  1. Maybe but it was also very catchable for someone with reps at first base.
  2. It wasn’t a good throw but a real first baseman needs to glove that.
  3. Between the two of them, they have started all of one MLB game at first base.
  4. I've seen Cubs twitter throwing a fit. Most of the NSBB folks are pretty reasonable, they're more wondering than accusing. I remember that "rainout". Completely absurd.
  5. I'm sure Spencer is accurate here but how does this usually work? Does the heads groundskeeper make the request and then it is approved/declined by the umpire crew chief?
  6. As much as advanced stats tell us, there are still elements outside their scope. My mind is immediately drawn to Joe Ryan of the Twins, who was a decent prospect considered to have a fastball that wouldn’t really play at the MLB level. Yet because of his delivery, extension, and where he places his pitches, he has a 116 ERA+ through his first 50-ish starts. He’s just a good pitcher that punches above his metrics. I suspect Justin Steele is the same kind of guy, he’s just better than he “should” be based on the numbers.
  7. If anyone wants a good primer on Justin Steele, Matt Trueblood wrote this a few days ago: https://northsidebaseball.com/news-rumors/chicago-cubs/misinformation-is-justin-steeles-third-pitch-r161/
  8. I've watched Steele a lot (we run a Cubs site so I stay abreast of what they're doing). His pitches have crazy, unpredictable movement. While he *technically* throws two pitches, he has the ability to make them move differently. Think of Mariano Rivera. He threw "one" pitch but it didn't look like one pitch to hitters because it moved differently based on what Rivera needed in the moment.* *obviously, Justin Steele is not Mariano Rivera, just using the best-known example of a guy having one pitch that does a lot of different stuff
  9. First, welcome to the site! I wonder if Seattle is willing to sell from a public relations standpoint. The fanbase might revolt after seeing them make the postseason, see a quick exit, and then selling again the following deadline.
  10. The Brewers almost had another stellar comeback yesterday but came up just a little bit short. The next two games should pose a tougher challenge, as the Brewers face off against Justin Steele today and Marcus Stroman tomorrow.
  11. Oh, the Reds have quite a stretch coming, too. @ Brewers - 3 vs Brewers - 3 vs Giants - 4 vs Diamondbacks - 3 @ Brewers - 3 @ Dodgers - 3 That's 19 straight games against teams over .500.
  12. The Brewers are doing their best to stab the knife into the Cubs' heart and twist until dead.
  13. Well, at least they're going to make it really interesting!
  14. Oh boy, the wheels are shootin' off in all directions right now.
  15. About his career line. 3.44 career ERA, 3.58 ERA versus Milwaukee.
  16. The Brewers should be aiming a lot higher than a 117-year-old Nelson Cruz.
  17. I'm just not a big believer in the Reds this season, though it's certainly possible they win the division. They've backed into a ton of wins lately by just scraping out one-run victory after one-run victory. At some point, that will end. It's so much easier to fix an offense, especially at the corners as the Brewers need to do, than try to fix a rotation at the trade deadline. And as the Twins and Yankees found out last year, paying top-dollar for a starter at the deadline often blows up in your face. I really like the Reds, maybe as soon as next season. I just don't see them putting it together in 2023 especially if guys like Woodruff come back and are their typical selves, which helps the Brewers create a gap.
