  1. That’s what I hope likewise. Taylor would have at least given us production roughly comparable to Renfroe (better defense, worse bat) whereas Naquin was below replacement level last season. He’s okay in small doses because he’s a decent to good hitter against RHP, but anything more than that and we could be in trouble. Hopefully Taylor gets healthy and Frelick comes up and performs and then we can stop worrying.
  2. Yeah, I’m pretty sure. Taylor doesn’t have sharp splits and was already an everyday-type player last season. It wasn’t even a guarantee that Naquin made the OD roster as a NRI. And if he did, I don’t think he would’ve gotten all the at-bats against RHP that he presumably will now.
  3. Watch the Cardinals go with Walker as their OD starting RF, while we keep Frelick and Wiemer down until June so we can not only get that extra year of control, but also save Mark $ in a few years.
  4. Frelick and Naquin aren’t comparable in terms of their ability to play CF. Naquin is legitimately bad in RF and even worse in CF. Frelick, meanwhile, is rated by prospect outlets as above average, with FanGraphs being a clear outlier. He’s not quite at the ability of Mitchell, but he‘s more than capable of playing there at this point.
  5. Difference is Naquin would have played less with Taylor. His bat against RHP is more useful in short stints. Over the long run, he’s barely above replacement level. In your scenario, Naquin will get pretty much all of the ABs in RF vs RHP. There’s a reason why he was available as a NRI so late in the off-season.
  6. I think he earned a spot on the OD roster with his performance in AAA last year. But I suspect the FO is going to keep him down to gain the extra year of service time, which would be a mistake imo. As for the Kwan comparison, it’s worth noting that while Kwan may hit the ball in the air more, Frelick is faster and hits it with more authority. Keith Law brought up Alex Bregman as a comparison with regard to Frelick’s small stature and power potential. I think that would represent the best outcome for the Brewers, and one I could easily happening with Am Fam’s short porch in right. Not 30 HR power, but maybe a season or two over 20.
  7. I liked Naquin a lot more when paired with Taylor. Now, I’m not so sure, as his defense and hitting vs. LHP are so bad that he’s been barely above replacement level. I hope to God that, if the team is going to play service time games with Frelick, it’s only to the middle of April and not until June.
  8. Best we can probably do prospect-wise at this point is: Holiday, Miller, Tiedemann, etc.
  9. Thing to remember is that Taylor was going to be the backup CF, too. That hurts a guy like Naquin, who is pretty much limited to the corners. Frelick would be a great fit in that sense with the ability to play all 3 OF positions. Would be even better if he hit right-handed, but that’s getting greedy.
  10. Probably. Frelick will have an advantage over others such as Naquin if he is indeed able to play all three OF positions. Otherwise, we really lack a backup CF…
  11. They definitely seem want his bat in the lineup, perhaps starting on Opening Day following the Taylor injury.
  12. I think the Braves have shown the Brewers the way here. Bring guys up when they're ready and quickly sign them to team-friendly extensions once they've demonstrated that they can perform at the major league level. Then service time considerations become irrelevant.
  13. It’s really hard to say that when this team has consistently outperformed its run differential and xW/L throughout Counsell’s tenure. He’s considered within the industry to be one of the very best managers in baseball, and any team with a vacancy would be all over him. It would be a huge mistake for this franchise to let him go, so long as he wants to stay here.
  14. I suppose we could get by with Naquin for a few weeks. But if Taylor is going to be out for longer they should really go with Frelick, who is as ready as it gets from a hitting standpoint. The FO would be walking a very fine line between trying to go for it and trying to manipulate service time and save $ if it decided to keep Frelick down until June. If Frelick is as good as we think he is, we can offer him an early extension anyways a la the Braves. Not to mention we could potentially be in line for draft pick compensation. There’s a time to play games as a small market; this isn’t one of those imo.
  15. I know. Never said he was going to play SS. Meant 2B (with Vargas). Rojas will play SS.
  16. I’d put him in for the injured Tyrone Taylor and bat him leadoff. Otherwise, we’re looking at a lot of Tyler Naquin/Brian Anderson…
  17. Maybe. But I don't see it following the Tyrone Taylor injury. 46 games of extremely high level hitting is more than enough imo, particularly for a prospect with his hit tool.
  18. Yeah. Pretty much zero baseball reason for Frelick to be in AAA at this point. He could hit at the top of the order right now.
  19. My bad. It does look like Lux was going to be the starting SS, and that Rojas was going to be a utility infielder. I meant Busch would see time at 2B. They have him and Vargas ready and available there. Adames won't be traded until the deadline at the earliest.
  20. I doubt it. Lux wasn't going to play SS anyways, and they have a top 100 prospect in Michael Busch who is ready. If we're out of contention at the deadline, then that's a different story...
  21. No more hilarious than posting an article from way back in October to back up your claim that the A's aren't moving to Las Vegas. Or being naive enough to think that the Brewers won't up and leave to larger, more profitable markets such as Charlotte, Nashville, etc. in the absence of funding for Am Fam renovations. Or thinking that the $290 million "saved" will actually be spent by the state in a more productive manner. You seem to have a hard time grasping the fact that the state of Wisconsin, as the landlord, is contractually obligated to come up with the necessary maintenance costs and to ensure that Am Fam is in the top 25% of stadiums. The 5-county tax was terminated, and as a result, the Stadium District doesn't have the funds to make the necessary renovations. That doesn't mean the state should hand Mark A. a blank check, but it is on the hook here, whether partially or outright.
  22. Yep. Funny thing is the fastball, which is 70/80, isn't even Uribe's best pitch.
  23. Could take our bullpen to a whole new level if the control gains he showed in the AFL are for real.
  24. I’m assuming that even though he’s not on the roster or an NRI that we’ll see Chourio in a spring game considering Herbert Pérez, Blavk, etc. played today?
