  1. I'd hypothesize that some of the best LFs probably played a good bit in CF or RF, so I don't know what's a good minimum number of innings played in Left.
  2. Yelich doesn't hit enough to win a gold glove anymore. :-) Shouldn't the best fielding pitcher be someone who gives up a bunch of ground balls that the pitcher needs to make a play on (catch, assist, or put out)?

  4. It would be in the running, at least until a bunch of the players lose their rookie status.
  5. Well that works perfectly. Maybe we can trade him for a lottery ticket at the '23 deadline.
  6. Is it though? I concentrated on getting guys who were ML ready (or would be by the end of 2023). Good players. Anyway, Eff Stearns. This was a nuclear option. I made another "blueprint" just working on the margins.
  7. My bad for not doing due diligence on Buehler. It doesn't matter; he was only there as a bridge to some of the younger guys (who have had some ML experience, but haven't established themselves yet). Swap Buehler for Landon Knack, a pitcher who should probably start 2023 in AA. Move Grove, Miller or Silseth into the ML rotation; this reduces how sanguine I'd be on being good by the end of 2023, but is beneficial in the long term. And MLB.com has a 2023 MLB debut for Cartaya. Again, it doesn't matter, because O'Hoppe is definitely ready for the majors. It just means the Brewers won't be in a position to trade Caratini until later in the season, or in the next offseason.
  8. Any way a moderator could add "reboot option" to the title? I don't seem to be able to edit it.
  9. This is reboot option based on the trade value site. Trade Hunter Renfroe to Twins for 3B Gio Urshela. Trade Adames, Burnes, Taylor, and Feliciano to LAD for: Walker Buehler, SP change to Landon Knack, SP who will start at AA. Diego Cartaya, C (AAA-MLB) Miguel Vargas, 3B-1B-OF Ryan Pepiot, SP Michael Grove, SP (stash in Nashville) Bobby Miller, SP (stash in Nashville) Maddux Bruns, SP (start in A or A+) Trade Woodruff to LAA for: Logan O'Hoppe, C (AAA-MLB) Edgar Quero, C (Starts in A+; our Quero's younger brother) Chase Silseth, SP (Stash in Nashville) Vargas would probably play in the field most games, and could bounce between 1B, 3B, and the OF. Yelich would DH at least half the time. I acquired two C who are pretty ready for the majors; ideally they'd motivate a trade of Caratini before or during the season. The 2nd Utility guy could be one of those AAAA guys we seem to covet, or we could acquire someone. The 3 INF starters don't really need a platoon partner. I acquired some pitchers who might be ready for a late-season callup, in the mix with Gasser. One might start in the majors (in the bullpen) or it could be one of our current guys, even Uribe. Whomever it is will be a minimum salary kind of guy. There will be some growing pains sorting out who is ready for the majors, but I really think things could be looking good by the end of the season. C: Victor Caratini ($2.80M) 1B: Rowdy Tellez ($5.50M) 2B: Luis Urias ($4.50M) 3B: Gio Urshela ($7.50M) SS: Brice Turang ($0.7M) LF: Christian Yelich ($22.00M) CF: Sal Frelick ($0.70M) RF: Garrett Mitchell ($0.7M) DH: Miguel Vargas ($0.7M) 4th OF: Esteury Ruiz/Wiemer ($0.7M) Utility: Mike Brosseau ($1.00M) Utility: Generic Scrub ($0.70M) Backup C: L. O'Hoppe/Diego Cartaya ($0.70M) SP1: Walker Buehler ($5.5M) Change to Michael Grove (or other) ($0.7M) SP2: Ryan Pepiot ($0.8M) SP3: Freddy Peralta ($3.50M) SP4: Eric Lauer ($5.00M) SP5: Aaron Ashby ($1.2M) RP: Brad Boxberger ($3.00M) RP: Luis Perdomo ($1.00M) RP: Matt Bush ($2.00M) RP: Adrian Houser ($3.50M) RP: Hoby Milner ($1.00M) RP: Devin Williams ($4.00M) RP: Peter Strzelecki ($0.7M) RP: random/gasser/small, etc ($07M) Payroll is 33.54% under budget More like 37% under budget after removing Buehler.
  10. Tom Murphy seems to be underpaid ($0). :-)
  11. They don't by committing to a bunch of rookies and jettison their best hitter. They do by their SP pitching like they did in 2021; if they don't do that, it's irrelevant, they aren't going anywhere. I suggested signing Abreu as you did (though I predicted $2M more per year); seems like a good idea, but there is a ton of risk on counting on that, as he will have several suitors (including, apparently, the Cubs). And if you don't sign Abreu, the options for improving upon Renfroe are even smaller. They SHOULD have been a 91-win team, and would have done that if their pitching didn't take a nose dive. It's reasonable to think that they could reach that level again. The Cardinals should have been a 86-win team, but they had a bunch of older players have one of their best seasons ever; It's reasonable to think they will be worse next year.
  12. If you really believe the things you are posting, there's no reason to discuss this particular issue with you.
  13. What boggles my little mind is that you think the way to improve from 7th is to let the best hitter on the team (whose salary will be a slight bargain) walk without getting anything back. He's the lower risk alternative. The time to take the higher risk alternative is when they decide to do a soft rebuild (when they've traded a good chunk of our starting rotation away).
  14. It might surprise you, but other folks think that's unlikely. Most rookies suck when they're rookies. That fact seems to have eluded you. IMO, you only move on from Renfroe if you're giving up on 2023, in which case Burnes and Woodruff should be traded.
  15. Well, there's your fundamental error. You can count on Renfroe getting around .800 OPS, barring injury. You can't count on a rookie having an OPS of over .700.
  16. The one I looked at had 3 years $21M, and thought it could go as high as $27M. But really, he's just a name. Insert any other 31-year-old plus OF-DH who might take a short-term $4-8M a year contract (but he better be an every day player if he's at the top end of that range)..
  17. Trade Tellez and Taylor to Houston for Bryan Abreu and Jose Perez (who will be stashed in Nashville with a possible callup) and possibly a spare part or two. Sign Jose Abreu to 2 year contract at $20M/y. Sign Mitch Haniger for 2 years at $5M/y (mainly to antagonize the BF guys who don't want our former players; Michael Brantley would be an option. I put Haniger at DH, but most of his ABs will probably be as an OF). Trade Feliciano and E. Ruiz for Logan O'Hoppe, and maybe a spare part. Sign Taylor Rogers (I don't see a likely, better option), and Jace (his performance after returning from injury should reduce his pay) to 2-year contracts. Hiura is traded for whatever we can get; he's not going to get a chance in MKE, so might as well trade him. ? Victor Caratini ($2.80M) 1B: Jose Abreu ($20M) 2B: Brice Turang ($0.7M) 3B: Luis Urias ($4.50M) SS: Willy Adames ($9.50M) LF: Christian Yelich ($22.00M) CF: Garrett Mitchell ($0.70M) RF: Hunter Renfroe ($11.00M) DH: Mitch Haniger ($5.00M) 4th OF: Sal Frelick ($0.70M) Utility: Mike Brosseau ($1.00M) Utility: Jace Peterson ($2.5M) Backup ? Logan O'Hoppe ($0.70M) SP1: Corbin Burnes ($11.50M) SP2: Brandon Woodruff ($11.00M) SP3: Freddy Peralta ($3.50M) SP4: Eric Lauer ($5.00M) SP5: Aaron Ashby ($1.2M) RP: Peter Strzelecki ($0.75M) RP: Brad Boxberger ($3.00M) RP: Matt Bush ($2.00M) RP: Adrian Houser ($3.50M) RP: Hoby Milner ($1.00M) RP: Devin Williams ($4.00M) RP: Bryan Abreu ($2.00M) RP: Taylor Rogers ($3.50M) Payroll is 2.29% over budget
  18. Yelich and Brosseau should have definitely been listed.

  20. so Devin should have been considered for most improved.

  22. How can Lauer be among the most-improved when he got worse, during a season when offense was down?

  24. I didn't remember John Briggs playing 1B; Scott did start 20 games at 3B for the Brewers in 1972. What I remember is he wore a (batting?) helmet in the field.
