  1. Vargas would be a useful guy to have, but he's probably not sticking at 3B. He could be a corner INF/OF/DH for us.

  3. The only thing surprising about Travis Shaw is that he spontaneously forgot how to hit.

  5. Everyone is a trade candidate if you find a trading partner who values the player more than you do. My preference would be to ride out Woodruff and Burnes for at least one more season, extending either if you can for even one season of FA. But it's equally reasonable to trade Woodruff, Burnes, and Adames for (mostly) MLB-ready players with an eye on competing in 2024..

  7. I hope they sign him, and the Brewers get some significant compensation. Any prospects that might be available?

  9. Thanks, I didn't know (or remember) that.
  10. Taylor will get a raise if he is brought back. The organization has shown pretty well that Hiura is not a long-term piece. They can't trade Brown yet. The haul for Murphy isn't enough (BTV site); I don't think he'll be worth what we have to give up for him and Quero might be ready in 2024. And the bullpen is weaker than last year.
  11. Burnes won't make THAT much. He still has 2 arbitration years. Woodruff is also marginally overpaid. Lauer would require more (his arb. estimate is 5.2 in 2022; he'll average more than $6M on a 5 year contract (maybe $50M?). And your 2022 $ estimates on these extensions are too high--salaries will increase over time. Way too much deferred money. Maybe do it for Burnes, but not the rest. You're bringing back the same guys (plus Turang and Frelick); only hope is that players improve.
  12. You answered your own concerns. Look at his #s when his BABIP was .300+ (August-October). That's the true Adames. If anything, I think an extension would be a good case of buying low. OTOH, Turang needs to be given a chance to be our long-term SS.

  14. Burnes is the one they should open the bank for. I don't think it will happen, but if we truly believe: "you need those types of pitchers to effectively compete for a World Series. Yet, they are in rare supply and are particularly hard to develop." Burnes is the one to target. A top 3 SP, not a top 15 SP. But if our position player prospects hit, we might not need 3 top 25 SP to win.

  16. I'm not against acquiring Yandy Diaz, but Taylor wouldn't be enough. You'd have to add someone like Mendez to the package. Plus, he's not a good 3B. He'd be great as a Corner INF-DH guy who gets 450-500 ABs or so. If he and Urias are on the team, Urias should be getting most of the starts at 3B (Urias was fine at 3B). Diaz would be a great platoon partner with Tellez (not saying Tellez shouldn't play against some LH). He could play 3B or DH when he's not playing 1B. He'd help mightily against LHP. Quintana should get $8-12M a year. I don't get replacing Burnes with him, when he wouldn't be a significant cost savings. Particularly when you have none of the players acquired for Burnes on the 26 man roster.
  17. we literally couldn't without acquiring someone. Even McCutchen played better in the field.

  19. because of the long history of gold gloves going to good hitters who field poorly. For example, Derek Jeter won 5 gold gloves in spite of being a below-average fielder. Basically gold gloves don't mean much, except to the player who has a bonus in his contract for a GG.

  21. Nowhere did I suggest anything that goes against the "rules" you posted. The stats that were posted were for LF with 600+ innings. A guy would qualify as a LF if he played 698 innings spread: 250LF, 240CF, 208RF.

  23. I'd hypothesize that some of the best LFs probably played a good bit in CF or RF, so I don't know what's a good minimum number of innings played in Left.
