably go into the postseason 'hot' too anyway. The Dodgers are just flat out better than than the Cardinals by a wide margin, even the Brewers are way better despite short term memory results. The sad truth is that either of those 2 teams team has a better batting line-up than we have. We too often need to pull a rabbit out of the hat, those guys have more rabbits than hats. I'll gladly reconsider that if someone shows me the numbers that I am too lazy to look up.
  7. Hmm. Well, I guess my questions about CC's virtues as a manager are best left for another thread.
  8. He's being saved for the World Series, or maybe the NL wild card game, not sure which at this point.
  9. I've always heard that, no matter how many times you toss the coin, the odds for the next toss are still 50-50.
  10. I guarantee both! (or either… or neither) Let's go all out: Cubs sweep the DH; Brewers defeat Mets-- et voila: Division champs! EDIT: 11.6% qualifies as "a chance."
  11. They have 8 more wins now than the Cardinals. I don’t believe the Brewers will lose all of their remaining 9 games, to think that is frankly stupid. But for the sake of argument even if they did the Cardinals have to go 8-2 over their final ten games just to tie! Teams simply don’t play .000 baseball for extended periods of time nor so they play .800 baseball for a month. If it happens I guess it goes down in baseball history with the shot heard round the world, as the greatest turn around of all time…. And Counsel gets fired. Was that supposed to be encouraging? Based on the last 4 (or 5) games, I could see us going 0-9 and the dirty birds going 8-2. It really would be the Greatest Collapse in Baseball History and Counsell would well and truly deserve to get sacked. Yours truly, Frank Lee Stoopid, Tomorrow is another day, though.
  12. Fixed that for you, quite a few typos on your part. That's kinda funny, but only because it applies to me. I have to keep telling myself it's baseball.
  13. Yeah, we're a bunch of weenies. This team has never collapsed before. What the heck are we thinking? And what, exactly, in this team right now shows you they are even remotely capable of "winning it"? We can't score runs. Our bullpen is floundering. Our "superstar" is hitting .181 in the month of September, OPSing a paltry .475. The Brewers have hit a very real mental block. The Cardinals are laughing at us, and they still have us for three at Busch. The Dodgers are licking their chops. If we don't come back here, that's 5 in a row we've lost. 6 of the last 9 come against the Cardinals and Dodgers in their houses. We could very easily go 3-11 to close the season. And you expect the team to just magically shake that off? I want this team to get their heads back in it. Right now, however, they show no signs that they're a team to be reckoned with in the playoffs. ALL OF THIS^^ It's not being a weenie to see the obvious: this team is well and truly whipped. It's tough to admit, lamentable, regrettable, but TRUE. And I'm still listening and caring, even though my feeble brain tells me to let it all go.
  14. It’s not though. The Brewers had 9 more wins than St. Louis at the start of today. Even if Milwaukee didn’t win again this year in the regular season they’d finished 91 and 71. The Cardinals have to go 9-2 to tie. Anything is possible, but the chances of the Brewers finishing the year with a 14 game losing streak and the Cardinals also winning 25 out of their final 27 games is in reality zero percent. The mere fact that these conversations are still being had is nauseating.
  15. I hate baseball. The Brewers evidently hate it too. They keep giving games away. I can't listen any more.
  16. Respectfully, I'd rather they enter the post season playing like a team possessed, and scaring the crap out of other National League teams, instead of morphing into the Keystone Cops. THIS^^^. Just because you stink today doesn't mean you'll snap out of it tomorrow. And winning big today does not mean you'll slump tomorrow. There's just no up-side at all to not winning right now.
