  1. I'm not attacking you personally whatsoever. In fact, I'm not attacking you at all, and I appreciate the article and the discussion it provokes. I just completely disagree that Eflin is a clear upgrade over Lauer and Ashby, when that's far from the case. Over the past two seasons, Lauer has thrown 277.1 innings with a 119 ERA+ and a 3.7 bWAR. Eflin, meanwhile, hasn't even pitched 200 innings and has been just barely over league average in those innings with a 101 ERA+. Yes, his FIP is better, largely due to Eflin's superb walk-rate, but FIP evens out over the course of multiple seasons, and the best ERA Eflin has posted in his career was 3.97 during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Moreover, Milwaukee and Philadelphia are virtually identical in HR and wOBA park factor. So, it's unlikely that Eflin's ERA would improve that much. Again, Ashby is young and as talented as any pitcher we have. He needs to develop in the rotation at this point. And, even despite his youth and inexperience, his projected stats for next season are better than Eflin's.
  2. In what world would you take Eflin over Lauer in a full season? Eflin hasn't ever been as good as Lauer has been over the past two years. And you do realize how talented and young Ashby is right? Here's his projection stat-line next year, per Steamer: 127 IP, 9.81 K9. 3.72 BB, 3.41 ERA, 3.37 xFIP, 2.1 fWAR. No way do you sign an Eflin or Stripling to limit his innings. He's still developing and has as much potential as anyone in our rotation, including Burnes.

  6. Uribe's stuff is second to none for a reliever and he's literally just coming off a dominating performance in the AFL after being injured for essentially the whole season. No way he's making it through Rule 5 or waivers.

  8. Agreed. A Lauer trade, in particular, makes sense with Ashby ready to step into the rotation and Gasser due to follow. We can always sign a Jordan Lyles for depth.

  10. Turang and Uribe were expected. Both of them would be sure-fire selections by another team in the Rule 5 draft. Looking forward them making an impact starting next year. Somewhat surprised they didn't protect Cam Robinson. He's another flamethrower who could potentially make an impact next year and serves as relief depth. Guess we'll have to cross our fingers that he isn't selected. I'm indifferent on the other guys and wouldn't be that disappointed to see them go. Valerio is one of the more overrated guys in our system imo.

  12. Also, I should add that Rosenthal mentions the Hader trade as a first-hand learning opportunity for Arnold and is likely to affect how he approaches building next year's roster.

  14. Add Robert Murray (former Brewers beat reporter) and Ken Rosenthal to the growing list of insiders who are saying that the Brewers are likely to build around Burnes, Woodruff, Adames, and not trade any of them this offseason. https://fansided.com/2022/11/15/mlb-free-agency-updates-early-trade-candidates/ https://theathletic.com/3896331/2022/11/14/rosenthal-mlb-free-agency-rumors/

  16. Not a lot considering he finished with a negative WAR this season and is now undergoing knee and neck surgeries....
  17. Not even halfway there....
  18. I'm just going based on BTV. I do agree that his value should be lower based on the fact that he hasn't been an every day catcher in his career. The Narvaez comparison doesn't really work, though. Jansen hits the ball a lot harder and more often than Narvaez. Even when when Narvaez was hitting 20 HRs with Seattle, that was with well below average hard hit metrics and was largely a product of the juiced ball.
  19. Look at BTV. And then look at Jansen's WRC+ compared to all catchers with more than 200 at-bats. He'll be a popular commodity on the trade market.
  20. Garrett Mitchell (maybe Esteury Ruiz?) and another higher-end piece potentially gets you Jansen (a Wisconsin native). Kirk would require you to add Frelick or Woodruff, while Moreno can probably only be had in a Burnes trade.
  21. Henderson is a franchise lynchpin for them alongside Rutschman. They have no reason to trade 6 years of him, regardless of whether he becomes a shortstop or third baseman, for 2 years of Burnes, as elite as he is. Hence, why he's more valuable according to BTV. Prospect lists aren't just about talent, they're also about the likelihood of success, A #1 prospect such as Henderson is not just incredibly talented, but he's also extremely likely, moreso than other prospects, to fulfill his potential.

  23. Cause he failed so totally at being a GM that he had no place else to run.
