  1. This is one of the most interesting ballots in recent years imo. No first-ballot locks and all the steroid guys have been cleared off the ballot, except for Manny and A-Rod. Then, you have guys like Rolen, Helton, Wagner, and Jones, who have gained votes in recent years and seem to be making headway towards eventual induction. Unfortunately, a shut-out still seems to be the most likely scenario, though if anyone's going to get inducted, it looks like it would be Helton and/or Rolen. Both would be very deserving in my view.
  2. Yeah, we'll see what the Brewers do with Frelick. My money is still on him being on the OD roster due to the draft-pick incentive, but an extra year of control is valuable as well. But, like you say, Mitchell has the inside track.
  3. Out of all of our outfield prospects, Mitchell is the one I'm leery of the most and the one I'm most willing to part with. Yes he's awesome in the OF and possesses above average raw power, but he'll never tap into that raw power unless he completely changes his swing and the K rate for a guy who relies on his speed is alarming. Man, would I love to get Edward Cabrera from the Marlins for him... That being said, I agree that you can pretty much pencil him into CF on Opening Day as he already has that MLB experience and didn't fall flat on his face (at least according to the surface level stats). Though, the Brewers do have an incentive to play Frelick right away as a top 100 prospect who could realistically be in contention for ROY....
  4. Ewww. I wouldn't have signed him to play 3B. Luis Urias is a better, cheaper option.
  5. I'd do 2 with a lottery ticket added, but not 1 or 3...
  6. That’s what I’m hoping, but I’m starting to get pessimistic. Would be a real shame if we stay around $20 million below last year’s payroll in the likely final season of Burnes, Woodruff, and Adames.
  7. Too bad the Twins already spent their money on Joey Gallo…
  8. Winker is likely to be a DH predominantly. He’s our replacement for McCutchen.
  9. Yeah. Supposedly it’s a “55 percent chance” that he stays with the Mets, which is basically where you’re saying. But to me that seems down from what it was a few days ago and could dwindle even further the longer this goes on. With how quiet the Dodgers have been this off-season and their glaring hole at SS, I’d be tempted to put my money there if 2017 never happened.
  10. I think he’d fit as a guy to replace Rowdy at 1B against LHP and rotate in RF with our youngsters. Plus he’ll be another year removed from cancer treatment. But anything over $10 million and I’m not interested.
  11. I've been mostly in a wait-and-see mode given that it's still December, but with the way this FA market is moving, I'll admit that I'm starting to get quite depressed at the thought that the Brewers may be the only team that enters spring training without spending a single cent on FA...The only guys that are left that I'd really want are Longoria, Mancini, Chafin, and Moore.
  12. The longer this drags out, the more I doubt Correa actually becomes a Met. Anyone else getting this vibe? And then supposedly other teams have begun to contact the Correa camp...
  13. This thread was created to report on a baseball news event. And it has largely stayed on track about baseball. The thread you created was, "SHOULD the Brewers sign Trevor Bauer?". That's a normative/subjective question that unsurprisingly went off the rails given the subject matter. You're comparing apples to oranges here. Maybe @Brock Beauchamphas a different opinion, but at least that's the way I see it.
  14. I'm thinking the latter given that he'll be hitting in more cavernous T-Mobile. Am Fam was about as friendly as it gets for his particular swing.
  15. Thank God it looks like we'll actually have a spring game this year to see with our own eyes how the QB situation is taking shape. Just another reason to be pissed at Paul Chryst...
  16. I don't think so. What you almost certainly saw was a guy being naturally emotional after being traded from the only organization he has ever known and one he won a WS with. I'm sure he's back home in Venezuela enjoying the offseason, which is why we have yet to hear from him. No reason to be worried about a Sheffield situation right now.
  17. Absolutely no surprise that it's the Hader trade. That one might be tough to top for a while. Sucks how it turned out. But I'm happy to have Contreras and Gasser.
  18. I would wait into this season before offering an extension given that he has 5 more years of control remaining. We need to see how he adapts after his "rookie" (I know, not technically) season and to his new surroundings. But if he goes ahead and immediately starts reproducing last year's numbers, then lock him up ASAP. I get we have Quero in the pipeline, but there's the DH and God knows we're desperate for hitters, particularly ones who crush LHP...
  19. I never anointed him as a savior. That's just putting words in my mouth. I don't know how you can say fandom is tainting my views either when I'm literally just regurgitating widely available stats. All of which, aside from 2022 (where Hiura had almost 300 less plate appearances), say that Winker is a superior hitter. And the two season previous to that, Winker was a top 15 hitter in the entire game. Nor was he even "horrendous" last season. Statistically, he was an above average hitter (109 wRC+). We do have to wait and see how he responds to surgery, but I see no reason not to be optimistic given that he's only 29...God knows we can use his high OBP/low K profile in this lineup at the bare minimum.
  20. Steamer Projections for 2023: Winker: .249/.355/.424 (122 wRC+) Hiura: .215/.298/.408 (99 wRC+) Renfroe: .240/.304/.468 (116 wRC+) Wong: .251/.323/.387 (109 wRC+) Probably a conservative estimate for Winker, too, given his career line....
  21. Better than McCutchen. Hiura also got like 300 less at-bats...Given his K rate and other metrics, he likely would've fallen below Winker, too.
  22. Yeah, I forgot about LaCrue. I'm intrigued about his upside, but I would probably rank him last in terms of likelihood to be the starting QB in 2023. They did look improved. Dike arguably should have had a KO return for a TD. I'm all for our ST no longer costing us games. The Anthony Lotti debacles (who drops the ball during a punt?) in the BIG championship and the Rose Bowl still give me nightmares.
  23. It will be interesting to see how the QB situation plays out now that it looks like Wolf is returning for a 6th year. He's got a lively arm and is more of a dual threat; I'll give him that, but his decision-making and propensity to throw the ball up for grabs have me seriously questioning whether he can be the full-time starter. He is what he is at this point... It's a shame we didn't get to see Burkett at all. I was intrigued enough with what I saw in his token appearance in the New Mexico State game that I would have loved to see him get an extended run of game time. Oh well, that's what the resurrected spring game will be for...(seriously a disgrace that PC ever axed it in the first place) Evers is the favorite for the job imo as one of the top signal-callers from the 2022 recruiting class. Oklahoma didn't see enough to play him on what was their worst team in a while, but what true freshman is ready to start right away for a big-time P5 program? He's certainly got all the tools... Supposedly we are still in on Armstrong, but he looks destined for NC State or another non-Badger program at this point. There are also other options out there, like Spencer Sanders, but the chances of us landing a proven P5 starter that is a clear upgrade are low imo.
  24. A typical Badgers non-NY6 bowl game. Seems like they always care about these things more than the other team and it shows on the field. Not exactly a bad thing, though. Chase Wolf lookin pretty good after that terrible int. in the end zone.
  25. We should've asked for the Braves extension negotiators instead of William Contreras...Could've helped us with Willy, Corbin, and Woody. Man, that's a steal of a contract for the Braves.
