  1. Toro and Turang kind of make Peterson unnecessary. He'll definitely get a lot of playing time in Oakland. Thanks for the memories and good luck to him!
  2. This crap never ends....
  3. Thank you! The argument you are responding to is what the historians call "revisionism". Amazing how the Hader trade has warped some peoples' minds. Nobody is saying it proved to be a success, but let's at least stick to the facts here.
  4. It doesn't matter. It's all part of the record. You said he outperformed them. He literally didn't. That's just revisionism. If you take any relief pitcher's worst outings out of the equation, their numbers will obviously look much better. Again, we were under .500 from Labor Day to the deadline. That was WITH Hader. We then proceeded to win at the exact same pace without him. So, no, not having Hader didn't cost us the playoffs.
  5. I'd actually prefer Murphy or Kirk to Jansen, but those guys would cost significantly more. If you want to see what giving up the farm looks like...
  6. LOL. Cute little spin job. I never said I was willing to give up the farm for him. And I never said we should get him BECAUSE he's from Wisconsin. Only that I'd be willing to meet the price on BTV, which would require us to part with a Mitchell. And that him being from Wisconsin would be beneficial in trying to get him extended for an extra year or two so we don't lose him after 2 years and to help form a bridge to Quero (hopefully).
  7. We may not have a choice. Some of the bigger markets are sniffing around on Vazquez.
  8. Narvaez is a bad comparison. Jansen hits the ball a lot harder than Narvaez ever has in his career. Only reason Narvaez even hit 20 HRs was due to the juiced ball. Jansen's Statcast numbers disagree with you. I don't think he's likely to put up a 140 wRC+ again, but I agree with what Steamer has him projected for (120 wRC+). That's significantly better than what we got from the catching position this past year and what we'll get from the Caratini and Feliciano/Henry combo we have currently.
  9. Hader w/ Padres: 7.31 ERA, -1.0 WAR Rogers w/ Brewers: 5.48 ERA, -0.5 WAR Bush w/ Brewers: 4.30 ERA, -0.4 WAR Hader didn't outperform our "scrap heap" in deadline trade returns.
  10. Mitchell may have more raw power than Frelick, but Frelick has actually demonstrated more in game power than Mitchell in the minor leagues. And that's unlikely to change barring a complete swing alteration from Mitchell. Frelick is more than just a leadoff hitter. He's one of the best minor league hitters period. There's a reason why Frelick is a consensus top 100 prospect and Mitchell is not.
  11. We'll see. I do love the guy, but the sting would lessen for me by virtue of getting to raid the Dodgers' #1 farm system. He's not as irreplaceable as Burnes/Woodruff are imo.
  12. Dodgers and Yankees are conspicuously quiet...
  13. Have fun with that Phillies once Turner loses his speed...
  14. Vinicius Jr. and Neymar is simply unfair in attack.
  15. Yep. A guy like Danny Jansen will cost a non-trivial price in prospect capital, but that cost is well-worth it imo compared to going into the season with that particular set-up at C.
  16. Exactly. The better measure of Woodruff's value is the Castillo trade. And Woodruff is a better pitcher than Castillo...
  17. I'll gladly take Arraez off the Twins' hands. But I'm not giving up Burnes or Woodruff to do so. He's got a limited skillset (granted, a high-level one) and is only under control for three more seasons...
  18. BTV has Woodruff wayyyyy undervalued. No reason why Burnes should have more than double Woodruff's surplus value.
  19. If we go into the season with Caratini and Feliciano/Henry at C......
  20. Happy for McGriff. He deserves it. But it's a joke that Schilling didn't even get elected, as I was completely expecting Bonds and Clemens to fall short once again.
  21. Teams have literally called them about the Big 3 over the last few weeks. The offers obviously weren't to their liking and they still want to contend this year, so they subsequently withdrew them from the market. I wouldn't assume that they don't have a plan.
  22. Upgrade catcher and I'll be quite happy with where we're at lineup-wise. I personally think Turang is going to end up on the opening day roster. He's already spent a year and a half in AAA and has finally begun to show some signs of real power. Above all, though, he would be a huge upgrade over Wong on defense. With how heavily our team is built on run prevention, that could really prove to be the deciding factor. It seems to me like the FO's effort to trade Wong is more of an indication of the confidence they have in Turang to take over.
  23. Jesse Winker is not going to be our everyday right fielder under any scenario. They may try to put him in the OF from time to time to give Yelich the opportunity to DH, but even then, he would be limited to LF. He's literally the worst defensive outfielder in the major leagues.
  24. Thing about the Mets is I don't know if they have the players and prospects to offer us a "king's ransom" like a team such as the Dodgers does. Sure they have Francisco Alvarez, but their system is really lacking in high-level pitching, which we would presumably want if dealing Burnes or Woodruff.
  25. Except for the fact that we would have exclusive negotiating rights with Jansen as he would be under our control for the next two years. Given that he's a former 16th round draft pick who has made less than $5 million in his MLB career so far, as @sveumruleshighlighted, I think he would be quite tempted to take the life-altering, guaranteed money right away, especially when doing so would enable him to play close to home in front of his family and friends. To simply say "they go wherever the most money is" and "with their lifestyle they can live anywhere they choose to begin with" is very narrow minded and not necessarily in accordance with reality. Family and comfortability are often just as big of concerns for these guys as money. FWIW, I know for a fact that Jansen maintains a home in his hometown of Appleton. So, sure he can live anywhere he chooses, but he's literally already chosen Wisconsin as one of his places of residence.
