  1. 6 much needed innings of shutout baseball from second half Freddy.
  2. Wouldn't be shocked if Frelick replaces Turang in the leadoff spot soon.
  3. Fangraphs uses OAA where Turang grades out a bit lower (4 OAA).
  4. Rangers won the WS last year with their first round pick hitting cleanup that no one had ranked period.
  5. Eric Brown Jr. was 2022 and he also allowed us to draft Misiorowski. Not looking good right now, but you have to look at both sides of the equation.
  6. I like to trust a FO that put together the top draft in the league last year. Or should we have just done what everyone else did then?
  7. In this draft, where there's so little separating 15 from 60, yes it does.
  8. Meccage is definitely going to be overslot. Nice, projectable arm with a big fastball and a great feel for spin. Brewers pick to a T.
  9. They're two picks into the draft with two more left tonight alone.....
  10. Mis, Wichrowski, Gasser, arguably Knoth, Henderson, and Letson. They're quite deep on intriguing upside arms at the moment.
  11. Looks like they went back and changed Jackson Chourio's 2nd AB on Tuesday from a reached on an error to an infield single. I suspected that would happen as he would have beat out the throw even if it was on target.
  12. Anyone watching the T Rats game and seeing if Ortiz is still doing that crazy open stance thing?
  13. I understand not pinch hitting for Perkins as Holderman is particularly tough on righties, but no excuse not to pinch hit for Frelick there. Not a banner day for Murphy.
  14. This is just insane stuff from Skenes.
  15. It sounds like the plan is for him to play one game tonight in Appleton and then return for the Nats series.
  16. Dang'it. Willy's just heating up in time for the All star break.
  17. Lol. It's just as hypothetical as it was in my initial post where I said "If Winker played 1B, he would actually make some sense." You then responded as if it wasn't a hypothetical. Even if you think he's lucky with his 20 point overperformance in wOBA he's still sporting a 70th percentile xwOBA. Which is well above average last time I checked. And, unlike Bauers, he has a history of well above average production.
  18. Here's a good one I was pondering at work today: How many more "good" starts from Misiorowski before you consider A) moving him up to AAA OR (and more controversially) B) skipping AAA entirely and giving him a shot at the show in light of the current issues on the big league staff. Stuff we know is ready to play at the big league level and he's demonstrated meaningful improvements to his control over the course of the season (from 7.09 BB/9 in April/May to 2.63 BB/9 in June/July).... And then an affirmative answer to B raises an entirely different question of how you best deploy him. As a starter? As a bulk relief guy, possibly in a piggyback role? Or in high-leverage relief?
  19. Looks like you're willing to die on this hill. I'll continue to indulge for now. First of all, I never said replace Bauers with Winker because I acknowledged that Winker doesn't play 1B which makes Bauers a better fit for this roster. Second of all, despite their identical xwOBA, Winker has clearly proven himself to be a better hitter and player, both for this season and career-wise. Winker (2024): 134 wRC+, 1.5 fWAR, Winker (career): 122 wRC+, 8.8 fWAR vs. Bauers (2024): 101 wRC+, 0.3 fWAR, Bauers (career): 86 wRC+, -1.0 fWAR. Statcast is awesome and quite the useful tool, but there's more to the game than living and dying by red and blue dots.
  20. No, I just picked the one stat that's all-encompassing and actually representative as to whether a guy is a good hitter relative to average. And that's just purely predictive.... According to the stats measuring actual production, such as wRC+ and OPS+, Winker is a well above average hitter. Both for this season and his career. If anyone's "picking stats" here it's you....Because hitters can have a below average bat speed or EV, for example, and still be good.
  21. People talk about Hiura getting irrational hate from the fanbase, but it seems Winker really did a number on folks, too. Like, yeah, he sucked last year but he also had a pretty solid excuse coming off major neck surgery. Glad that he's rediscovered his form.
