    Saw an article summarizing some of the standouts in AZ, and Quero's defense was lauded. The greatest compliments were given to Evan Reifert, whom the Brewers traded to the Rays to get Brosseau. Suggested he could be a high leverage reliever as soon as 2023.

    Even Mitchell is a significant underpay. By BTV, we'd have to do something like Frelick and Moore.

    The problem is finding slots for Tellez and Yelich to play. Tellez's pay will be commensurate with what we get out of him, and Yelich isn't going anywhere. The ideal situation would be a switch-hitting guy who can play 1B, 3B and a little in the OF. I don't know that that guy exists though. Vargas from LA would be a reasonable approximation though he's not a switch-hitter. But a short contract with Abreu would be a good idea; I just think he'll get priced out of our consideration.

    Kwan is a good comp, his 2021 was similar to Frelick's 2022, though Frelick was a year younger. I'd be quite happy if Frelick could hit .298 in 2023. Since they didn't promote him at the end of 2022, I think the Brewers will be cheap and delay his promotion until they have him for another year. And keeping Renfroe would be wise; they can make room by trading Taylor..

    You can't count on Bell to actually be good, as he has frequently shown in the past, including after he was traded.

    If they don't think Boxberger is worth 2.25M, I can't see them thinking $3.1M is worthwhile for Suter, who pitched in lower-leverage innings. Unless they negotiate a contract cheaper than that.

    There's zero reason for the Brewers to sign Bell, unless they make a trade. Abreu is a much better hitter.

    The "buts" are hugely important in prospect evaluation. Recency of production is important. Age of the prospect relative to average age in the league is important. A guy who can strike out 13+ guys per 9IP is going to be a prospect even if he hasn't got good command (or a 3rd pitch) yet.

    the reason isn't clear to me either, if there is a good reason.

    I searched and found a story on USA Today site that made no mention of that, though it did have something I didn't know--the player has to be on one of the 3 top-100 prospect lists (ESPN, BA, MLB.COM) before the season. Frelick certainly will be; not so sure about Turang, Mitchell, Ruiz.

    I don't recall that, but if it's true you put him on the opening day roster for a day, then recall him later.

    I wonder about signing Longoria and him taking Brosseau's place on the 26-man roster. I don't think you can count on him to be available for the whole season, but he could produce when he plays.

    I'm on the fence about Brosseau. Wondered whether signing Longoria would be an option.

    The only reason that Turang shouldn't break spring training with the Brewers is to delay his start to keep him around for another year before FA. So maybe have a AAAA guy start out with the Brewers, and promote Turang at the first date possible. He doesn't need to be up with the team for the entire season to become one of the top 3 in ROY voting--that will be determined by how well he plays once he's up.
