  1. Like Wong? Wong has one inning at SS; the rest of his infield innings are all at 2B.
  2. I wish I could think the Brewers will add $44M in contracts. I'd take the under at $8.5M in total FA contracts added.
  3. I think they'd trade him for anything at this point.
  4. As far as value for value, I don't have any problem with this trade. Except we acquired the wrong players. Winker bats from the wrong side. I know he did OK vs. LHP last year, but that was an aberration, based on the rest of his career. He's a reasonable bounce-back candidate. Toro is a switch hitter and can play 2b and 3b, which suggests versatility, but his terrible hitting means he's not a platoon candidate with any of our existing players. He did great in AA in 2019, and probably was promoted too soon. So there is hope for him becoming a quality ML player. Since we're sending back 1.75M, there isn't even any cost savings; rather, our salary obligations have increased by the amount of Toro's salary.
  5. He's too athletic and has too good of an arm to put at 1B. If all of our OF prospects do well, you trade one.
  6. Barring injuries, Yelich will play 50-100 games in the OF. Taylor will play 100-130 games in the OF. Figure Yelich 300 PA (plate appearances) Taylor 450 PA Mitchell 450 PA Frelick 450 PA Ruiz/Wiemar/Perkins/Other 450 PA Of course, many of them will get some PA at DH.
  7. since we just traded a RF who would have been on a 1yr contract at a reasonable cost, I can see no support for this notion. They might have someone on the OD roster (and some of you think this will be Perkins), just to delay the clock on one of our rookies, but it won't be about replacing Renfroe's production.
  8. 13% of his time at RF, 73% as LF For comparison, Yelich has played 16% of his time as a RF.
  9. maybe a poor man's Renfroe, and he's trending badly. And he's not a RF.
  10. Barring injury, I think he'll play at least 50 games in the OF, and maybe even 80+.
  11. I think the only way he signs with the Brewers is if he realizes a one-year contract to prove he's healthy is the way to go. Which will only happen if he doesn't get decent multi-year offers.
  12. Because Taylor is still on the team.
  13. You mustn't have gotten the memo. Everyone here is supposed to disagree with me. :-)
  14. He shouldn't be playing every day since he's not good vs. RHP (for a corner OF). And he's not great in the field. I'd rather have Ruiz on the team than him.
  15. That just means he has to be on-board with the trade. There must be places he'd rather be, given an option.
  16. No financially responsible team would be willing to trade for Yelich. I suppose it's possible for a team with an almost unlimited budget to take him, expecting more of the same from him as a floor and dreaming on him returning to MVP-level production. I'd be exploring such trades, but I doubt you could make one. The alternative would be to trade Yelich and Burnes together for basically nothing (maybe a spare part or very marginal prospect). That doesn't make us better, though we'd be able to afford a couple of serviceable FAs with the cost savings. I think the most likely successful course would be to expose Yelich to weird religious sects that would cause him to retire, if he joined them. That's the best-case scenario, assuming we don't want to indulge in any foul play. I don't think I'm joking.

  18. The Burnes/Adames trade is fair (BTV); I see no reason why we'd get more by splitting them, in fact they'd want Adames more if they thought they could get Burnes in the same trade. And the Woody deal is fair too. We have Williams for an extra year. We could get back to the playoffs as soon as 2024.
  19. He would have improved the lineup a ton if our management was wise enough to limit his AB vs. LHP. You wouldn't get rid of a LHH who raked against RHP; it was foolish to use Hiura as they did.

  21. Trade Burnes and Adames to the Dodgers for: Diego Cartaya C* Austin Barnes C Bobby Miller RHP* Ryan Pepiot RHP Miguel Vargas 3B, 1B, OF Trade Woodruff to the Orioles for: Jordan Westburg 3B/2B* Kyle Bradish RHP Cionel Perez RP and a Fungible low-value pitching prospect. And just to get rid of them, I'm trading Wong and Hiura to the Tigers for: Andy Ibanez INF Tyler Alexander LHP, and a Fungible low-value pitching prospect. The guys with * on them would not break camp with the team, but should be called up at some point in 2023. Current prospects who could be called up during 2023 are Wiemer, Feliciano, Navaretto, Small, Gasser, Devanney, Monasterio, Singleton, Uribe, Middendorf, as well as some marginal relief pitchers. Counting Tyler Alexander (not our Alexander) and Houser, there are 7 starting pitchers on this staff. C: Victor Caratini ($2.80M) 1B: Rowdy Tellez ($5.30M) 2B: Luis Urias ($4.3M) 3B: Miguel Vargas ($0.7M) SS: Brice Turang ($0.7M) LF: Sal Frelick ($0.70M) CF: Garrett Mitchell ($0.70M) DH: Christian Yelich ($26.00M) Bench OF: Esteury Ruiz ($0.70M) Utility: Mike Brosseau ($1.0M) Utility: Andy Ibanez ($0.75M) Backup C: Austin Barnes ($3.5M) RF: Tyrone Taylor ($1.0M) SP1: Ryan Pepiot ($0.7M) SP2: Aaron Ashby ($1.00M) SP3: Freddy Peralta ($3.50M) SP4: Eric Lauer ($5.20M) SP5: Kyle Bradish ($0.7M) CL: Devin Williams ($3.20M) RP: Tyler Alexander ($1.00M) RP: Matt Bush ($2.00M) RP: Peter Strzelecki ($0.7M) RP: Hoby Milner ($1.10M) RP: Jake Cousins ($1.0M) RP: Adrian Houser ($3.6M) RP: Cionel Perez ($3.0M) Payroll is 42.42% under budget
  22. I watched the game where he blew out his knee. As I recall, some dust got in my eyes.
