  1. An interesting test for the refitted Brewers offense. Meet what is perhaps the best pitching staff in baseball, especially the rotation.
  2. Excellent! I will add you to the list of potential contributors!
  3. At TD, it’s open to all players and coaches, even career minor leaguers.
  4. Welcome to the site and fantastic username.
  5. Another interesting game that might tell us something about both teams' 2024 seasons... The Twins are putting twice-TJed Chris Paddack on the mound while the Brewers are trotting out Joe Ross for his first start. But hey, what about Brice Turang? Is this for real or a spate of good luck at the plate for him?
  6. I'm petitioning one of our writers to dive into the Quero situation. He's working on his PhD in sports medicine, his analysis is top notch on this stuff.
  7. It's the home opener! Who is going? It's kind of a weird game for a home opener, as it's two split starter/relievers from 2023 going against one another. It's Junis's first start for the Brewers and Louie Varland is a decent Twins prospect who started a handful of games before converting to a shut-down reliever late last season. He's a pretty solid pitcher, think of him as a prospect at or a tick below Robert Gasser, to put it in Brewers terms. The kind of guy who might be okay or pretty good some day but also might fall on his face at any time. Anyway, I'm enjoying the hell out of this new-look Brewers offense, here's to seeing more of it!
  8. Explaining Iowa's blackout rules requires a PhD in mathematics.
  9. Hah, fair enough. I'm sure he has some, we just haven't seen them yet.
  10. Jackson Chourio is going to struggle as pitchers build a book on him and exploit his weaknesses but... damn, this guy is good.
  11. I don't think there's much improvement left in Rea and that's okay. He pitched to a 95 ERA+ last season, which is right about smack-dab in the middle of starting pitchers. For the amount the Brewers are paying Rea, that's a hell of a deal.
  12. Trevor's brother is starting for the Mets while the Brewers can sweep on the road!
  13. Oh my god, Hoskins is just murdering the Mets. This is absolutely hilarious.
  14. Absolute must-see TV as the crown jewel of the Burnes trade makes his first start wearing the blue and yellow.
  15. This Chourio kid might be okay. Anybody know anything about him?
  16. Huh. Yelich. Against a lefty. I'll take it.
  17. After a 24 hour delay, baseball is back! Let's get this season started off with a win!
  18. Welcome to Mudcat Fanatic!
  19. People should be returning over the next few days and I want to bring this up as a potential feature of BF once we get into the flow of the season. Several months ago, I found myself frustrated by how useful information about players is scattered all over the internet and the best content is often hard to find. So I decided to see if there was a way to solve that problem with a very specific focus on one team. Then I thought it would be cool to add the ability to upload an autograph, personal experiences, baseball cards, etc. Drill down deep into a single team, powered by a community passionate about that one thing. For example, Rollie Fingers had a long, illustrious career but does anyone here care about really anything he did before 1981? Probably not. So what if we created a page that if you searched "rollie fingers brewers", this was the first result and it contained a host of information about his Brewers tenure? Well, I just rolled it out over at Twins Daily and interest in slowly building on it. The big issue is that a project like this needs real community buy-in or it doesn't work. Are people interested in a project of this kind? There will be incentives for helping out as a moderator and/or creator but given the newness of this project, I don't know if that would be a yearly gift (like we do for moderators) or a monthly stipend. https://twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-players-project/
  20. The Brewers and their fans are ready to put a long offseason behind them as the season finally springs into action. Citi Field, after a one day delay due to rain, will host an Opening Day showdown on Thursday between Freddy Peralta and Jose Quintana. Our 2024 Brewers Roster Preview PDF is now available exclusively for Caretakers, offering quick overviews of each position on the roster along with a few insider takeaways and tidbits that our writers gleaned during several weeks spent covering spring training. If you're interested, learn more about the Brewer Fanatic Caretaker Fund and how to become a member. This is an opportunity for people to support the site and community; providing premium content perks like these are a small part of how we say thank you. As always, there will be plenty more free coverage on the site today, tomorrow, and throughout the season. Here's a quick preview of the spring training takeaways section of the PDF. Caretakers can scroll beyond that to find a link to download the full version. Pat Murphy says he’s ready to manage. This was the 65-year-old’s first spring training as a big-league manager. He says this is the right time in his career for the opportunity, as he’s far better equipped now than he was as a younger coach. Murphy was observant during his eight seasons as Craig Counsell’s bench coach, and what he learned during that time helped him broaden his perspective. Despite his reputation as a hard-nosed, old-school baseball guy, Murphy demonstrated a thoughtful and adaptable mindset when talking about strategy during his media sessions. He also said he welcomes information from an analytical front office and plans to incorporate it into his game management. The rotation outlook hinges heavily on a pair of southpaw prospects. Corbin Burnes is now a Baltimore Oriole, and Brandon Woodruff will not pitch in 2024, leaving the Brewers without their top two starters of the last four seasons. The Brewers are now lacking traditional starters, but that could change if DL Hall and Robert Gasser establish themselves as reliable rotation arms. Both showed encouraging stuff in Cactus League play. Hall’s calling card is his lively fastball, but he flashed an improved ability to manipulate his slider and has revived the curveball he rarely used out of the Orioles’ bullpen the last two seasons. Gasser racked up whiffs with his deep arsenal, which features three fastballs (two-seam, four-seam, cutter), a sweeping slider, and an improving changeup. A pair of shuttle relievers could play a major role. Joel Payamps, Abner Uribe, Trevor Megill, and Elvis Peguero are the leading candidates for high-leverage work as Devin Williams recovers from stress fractures in his back, but expect the Brewers also to receive significant contributions from part-time members of the bullpen. J.B. Bukauskas and Bryan Hudson each have options remaining and will ride the shuttle between the big leagues and Triple-A throughout the year, but they could find themselves in big spots while on the roster. Both pitchers have fine-tuned their arsenals within the past year and looked impressive in camp. Hudson will start the year on the roster, while Bukauskas will open the year in Triple A.

  22. And that's fine, it's just won't be the second day of the season when over half the league doesn't play.
