  1. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here. Though, I will note that, while he may throw a little harder, Miller has been a lot more hittable and has worse command than Tiedemann. And Tiedemann is not even that far off from Miller developmentally seeing as he ended the season in AA. Basically, the pitching version of Chourio. I just don't see any added risk there. On the whole, I see Moreno and Tiedemann (or Rodriguez and Holliday) presenting a lot less risk than Vargas, Miller, and Pepiot while being a significant upgrade in talent.
  2. Bobby Miller is the sexy name, but I would argue that Tiedemann has surpassed him as a prospect. He's three years younger than Miller and absolutely dominated while moving from low A all the way to AA. Meanwhile, Bobby Miller struggled in AA this year. With three plus to plus plus pitches and great command, Tiedemann might have the best upside-floor combo for a minor league pitcher this side of Grayson Rodriguez and Eury Perez. Again, as a small-market team, we shouldn't place too much of an emphasis on how close certain prospects are to the majors or what position they play. It should be about talent and upside. Doing otherwise is how you end up on the losing end of trades. Hence, if we're going to trade Burnes, a top 3 pitcher in the game with 2 full years of control, it has to be for premium talent. Moreno and Tiedemann, two premium minor league talents, would accomplish that better than a Dodgers trade sans Cartaya. Same with a Rodriguez and Holiday package from the Orioles.
  3. Philly crowd is absolutely electric tonight. Also, I love the interviews after big HRs Fox is doing this postseason.
  4. Honestly, with the Burnes trade, I'd just want to get as much high-level talent as you can, rather than worrying about how everything fits organizationally. That's how it needs to be for a small-market team. Cartaya is a future star. I'd want him and Miller, or conversely, Moreno/Kirk and Tiedemann if I'm going to deal Burnes at this point.
  5. The Blue Jays have a future potential TOR arm in AA by the name of Ricky Tiedemann, who was basically the pitching version of Chourio this year....Him and Moreno together would rival or exceed what the Dodgers could offer.
  6. We can get Vargas and Pepiot for Adames. If we're trading Burnes to LA this offseason, the deal needs to begin with Cartaya.
  7. I personally think it provides more of an impetus to get one of Woodruff or Burnes (probably Woodruff) signed to an extension ASAP. You can always go out and sign the Housers of the world, but we have two elite pitchers whose control is expiring and who are not as easily replaceable. It helps that we have Peralta and Ashby signed and Gasser waiting in the wings, but we'll still need a rotation anchor if we hope to capitalize on this next wave of young talent. Houser won't accomplish that and would amount to an unnecessary signing imo.
  8. Astros own the Yankees.
  9. Nice season opening win against the Sixers. Kind of let it get away from them in the 4th quarter after they had a chance to really blow the game open with Embiid on the bench, but credit to Harden who started making shots. Says a lot about how good this team is that we can win in this environment against a Sixers team with their full supporting cast absent Middleton and Connaughton. Also, funny to see Embiid get booed in the second game of the season by Philly fans. lol
  10. Okay. Yelich being a finalist is a complete joke. Burnes actually makes sense as he's very athletic and one of the best pitchers in the game at covering 1B imo. Still expect him to lose to Fried, the reigning back-to-back winner.

  12. Freddy has been borderline-elite as a starter over the last two years when healthy. There's very little upside to using him exclusively out of the bullpen, and all the upside to continuing to feature him in the front of the rotation. You just have to be more careful in managing his innings compared to Burnes and Woodruff. As for Ashby, he needs to learn how to walk the fine line between throwing strikes and making non-competitive pitches. Too many times he'll throw a non-competitive pitch during an at-bat to get behind in the count, and then when he manages to get to two strikes, will inexplicably throw a hittable pitch instead of a pitch on the corners or out of the zone. I'm confident he'll eventually get there, though, as his stuff is second-to-none.
  13. I agree with staying away from Contreras, not that we have a realistic chance at signing him anyways, but I completely disagree with giving Feliciano the starting catcher spot. He was atrocious on the defensive end in Nashville this season. Catcher is the position where you can least afford to sacrifice defense, and it's not like his offensive production has been great either.

  15. Well, I think I found the leading candidate for the worst proposed trade of the offseason (and it literally just started): Burnes to NYY for RHP Domingo German, SS Oswald Peraza, SS Trey Sweeney, RHP Will Warren Yankees fans really think they can get anything for their pile of scraps.... https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10052560-predicting-1-trade-for-every-mlb-team-during-the-2022-23-offseason
  16. "Quit using stats to back up a statement." Is this an actual thing now??
  17. it's not just Burnes. It's Burnes AND Adames. Which in value is basically equal to the Soto haul.
  18. They do have more total resources than we do, but it's not like they're signing big-money FA's left and right. All of their key position players (Altuve, Alvarez, Bregman, Tucker, Pena) were a developed by them, with Alvarez being the only one that they didn't originally draft/sign. The only major FA signing they've made in recent years was Brantley and even that wasn't really something that would be out of our price range. Not to mention they've had several core players price themselves out of town over the past few years (Springer, Correa, Cole, etc.). So, I largely disagree that it's their payroll. Rather, it's the system they've put in place that's allowed them to absorb these losses with literally zero impact to their overall success. Definitely something that we've attempted to emulate during Stearns' tenure in light of his previous experience in that FO. We just haven't had the same success in developing position player talent to this point. Hopefully, that starts to change with this exciting crop of prospects coming from Nashville.
  19. They got caught cheating in 2019? I thought the only verifiable proof of cheating came exclusively from their 2017 World Series team (i.e., the banging on the trash cans)...I personally haven't forgotten it for sure, but I've also come to appreciate how consistent and fundamentally sound they are. Something I hope for the Brewers to emulate.
  20. Yeah. Unless either suffers catastrophic injury, we have no reason not to expect more of the same going forward.

  22. The Astros just know how to get it done in the postseason. That they've managed to stay this consistently successful despite so many of the key principals from their 2017 World Series championship team having departed is a real testament to the system they've built. Please dial up your old front office pals Stearns and ask them for their secret!
  23. Not really a specific request, but just wanted to say I really like and appreciate the new payroll blueprint feature. More unique features along those lines would be great, as it provides us nerd fans with an intriguing way to pass the time during the offseason.
  24. Clearly you don't understand the difference between a mandate and a request. Generally, one of the basic rules of a forum is you stick to the topic at hand. Is that really too much to ask?
  25. No. But I created this thread to discuss the playoffs specifically, and don't think it's out of bounds for me to respectfully ask that of my fellow posters.
