  1. I really don't see the point in arguing what to do with Hiura until the offseason.
  2. Definitely not. We have one starting pitcher who has been healthy and consistently good during the last couple of months. We might need a 6th starter once or twice when there are no off days during a week. Plus, we are no longer in the 1970s.
  3. I hope "Pirates Falter" is foreshadowing for this evening's game.
  4. You are sincerely great at coming up with things that defy occam's razor, on both sides of an argument. Bravo.
  5. I was applying Occam's razor, you were applying your preconceived notions.
  6. No it just means no one wanted to give what the Brewers wanted to get. Unless you find some insider who said the Brewers were actively trying to shop Hiura, you don't have the basis for your assertion.
  7. That would be great if they could contribute, but it's not really required to enter into the calculations, which should be simple. If we "bring all the boys back" next year, we should be a contender for a playoff position.
  8. Anyone on a ledge? The suicide prevention hotline is 988.
  9. I guess it depends on what you think is a good return. The evidence for it NOT happening is that I'm sure several teams made inquiries about Burnes this past offseason and before the deadline, and none of the offers were good enough to take. I'm sure the return would be significant, and more than we'd get by letting him go FA at the end of 2024. But would it be more valuable than going far in the playoffs in 2024? Depends on how much you'd value that.
  10. ONLY if they get a good return. Not a guarantee.
  11. Urias certainly had a greater chance to contribute in 2023, so Blaylock's value is in the future. The cost of that is that someone won't make the 40 man roster in the offseason because Blaylock will.
  12. time to hire Gillooly.
  13. I think we got a bit more value from this trade, but the consequence--if they put him on the 40 man in the off season--is that some guy that several people love will NOT be on the 40 man and will potentially be lost.
  14. an OBP of .101 over BA is pretty darn good.
  15. Anyone know if the Aparicio and Tovar in DSL are related to the MLB greats with those surnames?
  16. why would you think that he'll hit like he did for the first month of the season? You think the injuries will snap him out of his funk? Of course it could happen. But it's very unlikely, and no one should count on it.
  17. If Rowdy is the answer, you're asking the wrong question. He had been terrible even before he was injured. Sure, we can expect some regression to the mean, but we can't expect him to actually be a quality hitter. Might happen, but there is a good chunk of terrible performance that suggests it's not likely for the rest of this season. I see absolutely no reason to have more faith in him than any of the guys hitting around .300 in AAA (or Black in AA), including Hiura, whom you seem to have a vendetta against.
  18. The only thing that makes sense with regard to how the Brewers are treating Hiura is: 1) They value him enough to pay him some good coin to be in AAA. 2a) They value him enough that they didn't want to bring him up for a short while and require to expose him if they sent him down. 2b) Meaning they'll only bring him up after the trading deadline, if at all. 2c) They don't have confidence that he would hit well enough to keep his 26-man slot if they did bring him up. 3) They were keeping him around and probably would have eventually brought him up if they didn't acquire a 1B or DH. ---------- Can they trade him to some team that will give him ABs for the rest of the year? It seems the best thing for both parties.
  19. This just in: EVERY GM is looking for someone to "blow them away" with a deal for anyone on their roster. Not News.
  20. You guys are bad at feeding the troll. This site is full of guys who can graciously be called "contrarian thinkers," including some that write articles for the site, but recognize a troll when you see one.
  21. Arenado has a no-trade clause. He's only going where he wants to go.
  22. Typical rookies suck. Anyone who has written off Turang simply is unaware of history. He might never be an all star, but barring injury or emotional breakdown, he should be a solid major leaguer. His BABIP is .251. Increase that to normal levels and he should be batting .240, which everyone should be fine with, for a rookie. Having said that, I would also send him down and bring up Toro or Urias.
  23. Sell high? :-)
  24. I think your perspective is based on the past, not current productivity by Chourio. On July 4 he was hitting .247 with a .303 OBP. Underwhelming, but good considering his age. Now he's hitting .279 with a .331 OBP. No one should be thinking he's mediocre at this point.
  25. If a team doesn't take him, he'll obviously fall one to many slots. I can't understand why a team couldn't extract a reduced bonus of at least one slot later. When it's more than that, the player/agent must anticipate falling much later if not selected by that team.
