  1. Boeve actually hasn't played in 4-5 games. He didn't appear injured in any way and finished 9 innings his last game at Beloit. BUT, he was not making solid contact in any way for 4 games or so. Had a pretty poor error up the middle on a weak dribbler in the last game. And we haven't seen him since. We will likely hear about this if we get a Home Post-Game pod with Chris and Kyle tonight. A pod is unlikely - the T-Rats play a matinee game on Wednesday and they rarely do a pod in that scenario. It's either in tonight's broadcast or the post-game Wednesday pod.
  2. Sweeping Beloit is one thing (who also red hot Peoria now plays in their final six-game series) but sweeping the juggernaut that is the Twins' Cedar Rapids Kernels is an entirely different Midwest League High-A feat. Stranger things have happened, yes, but I wouldn't put my wager here. I guess the bright side is if the T-Rats miraculously happened to pull this off we certainly would know they earned it...and then some.
  3. It. Is. Time. To go to Salem and take care of business long overdue. Let's support the Mudcats in getting the monkey off their backs! @wiguy94: More detailed update from Greg Young: I'll do my thing (should we be so lucky to hear a playoff broadcast) and post updates and highlights in our Game Thread.
  4. Best write-up I've seen on Shears. Refreshing to see a real understanding of the catchers challenges catching his stuff (and, as I've said in the past, the umps difficulty calling it) and the obvious benefit he'd receive with an ABS. This being said, as you also touch on above: control is still a real issue. Even with those things in place in this current season maybe that FIP is in the high 3's instead of 4's? Control is a big issue and it is what has allowed him to stay under the proverbial radar across the Minor Leagues. But, man, if he can figure out the consistency...he has some of the best raw tools in the system from the mound. Filthy filthy stuff.
  5. If we go back to last year's blowout loss to Durham in the Vegas Championship Semis, the Sounds are 5-13 over their last 18 contests versus the Bulls. It's fair to say: in the short term they've definitely had the Sounds number.
  6. I'm sorry but have to share this. Tell me you haven't watched Chourio play in one string of thoughts. Won a Gold Glove last year and his defense has definitely improved by my eyes. There isn't a single Shuckers game I've watched to date where I've remotely thought: "Boy, Chourio has to work on those reads. That's the next step for his call-up!". Just a really odd take. (From HERE)
  7. Monday is typically my 'What are they up to?" day of the Minor League Baseball week. I found RHP Kent Hasler, finally (!!), in a write up of the American Association's Sioux City Explorers expressly focused on him. He has been working on his MBA via Louisiana Tech online in between tossing the white rat with the skill and savvy we grew to love. Great to see he is still in the game (and familiar organization) while angling toward playing as long as he can while staying in it on the other side of the lines: Hasler did rep the Express in the All Star Game, but, the game logs indicate he hasn't pitched since mid-August. And I don't currently seem him on the roster - injury? signed elsewhere? Regardless, as always, I wish him all the best.
  8. I seriously am in a prolonged denial about the inevitable likelihood of zero viewing in Down East. First post-season in over 13 years...and play at the lone Carolina League affiliate with not an ounce of Media exposure? Unbelievable.
  9. I think Wagoner's struggles earlier in the year can be pin-pointed to two classic pitching issues: Mix and Location. He was hanging pitches. He was predictable in his Mix. His location has been lethal for some time now and it has made a world of difference. They are leading with his off-speed and that is setting up everything. His curveball has been absolutely dialed in and I would opine it has become his best pitch. It's been a real pleasure seeing him work through his season - his early struggles (and they were definitely struggles) - and play his best ball by a country mile for an unlikely (given Peoria's performance, improbable) Playoff push.
  10. In terms of the 'series before the series', we certainly have the upper hand. Montgomery has to play Chattanooga who are 4 G over 0.500. They are the Leaders for that Divisional 2nd Half and lead Rocket City by 4 G. They'll have plenty to play for. Birmingham is in a tailspin and are 15 G under. Let's lay some more wood!
  11. Yes. I worded this wrong. I essentially mean that Home series awaits. Hopefully, we obliterate these Barrons.😅
  12. Well, Montgomery definitely did their part in Game 6. They beat Brimingham 14-0 to close the series. They remain 0.5 G ahead of the Shuckers as we head to the final series. The tension is palpable!
  13. Benefit of INF Jadher Areinamo winning the 'Team MVP' award for the Mudcats is a cut-up of his Highlights. Man, I just love watching this young man play baseball.
  14. Yes. IF this remains the case (and there is a likelihood it could, as we know), what a punch to the gut that would be. First Playoff appearance in over 13 years. Break the longest tenured Minor League Playoff drought. AND, then, what, don't televise it?!?
  15. @wiguy94: Just so you know I have sent a personal email to their Front Office inquiring about this. AND, their offices open Tuesday. I'll give them a call bright and early and see what I can discover. Stay tuned!
  16. My understanding is the home field advantage automatically goes to the first half winner. I should add, I am going off of this publication from last summer I kept book-marked. I am fairly confident in saying the only format changes that occurred were a three-game series before the championship series - and, I only know this is changed for Triple-A as the Sounds only played a head-to-head single elimination game vs. Durham last year in Vegas. It sucked. 😅
  17. RHP Cam Robinson works around a lead-off come backer deflection single (off his glove) and another poke to CF - men on 1B and 2B by getting a pop out and 2 K (the last one looking in a 3-2 count). AND, the Shuckers sweep the Smokies. Wow. They are currently tied atop the second half leaderboard with Montgomery set to close their series with Birmingham. Once again, the Shuckers face the Biscuits over the final 6 games at Home. Get out early and often Shuckers fans. Let's support these young men and help get them across the finish line!
  18. AND Chourio adds the two-rbi single to CF after Ethan Murray had successfully laid down the sac bunt to advance the runners. <Chef's Kiss> The Shuckers lead 7-3 and have the chance to close this series out with a 6-0 sweep of the Smokies. Unreal.
  19. Because he's James f'n Meeker that's why! He gets the ground out to 1B. He then K's two straight. He strands the man at 3B. Because he's James f'n Meeker that's why!
  20. Well, Meeker suffers from the classic absolute dribbler to 3B for an infield single lead-off (I swear I've seen that 100 times this season versus the affiliates) and then the batter steals 2B and he heads to 3B when Quero airmails the throw. Not good. Lead-off man on 3B. No outs. 5-3 Shuckers.
  21. HUGE props to RHP Tobias Myers who gave his Shuckers teammates two very quality starts in this key road series at Tennessee. He went 7 complete innings today. His second start of the series. 7 H, 1 BB, 7 K, 3 ER. His team leads 5-3 as the ball is handed to RHP James Meeker who will look to give his best stuff as they Shuckers continue to try and keep pace with red hot Montgomery. What a closing series in Biloxi this is turning out to be. Head-to-head with your top foe is the way a season should close out. As to Myers, how about K'ng the side to end his day? Sheesh. Little bit of showmanship toward that Smokies dugout? Can you blame him? This just in, as well, Myers became the first SP in the Southern League to reach 150 K. Noice!
  22. Lara just added a key insurance run in the 8th (5-2 T-Rats) with a base hit infield grounder to the 1B side. Big time. AND, the Sky Carp have seen enough Brock Wilken. They just intentionally walked him with two down to put Lara at 2B. They did this to face suddenly hot Hendry Mendez who came into the AB 2-for-4. He singles on a liner to CF. It's 6-2. Beautiful to see Mendez punish them for that decision!
  23. Love it. AND, I would add the more surprising thing for me is how good he is defensively. His side-to-side diving range is likely limited but man he has an absolute cannon. And, it's accurate. He can make those charging scoop throws look easy. Anything within his range on the bounce is typically scarfed up with another accurate throw. He can ensure the corral because his arm is so good. Very good receiving the ball in the basepaths too. It may seem silly, but, it's big time when you know the tag is getting laid. I think we have to be extremely pleased with what we're seeing. He has MLB player written all over his game. Exit Velo's consistently sitting 104-106 mph on his liners.
  24. Wow, Jimenez escaped that third inning bases loaded jam! After a mound visit he got the DP ball in a classic 6-4-3. Huge huge play. A Joe Gray Jr. single sent Brock Wilken across home plate in the top of the 4th. We are now tied 1-1 as we head to the top of the 5th frame. Other than that troubled 3rd, Jimenez has been dealing: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 ER.
