  1. This! Thank you.
  2. Chourio is not even a consideration this season at the MLB level. Don't know why you're even mentioning him. So, you're smarter in assessing Perkins' abilities than actual executives throughout baseball? Got it. Overall, Perkins is a guy with an intriguing skillset who demonstrated significant development with the bat last season. His defense and walk-rate provide provide him with a higher floor than most AAA outfielders. I can see why the Arnold and Co. wanted him.
  3. = From MLBTR. Excellent defensive outfielder with speed who gets on base consistently and made tangible improvements in the power department last season. Seems like a good depth signing to me. The reason they gave him a major league contract was to ensure that they signed him, as there was almost certainly significant interest from other teams. But we'll see how long he lasts on the 40 man roster. There wouldn't be much of a price to pay if they did decide to jettison him at some point.
  4. Walks a ton and plays great defense with good speed. That's valuable to have coming up from AAA if they ever did need him due to injuries/underperformance. Also, just because they sign him to a major league contract doesn't mean he's going to be on the 40 man come opening day.
  5. Okay. But he's still behind Yelich, Taylor, Mitchell, Ruiz, and. almost certainly, Frelick in the pecking order. AAA depth, which is good to have. He also has an intriguing skillset with a high OBP and a great glove/speed.
  6. Perkins isn't going to be taking playing time from them. He has options remaining and is almost certainly headed to AAA. Depth is a good thing.
  7. A major league deal doesn't mean much if the players still has options, which Perkins does. Rather, the major league contract provides an advantage over other teams in signing the player. Perkins almost certainly had interest from other teams on a minor league contract, so the Brewers decided to ensure that they signed him by offering him a major league contract. In all likelihood, Perkins goes to AAA to help replace the expected exodus of our top outfield prospects.
  8. Nice win. Wasn't pretty whatsoever, but could make a difference come Selection Sunday.
  9. Kirk is literally an all-star with four years of control remaining…It’s crazy to think we could get a guy like him without including a player the caliber of Mitchell

  11. Not only doesn't that Devin trade not make sense given that he has three whole years of control left, but it's also not even close to enough for one of the best relievers in baseball. The Twins would have to give us Rodriguez, Julien, or Lewis to make a trade worth it. And even then, we'd be decimating our bullpen.
  12. Woah. Just relying on FIP to assess Lauer's performance over the past two years is dangerous. FIP should ideally be used in concert with other measures, such as ERA+/-, etc. So, by ERA-, for example, Lauer finished: 30th among pitchers with at least 90 IP in 2021, a high #2. 61st among pitchers with at least 90 IP in 2022, a high #3. By actual production over the past two years, Lauer is ranked 39th, just behind Gerrit Cole and Chris Bassett, and good enough for a #2 starter. So, split the difference with FIP and Lauer has indeed been an elite #4 starter for us and would be a solid #3/#2 on a lot of teams.

  14. Agreed. Seems like that starts with ditching the 2-seamer, which had less than a 10% whiff rate, in favor of the 4-seamer, which induced whiffs more than 30% of the time with a significantly lower xSLG. Just don't make the same mistake I did and get unnecessarily peeved because you looked at the stats for the wrong Javy Guerra. lol
  15. .2 Career WAR. 0 HRs last season in 152 PAs. Essentially limited to first base, and not a great one at that. No thanks. 2020 looks like a short-season fluke.
  16. True, there's conceivably room for Tellez and one of the other. The thing is, though, that Abreu and Bell are projected to be just as bad of defenders as Tellez at 1B, so we wouldn't be upgrading on defense. I am also someone who thinks we should move Yelich to DH semi-permanently, which a signing of one of those guys would prevent. IMO, catcher and the bullpen are more of a priority at this point.

  18. Come on. It's an innocuous, playful article that seeks to provoke discussion at an otherwise quiet point in the offseason. For someone who complains incessantly about condescending speak, you sure do have an interesting habit of actually being condescending towards others. Like, we're all Brewers fans here, and a single word in an offseason article should not be enough to question that.

  20. I'm not sure Walsh is an upgrade over Rowdy, particularly the version of Rowdy we're likely to get next season with the shift ban and a reversion to the mean for his BABIP. Walsh had an outstanding 2021, no doubt, but the underlying numbers weren't great, and he followed that up by striking out 30% of the time this year. Compare that to Rowdy's 20% K rate the past two years....
  21. The more I look at it, the less I'm convinced that Josh Bell would be an upgrade over Rowdy Tellez. For example, Rowdy is projected by Steamer to have the same wRC+ as Bell and a higher WAR than Bell. Even Abreu would only be a relatively marginal upgrade. Rowdy is set to be perhaps the biggest beneficiary in baseball of the shift ban, in addition to a likely reversion to the mean with his BABIP. So, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to use our limited resources to shore up a different aspect of the team, perhaps C, RP, or SP depth...

  23. True. Though, it's not that much different from Hiura's, who I suspect Singleton would be replacing if he's indeed kept on the 40 man through spring training.

  25. Not to mention the ability to draw over 100 walks and get on base, which this team struggled to do this season aside from Yelich.
