  1. Maybe not a "casual racist", but Renfroe being difficult in the clubhouse would make the 5 teams in 5 years thing more sensical....He did give off an odd vibe in interviews. Overall, I don't know what to think. Some of the nuggets (e.g. Contreras trade) seem to breathe an air of truth, but others (e.g., Yelich at 1B, fixed roof) are quite out there...I'm guessing this guy does work in the FO, but is embellishing somewhat so as to make him seem more important than he actually is. That's only human nature....
  2. Yeah, the projection on Devin Williams is way too conservative. It’s been three straight seasons of top 5/3 relief work from him. I’m actually really glad that he’s pitching in the WBC this spring as he’s started slow the last two years before going on to dominate the rest of the season. Hopefully, that experience will enable him to start faster from the closer role. I still think we’re a set-up man short of having a great bullpen. I like Bush/Strzlecki a lot better in the seventh inning then in the eighth. Unfortunately, no one left on the FA market who could fit in that role, with the possible exception of Chafin. Look out for Abner Uribe. I could see him having a 2020 Devin Williams-style breakout if the control gains he showed in the AFL are for real.
  3. Obviously I’m not changing your mind on Chapman’s baseball abilities at this point (and that’s okay), but that’s a totally false (and somewhat disturbing) equivalency you just tried to draw between Hader and Chapman. Besides Hader being squarely in the middle of his prime and Chapman being entirely outside his, their off the field history is nothing alike. Hader’s Twitter posts, while obviously completely wrong, occurred when he was a teenager. Chapman, on the other hand, was a full-fledged adult when he DREW AND FIRED A GUN ON HIS FAMILY and put his girlfriend into a chokehold. But totally similar situations… Nor should we pretend that Hader reportedly insisting that he pitch the 9th inning for financial reasons is the same as literally QUITTING ON YOUR TEAM and flying off to a different state right before the postseason… Do you think we should go ahead and sign Trevor Bauer, too? Anyways, I like and agree with what you post generally and will just have to accept that we don’t see eye to eye on Chapman the baseball player. But there is no equivalency between Josh Hader the person and Aroldis Chapman the person.
  4. I don't think it's that debatable to say that he has a lot more going against him (age, peripherals, velocity, injury issues, etc.) at this point than he has going for him (throws upper 90s?). And then he's a clubhouse cancer and domestic abuser on top of that...Waayy too much baggage for a team like the Brewers.
  5. The only thing Chapman would add to this team is increasing the number of people who like to draw and fire guns on their girlfriends by 100%...
  6. Yes. Because strikeout rate is all that matters...And ignoring the greater context of the overall decline in his K% since 2020, culminating in his career low 26.9 K% this past season, to go with a career high (and bottom 1%) BB% and an increasing hard hit rate. HOF reliever? I guess, if you consider Craig Kimbrel, who has been better, to be a HOF reliever. All that should matter, though, is how he's pitching right now, which is quite far from a HOF level... Throws in the upper 90s? So do many relievers in MLB nowadays. Jandel Gustave, anyone? If we're going to sign Chapman, we might as well sign Trevor Bauer...
  7. You can ultimately have whatever opinion you want. But a 35-year old Chapman is unlikely to fortify much of anything. It's called decline. He's striking out as few batters as he EVER has. He's walking as many batters as he EVER has (1st percentile). And batters are hitting the ball increasingly hard against him. An ominous combination. Not to mention he's a terrible person and cancer in the clubhouse. "Once-in-a-generation" "Unicorn" "Best since Pedro". All are words which have been used to describe Devin's changeup. At the very least, maybe you can just let me have this particular opinion...
  8. He didn't go to a different state school. UNL is the University of Nebraska.
  9. Except it's not just last year that his peripherals/metrics fell off. Notice a trend since 2020? Everything is going in the wrong direction... Chapman is going to be 35 by opening day. It's almost certainly more than just injuries, and he's not suddenly going to become less injury prone the older he gets. How is saying Williams' changeup/airbender is a once-in-a-generation type of pitch "hyperbolic"? It's an 80-grade pitch, the literal definition of generational. Probably the best changeup since Pedro. Certainly more than just "plus". I'm not going to pretend the velocity drop isn't a little concerning (he never hit 99 on a consistent basis FWIW--2020 avg. velocity was 96.7, two pitches at 99), but his peripherals and metrics were absolutely masterful last year (aside from BB%). Like 99/100th percentile across the board...Even more dominant than Hader since 2020...
  10. Chapman has a declining velocity problem as well, FWIW (not to mention rapidly dwindling peripherals). At least Williams' once-in-a-generation pitch doesn't rely on velocity... Chapman is caked in dynamite at this point. I don't see anything to suggest that he'll be returning to dominance any time soon.
  11. The reason Hiura is jerked around at positions is because he's a terrible fielder....I disagree with how stubborn the team was in batting Cutch cleanup against RHP, but I don't think it was the difference in us missing the postseason. We missed the playoffs because of injuries and underperformance in our pitching, as well as a downturn in our fielding.
  12. I think he's done, but we'll see. More games he blows for the Phillies, the better our playoff chances will be.
  13. Just above Brett Phillips and just below Joey Gallo. Not good company to keep. Especially if you walk as infrequently as Keston does.
  14. Precisely. Why I think Rodgers is staying next year, too. They'll try to run it back with a different D-Coordinator (Leonhard?). Division remains there for the taking as the Vikings are as weak of an 11-3 team as I can remember. That's where the money points rn imo.
  15. Still can't believe we got William Contreras, who is likely better than Jansen and controllable for 5 years, and we severely underpaid. We could've easily gotten Jansen instead and probably would have had to part with Frelick-plus. Kudos to MA and co.
  16. That is a really good trade for the Diamondbacks. Varsho is not someone who hits the ball all that hard...He's an elite defender though.
  17. Especially when they have an assortment of plus to plus-plus young defensive outfielders...
  18. It's a very real possibility for sure, I'm just not convinced it's a given, with how well Bakhtiari has played when he's actually been on the field and the significant cap hit associated with a trade/release. And the appendectomy he's been sidelined with recently is just a freak thing...Maybe Bakhtiari agrees to a paycut to stay with ARod and prove to Packers nation he's still got it?
  19. Yes. Winker really is that bad in the OF...He's the replacement for McCutchen, who took up a significant majority of DH at-bats last season. You continue to assert he'll be playing mostly in RF, while virtually offering no evidence to corroborate that. As for Frelick, the Brewers can't have their cake and eat it too. If they want to make a real run at competing this season on the upside of their talented AAA prospects, then those players have to actually play, and not just wait until June to save $. Otherwise, they're putting themselves in a dangerous position where you're playing guys like Perkins and they risk ending up 10 games down. Could they wait until late April? Sure. But not June. Plus, with Frelick particularly, there's the possibility of gaining a bonus draft pick by finishing in the top 3 of the ROY. That's extremely valuable for a draft and develop team like the Brewers. I don't think anyone's saying Frelick is going to be as good as Carlos Correa, but he's a top 100/50 prospect with a 70-grade hit tool. Basically, Steven Kwan 2.0 (who coincidentally finished 3rd in the AL ROY vote).
  20. I would have taken him back, but not at that contract....Giants really spinning their wheels now
  21. Is it really a given we trade or release Bakhtiari? Yes, Tom's been great and the appendectomy has taken him off the field once again, but an appendectomy is a freak thing and Bakhtiari has been a top 10 tackle this year (per PFF). And then there's his relationship with our franchise QB.. With the cap hit being what it is, maybe they just opt for the depth along the O-line, unless they're able to trade Bakhtiari for a higher-end draft pick (unlikely)...
  22. You get the bonus pick by finishing in the top 3 of the ROY vote, not just by winning it. When you have a player with a 70 grade hit tool like Frelick that is clearly ready for the majors, I do think it becomes a consideration. Maybe not a decisive factor, but a factor nevertheless, especially for a small-market team like the Brewers that needs to draft well to win.
  23. Apparently the Orioles are the ones who would be "more likely to pass" on this offer...So sick and tired of this crap.
  24. Why do I have this sinking feeling he's going to sign with the Cardinals or Cubs....
