  1. The Chattanooga Lookouts are a whopping 0-for-1 with RISP. Montgomery is 0-for-0 - their lone run (their only hit through 5 IP) was a solo shot in the third frame. Montgomery still leads 1-0 after the Lookouts strand runners on 1st base in both their 5th and 6th inning AB's.
  2. Abad's line reads - 0 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 HR, 4 ER. His ERA escalates to an unhealthy 12.46 in an offical 4 1/3 IP out of the Sounds bullpen.
  3. This is a very good thing given Montgomery is once again leading the Lookouts. Heading to the bottom of the 5th. 1-0. Tight ballgame. Hopefully, the Lookouts can actually pull one out. Heading into the final homestand only a 0.5 GB is a much different picture than 1.5 GB. Captain Obvious opines!
  4. The Sounds are on their way to completing a 5-1 series versus the Memphis Redbirds. AND, they will likely not gain a single game on the first place Durham Bulls (they're kind of good, this Rays organization...kind of good) who lead 1-0 early at Charlotte. The Sounds will most likely remain 5.5 GB with 12 games to play. They have managed to leapfrog two foes as they are now in 8th place overall in the International League. Thankfully, for the Sounds they will play these same Charlotte Knights this week while the Bulls will play the Louisville Bats who just managed to take the last two games versus the St. Paul Saints. Regardless, the point still stands: It is highly unlikely the Sounds make any push for a playoff birth though it is still mathematically possible. They simply need to focus on another impactful series versus the lowly Charlotte Knights.
  5. Depending upon how Peoria's game goes tonight vs Beloit (and, for all I really know the Chiefs may have packed things in when they won the Division), the T-Rats will either miss the Playoffs by 1.0 G or they will miss it by a head-to-head series record with the second half winning Peoria Chiefs. Naturally, this same Cedar Rapids Kernels team the T-Rats just beat four consecutive times with a 4-2 closing series victory actually won both halves by decent margins but the playoff spot is then granted to the team with the second best record. Which is, I am disgusted to say, the Cardinals' Peoria Chiefs by a hair🤭.
  6. @sveumrules: The filth of Shears. Just check out these splitters he throws. What you don't see in these highlights is several 95 mph arm-side running heaters he worked up and in on both hitters in this 3-2 nailbiter T-Rats victory. I've timestamped the two closing and consecutive splitter punch out pitches. Just downright filthy. One of the best pitches in the entire system. Full stop. It freezes hitters in their stance. It just dies like a spiraling duck:
  7. I've cued it up for you. THIS is precisely why I've been telling you 3B Brock Wilken is on his way to the MLB. We see the size. We see the frame. We see the plate discipline. We see power to all fields. We see he is much much more than a HR hitter. What nobody told us about before he arrived in High-A, is he is also already a tremendous defensive player. Cued to his play of the game for you at 3B. What a play this is:
  8. AND, the T-Rats (tho eliminated) managed to pull within ONE game of Peoria with one game remaining. Man, they had their shot in those first two games of this Kernels series. Just, wow. Right there. What an effort. What a second half run.
  9. Wait. Checks Box Scores. Nashville came back and won 8-7?!?
  10. QB decides to ran back toward the goal line and his momentum when tackled carries him a yard into the endzone. Refs going to ref. Who wants to call a safety anyway? Refs. They struggle everywhere and anywhere. That was quite obvious.
  11. AND Murray gets the running grab on a chopper up the middle and he gets the fielder's choice at 2B. WOW. 4-3 Biloxi. Incredible win. Heck of a job battening down the hatches in some super precarious settings there. WHewwww. Major major hats off to Freddy Zamora who made two stellar plays at SS with gorgeous throws to homeplate in moments he had to make absolutely split second decisions. You don't question that when they work out and when the throws were that good. Very very impressive plays.
  12. 1st and 3rd runners. 2-1 count. Robinson gets a hard grounder to Zamora who makes another gutsy and stellar play. I saw a DP play there but he was looking there and gets the runner on a very accurate throw right to the plate. WOW. I don't know. The DP was likely there but you can not complain about that scoop and dart and getting the lead runner at home plate. Yowza. Two down. Men on first and 2nd.
  13. Shears gets a weak grounder to 1B on an inside-tailing pitch that nearly snapped the bat handle. What a 2-2 pitch. One down. He gets a gorgeous K looking on a 3-2 nasty splitter. That pitch was pure filth. And Shears gets another K looking. T-Rats win 3-2. Robinson gets Elko on a pitch one ground out to Zavi Warren at 3B. One down. He gets a hard chopper 1B side and Martinez absolutely botches a sliding stab with Murray sitting deep in the hole for the likely scoop and throw out. Error to Martinez by my look there. Runner aboard 1B. AND, after the error, the batter rips a single up the hole and there are runners to the corner. They scored that chopper a single. No way. That play has to be made. Ugh.
  14. Clarke goes down swinging on a very nice slider on the outer stripe. He tried to check on the offering he could not hold it. RHP Cam Robinson comes on with his Southern League leading Saves tally looking for another in a 4-3 tight ball game. Let's go, Cam. Keep it rolling, young fella! In Wisconsin RHP Tanner Shears will try to close it out in the 9th frame of a 3-2 ball game for the T-Rats. Tight ones all around late!
  15. Chourio grounds out weakly to deep SS. He is thrown out by a few steps. 4-for-23 in the series now. The struggle is real: the young man was over-amped and nearly offered at a slider 4 feet off the plate and in the dirt in the first pitch of the AB. The current run of AB's just doesn't lie. By Chourio's standards, he is mired in a mini-funk. We're going to need more if the Shuckers have thoughts of usurping Montgomery at Home.
  16. Four pitch walk to Sparks (and the Birmingham announcer is somehow still a batter ahead thinking it's Collins -he catches his error and is very good-spirited about it) and Collins is to the dish. Men on 1st and 2nd. Nobody out. Collins fails to get a bunt down the line and pops out in foul territory for the first out. That hurts. Chourio now to the dish. One down. Two men on. Meanwhile Gardner worked around a man on first getting a line out to EBJ at SS and then a swinging K. 3-2 T-Rats and we are onto the bottom of the 8th.
  17. Ethan Murray just led off the 9th by smashing a double in the exact location Sparks smashed his HR ball in the 7th. Huge AB's. Let's see if Sparks can send him home.
  18. Meeker gets a very generous strike 3 call on the very dangerous Edgar Quero on a heater that looked to me just high and outside. Who cares? Let's go! 😅 On to the top of the 9th. These are the big money innings. Heck of a job by Meeker working around that jam.
  19. Zamora just made the play of the game. He took a short-hopped chopper to shallow SS behind the mound and fired a very accurate dart to Clarke at home plate back away from his body. Zamora makes this play look way too easy. This just in: that play is ridiculously hard to make. AND, Clarke then asleep at home plate during a delayed steal airmails the throw to 2B into shallow CF and they have a runner back on 3B. That can't happen. Yikes. Two down, at least. But, sheesh, Clarkesy just eat the ball!
  20. Sac fly to deep RF. Man on 3rd base. One down. The very dangerous Wilfred Veras to the dish.
  21. Meeker gave up a second pitch double down the 1B line. Nobody out. Man on 2nd. 4-3 Shuckers. (Bites nails)
