  1. Holy cow, Charlotte just beat Durham 4-3. Did not see that coming. What an absolutely huge comeback tonight for the Sounds. They continue to climb the mountain that is the journey to the top of the second half International League leaderboard. There are NINE teams within 4.5 G of first place. NINE! 4.5 GB of Lehigh Valley and Durham with 14 games to play.
  2. Thank the baseball gods they will eliminate each other head-to-head. Really fortunate result for the Shuckers to dictate terms at their ballpark - you can't ask for more than that. I'm still salty about the straight cancelled game that gave Montgomery a half game. Screw that!🤣
  3. SO fitting that the game ended with another Nicasia defensive gem! He is so underrated out there. Legit a really good defender with a plus arm to boot.
  4. Charlotte just put up a deuce in the 8th inning to tie it 3-3 in Charlotte. They will now head to Xtras. IF the Knights should somehow win this one, the Sounds will have gained a game in the traffic jam atop the International League second half leaderboard. They currently sit 5.0 GB pending the result in Charlotte. Go Knights!
  5. WOW, Harrison singles to RF and the Sounds walk it off 7-6. They scored all seven runs in the 7th-thru-9th innings with the 8th frame being the big 4-run tying rally. It's gonna be a 4-0 night on the Farm!
  6. Bases juiced and one down for the Sounds. Bottom 9th. 6-6. Monte Harrison at the dish with a 1-0 count.
  7. INF Abraham Toro just smacked a bases clearing triple in the bottom of the 8th. It's a four-run inning amd we are tied 6-6 suddenly! Tyler Black to the dish to try and send him across for the improbable late lead.
  8. Clarke three run bomb (23rd of the year - 73 RBI) the Shuckers lead the Barrons 8-1 in the top of the 7th. Chourio is the first Double-A player aince at least 2005 with a 20+ HR / 40 + SB season. AND with Montgomery winning their third straight va Chattanooga, 8-2, the Shuckers will again hold serve and remain 0.5 GB if this holds. This closing series has the recipe to be a real banger final six games in Biloxi. I hope they fill that ballpark!
  9. Just so incredibly proud of this Mudcats team and manager Victor Estevez and his staff. BUT, let's not forget the ACL and Carolina post-season bonanzas are also a direct reflection of the International Free Agent classes and the continued efforts in the DSL. The Brewers have put in the work and the results are showing in a BIG way in 2023.
  10. Chourio K in his first AB. 1-for-10 at Birmingham as we look to complete the mid-series game 3 tonight. Let's hope he can re-discover one of those sizzling hot streaks in time for Montgomery at Home!
  11. Up 7-0 entering the top of the third inning, RHP Joseph Hernandez has walked, given up a run-scoring double, and walked. Men on 1st and 2nd. No outs. 7-1 T-Rats. And he gets a key DP ball! Man on 3B. Two down now.
  12. Galindez now has 9 K thru 5 IP. The Red Sox did manage a hit in the fifth. Still knotted 0-0. Tight one. Galindez has been a bit of a late season promotional revelation and I am absolutely into it!
  13. After five complete innings, the Kannapolis Cannonballers lead Lynchburg 7-4. Meanwhile, in Salem the Mudcats are knotted at 0-0 in the top of the 5th and RHP Yorman Galindez has not conceded a single hit with 6 K's.
  14. Good stuff from the Shuckers Javik Blake who continues to spoil us with his ongoing pre-game interview series. Here's Wednesday's chat with RHP TJ Shook who dealt a wizardly start in just 58 pitches before the big breakout seventh inning ended his outing. Shook is a very well-spoken interview - I'd put him up there in terms of affability with RHP Tyler Herb (may he be recovering strong up in Nashville!). We learn he sports a catcher's mitt in between starts to keep it loose with his fellow pitchers and he was voted a Minor League Team Rep:
  15. Where Things Stand Today The Mudcats need a single win or a single Lynchburg loss to claim the second-half playoff birth and play a Game One at Home. They have four games remaining. They are knotted 1-1 at Salem. Winners of 9 straight, Biloxi will look for a 10th win in a row and their third in a row to start their second to last series at Birmingham. They remain a mere 0.5 GB of Montgomery (the 1/2 game, here, decided by a cancellation of a recent Shuckers contest - no fair!) as they head toward the final deciding homestand versus these same Biscuits. Wisconsin is playing for pride, now, after laying two consecutive stinkers versus the mighty Cedar Rapids Kernels. Peoria beat Beloit 3-0 last night and clinched the Midwest League's East Division second half birth. Kudos to Peoria. The T-Rats gave it a great run but they will ultimately look back at many failed opportunities in the second half in a 'what could have been' improved run of play. We'll look for strong finishes and small storylines and (hopefully) a possible late Double-A promotion for talented 3B Brock Wilken. Nashville has won the first two contests versus the Memphis Redbirds but Durham (now having won five in a row dating back to their shellacking of the Sounds) has done the same versus the woeful Charlotte Knights. There is plenty of ballgame left in the International League, with 15 games remaining. However, a playoff push is extremely unlikely given the eight teams stacked between the Sounds and first place Durham. Gulp. We will continue to root them on and hope for solid Triple-A performances from here on out.
  16. This thread will be utilized for any minor league news Thursday, lineup updates, etc.Organizational Scoreboard including starting pitcher info, game times, MiLB TV links, and box scores
  17. - INF/OF Noah Campbell was placed on the 7-Day IL by the Nashville Sounds (retroactive to 9/6) - C Brent Diaz was activated by the Nashville Sounds
  18. We have to consider the nature of recovery from labral tears/surgery to address pathologies. The thing Ashby does have going for him, if you look into the literature, is he didn't tear his rotator cuff. Is it a glowing quality? No. Labral recoveries are anything but certain. As literature has advanced, it would appear a return to form happens in 60-80% of the players who experienc such issues - with 20% or so never playing again. However, If you watch his recent outings, as I have, it's pretty clear he currently is working through restricted movement in his throwing shoulder and, well, this is to be completely expected given what he has endured this past year plus. By my eyes, he is working through things in a step-by-step manner - ie, he isn't opening up and why would he after a labrum surgery? That would likely lead to catastrophic effects. Just watch the two clips below - above from a 12 K outing versus the Cubs before the shoulder injury and below from yesterday's outing. It is quite clear to my eyes he is essentially getting mound work and likely working on a few things related to stacking. He isn't remotely close to a full opening of his release plane and his patented full body follow through. He's upright. And, honestly, almost casual. Like he's relearning how he pitches - step-by-step. I personally think this is going to take at least two years to return to real semblance of his former self. But, that's just me, perhaps. I hope they take it really slow. It's impractical to expect him to contribute in 2023 to anything other than his recovery process.
  19. In addition to Medina and Garcia, it would appear the Brewers also released: - INF Alexander Perez - Perez was actually called up from the ACL Crew back in late May and filled in for a month filling in, at the time, for injured INF Daniel Guilarte. Cruel end to Perez's season. I wish him the best. - INF Ney Serrano: Unfortunately for Serrano, he was just never able to find consistent AB's and build momentum in the 2023 ACL after a respectable 2022 season. Here's hoping he keeps grinding and finds AB's and playing time in a productive environment. - C Felipe Valderrama - injured late in the 2022 ACL season (60-Day IL placement in the first week of August), Valderrama saw spot playing time in the 2023 summer ACL. He did manage a very respectable 0.303 BA but in only 33 AB's. It's extremely hard for any player to build momentum off of that. He started 7 games as a backstop and filled in or subbed in in 6 other contests. He threw out 5-of-20 base stealers and sported a 0.986 FP%. We wish him all the best as he ventures to other clubhouses.
  20. Love Vieira's fire and competitiveness. The success of his call-up will all depend on where his body and his arsenal is this late in the season. He has been absolutely dominant at times for Nashville. He's been absolutely hittable for brief spells as well. So goes the life of a journeyman Closer. If we have August Vieira on our hands in September, he can be just as impactful as current Megill. If we have June Vieira...no bueno. Another high velocity arm (sits 99-100 with his heat) where location is key. Regardless, absolutely thrilled for the man to get a September call-up. Hopefully he rises to the occasion.
