  1. Robideaux was someone I remember being really excited to see come up from the minors, but he didn’t get promoted for multiple years. And yeah, he was disappointing given the hype (but could be misremembering wildly).
  2. The Phils have 4 against the Mets starting tomorrow and then go out west against the Dodgers for 3 next week. Plus non-cupcakes in KC and AZ. That, and Turner got hurt today. I'm feeling pretty good
  3. I have good news for you, then - you should be almost as confident. The current magic number for the 1-seed is 13 against the Phillies, only one more than the 12 for the Cubs.
  4. For those who follow such things, how close are we to the club's preferred innings limit for Miz for the season? Might be overanalyzing the situation, but hat allowance of letting him get to nearly 110 pitches seems to me like maybe that's it for the season. But, maybe it's just letting him roll - I don't know.
  5. If we had known Hall, Henderson, Mears, Anderson, and Megill (and then Miller) were all going to go on the IL after the trade deadline - holy crap, typing that out really hits home how bad it’s been - surely they would have tried harder to get a couple arms. But there really weren’t a boatload of pitchers that were available at reasonable prices that were obvious upgrades over the current roster at the time. Hindsight, blahblahblah And you could make the argument about overusing the bullpen made it more likely we’d get some breaking down, but basically every bullpen arm for every team is taxed at this time of year.
  6. Down to 5 to clinch a postseason berth. I don’t want to jinx anything, but by this time next week, several more teams will likely be eliminated from catching the Brewers - Cards, Reds, D-backs, & Gigantes. Possibly the Metropolitans, too,
  7. Buy it or not, with Yelich not being able to play, they’re down to Collins, Perkins, Frelick, and Chourio as OFs. Bauers can play OF, and is a LH bat. Hoskins and Vaughn are redundant - RH, 1Bs only. How would you platoon those two? If you DH one of them, that puts Yelich in the field (when healthy), and takes out Collins, Chourio, or Frelick.
  8. Marlins eliminated. Next up are the Reds and Cards at 4.
  9. I was thinking Ashby for another inning after getting the first two outs on 4 pitches, but, alas...Maybe he'll still go the 7th? This could get interesting with the rested pen guys being not the highest-leverage guys.
  10. I would've thought that ship had sailed, but he kinda did that. If he comes out next inning at all, he might pitch to Harper and be done.
  11. I implore people to compartmentalize between the sustained excellence it takes to be the best team in baseball over 6 months and the possibility of a bad week in the playoffs against another high-end club. My preemptive imploring won’t work, of course, and I really don’t want to be around this board when the know-it-all doomsayers get to do the I-told-ya-so routine.
  12. The battle for the WC in the NL seems to have been pretty much locked in for a while, but the last spot in the AL is quite a bit more interesting. Seattle currently has the last spot, but with 4 pursuers between 1.5 and 3 games behind them. The closest of those teams is Texas, who the Brewers are taking on next week in Arlington. They will be desperados, so it should really be playoff-like tension for that series.
  13. Magic Numbers: CHI & PHI 17, LAD 15, SD 13 (tiebreaker not settled, Brewers are 1-2 against them with 3 yet to play), NYM 11, SF 8, AZ, CIN, & STL 6 (tiebreaker with STL not settled, 6 more games), & MIA 1. In my way of thinking, the magic number for: the division is 17 against the Cubs. Need this first the 1-seed is also 17 against both the Phillies and Cubs - again, have to have the division first clinching the postseason is 8, currently against the Giants
  14. Braves have been eliminated. Marlins are next, but not sure if the number is 3 or 2 (it’s likely 2, but head to head was even at 3-3 - doesn’t matter much).
  15. 20 is the magic number for the Phillies at the moment and they are the closest pursuer. Any combo of wins by the Brewers and losses by each individual contender that equals at least 20 for each team means the Brewers get the 1-seed. I get what you are saying, though, because of the jockeying amongst the contenders, If a team overtakes the Phillies as the closest competitor, I would use the magic number for that team. Would it be better to do a "race for the 1-seed" and list the magic number for each challenger? It's 19 for the Cubs and 18 for the Dodgers (and you could throw in 16 for the Padres, given they have a reasonable shot at the division).
  16. Just to catch up a little bit, the magic number to clinch a postseason spot is, I believe, 9, For the 1-seed, it’s 20, and that’s the Phillies. Any MKE win in this series would knock an extra magic number off due to tiebreakers. You’re all up to speed with the division at 19. We’re (likely) going to start eliminating several teams over the next week. ATL is next at 2.
  17. Pirates eliminated
  18. Ok, Toby Flenderson. I kid. Am I correct that you were born after the ‘80s? Not casting aspersions towards younger generations - I am sure I undervalued players before my time, and am possibly overvaluing players of my early fandom.
  19. If it were up to me - and I doubt I’m alone in this - #20 would be retired. Gorman Thomas might not actually be worthy by the numbers, but he was as beloved as any Brewer ever. Well, by me anyway. To this day, if anyone asks who my favorite player is, that’s my answer.
  20. All those '82 guys are etched into the hearts of those of us who were around back then. Charlie Moore was one of the lesser-sung of our heroes, but he was definitely one of the longtime Brewer stalwarts of the early years. I remember him being mostly a catcher, but they probably moved him out to the OF later in his career.
  21. Honestly, it's mostly joy already, but the specter of entering the playoffs yet again without key pieces and then going out immediately would really send me into a tizzy. If they're relatively healthy and lose, it won't be as bad on my psyche. I have always been of the belief that playoffs in every sport are much more a crapshoot than the regular season, so regular season accomplishments mean more to me than the average fan (I suspect) because of the long-term excellence it requires. But, the unluckiness of this franchise with playoff health annoys the heck out of me - maybe nobody comes into October 100%, but it sure seems like we've gotten the shorter end of that stick.
  22. Thanks - this is also why Wash went from 3 yesterday to 0 today. I'll try to be more careful. When we get to the Phillies series next week, it'd be good to take at least one of those games to earn the tiebreaker on them - I think even if they sweep us to go 3-3 on the season. we are ahead of them on the next tiebreaker criteria. They're currently the top rival for the #1 seed (tied with Cubs' magic #). Gotta watch out for SD, too, since we do have another series with them and we're currently 1-2 against them.
  23. Not gonna lie - seeing the storminess of the Cards' Contreras puts the idea in my head that our Contreras has that in him, too. I'm all in favor of players showing passion - they're human. When it goes too negative too often, though, it can go south reputation-wise (see Pham, Tommy).
  24. Division and #1 seed: 24 Clinch the postseason: 15 We have a new "next team to be eliminated" - Pittsburgh: 5 Washington joins Colorado in no longer being able to catch the Brewers - they're too "Light" in the win column:
