  1. The guys we got last offseason didn't pan out. I'll give you that. But Hiura also got injured right as they would've considered calling him up and by the time he was fully healthy, we had Canha and Santana.
  2. I have a feeling we'll win a WS one of these years and the only two things you'll care to talk about about are 1) the Hader trade and 2) Hiura.
  3. Hiura averaged more PAs/season with the Brewers than Winker did in his sole season....
  4. Honestly, the fact that they're having him test out 3B and 2B speaks a lot about their confidence in him to hit and rebound in the power department after his thumb injury. It's good to see.
  5. He'd probably bump up to Carlos Rodriguez/Josh Knoth territory on my list if these reports are accurate. With the potential to get into the top 5 if he transfers this into the season and repeats his statistical dominance from last year. Always been a Henderson fan. Brewers have done well taking pitchers in the 4th round.
  6. Brock, gotta say, with McCalvy on the shelf and the continuing lack of a Brewers beat reporter for the Athletic, I'm pretty jazzed about this. Looking forward to the coverage and content and thank you!
  7. Colt Keith is locked into 2B for them with the extension. Torkelson is already locked into 1B. And then Carpenter and Canha at DH. I would say there’s virtually no room available for him in DET barring injury.
  8. TBH only move I really need to see Frelick make is to the leadoff spot so Yelich can bat in the 3 hole.
  9. Ageed. A healthy Aaron Ashby gives me more confidence we’ll be able to put together an effective run prevention unit this year. His upside is topped by no one on this team other than Misiorowski, who’s a prospect and a NRI, and maybe Freddy and DL. Hopefully 2023 just ends up becoming a “lost year” you throw into the trash and nothing more.
  10. I honestly don’t think the Brewers are going to be relying on him to pitch5/6 good innings per start. It’s going to be more of a bulk relief type role where you don’t let him go through the order a 3rd time imo. Again, we should adjust our expectations for our starters this year. It’s going to look more like 18-19 and less like 2021-2023.
  11. I don’t think Ashby absolutely needs to start the season in the minors. If his velocity is back and he’s getting guys out, then I’d have no problem putting him in the OD bullpen. Ashby is on the shortlist of guys I’m really paying attention to this ST and caring about the stats.
  12. Also, waiting patiently (not) for the first Aaron Ashby update.....
  13. Spring Training 2024 is here and we need a thread. Behold this crazy extension from Mis!
  14. 40 man is full right now. I would imagine that is the holdup, as they need a corresponding move. Otherwise, something had to have come up in the physical.
  15. The chances of that barring injury are close to nil. He’s going to pitch for this team and cover some innings for a team that needs those innings.
  16. The key is it's only for two weeks..... The projections see all these guys having ERAs well under 5. https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=SP
  17. 1) Houser has only one year of control remaining. Otherwise, he would've been a FA this offseason, in which case we wouldn't have gotten anything for him... 2) I don't quite know what you're talking about with Taylor having more value than Houser. This shows the opposite....https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator 3) It's still value and is even more valuable to a small market franchise such as the Brewers that cannot afford to spend tens of millions on mediocre starters like many teams did this winter in FA. You should look up the story of Junior Caminero. Rays ended up getting a top 5 prospect in all of baseball for someone with "miniscule value". Not that the Brewers pulled off something similar with Coleman Crow or are likely to if/when they trade Gasser, but you still don't just sacrifice value because a guy isn't a Burnes or a Woodruff. 4) Finally, filling innings for two weeks while Gasser is in AAA is pretty straightforward actually: Peralta, Miley, Junis, Hall, Rea, Ross....
  18. Okay, 4-5 starter. Doesn't make a difference to me. The point remains: it is, quite possible, that the Brewers think they can get more from Gasser than that. There's a reason the Brewers were fine trading Hader despite getting a .5 season of Rogers, Lamet (who they immediately DFA'd), and Ruiz (who they proceeded to trade in the offseason). Even if we don't keep him and he's only a 4-5 starter, that's still trade value like with Houser that we can use to get value in return... Conversely, what's the cost of holding him down for a couple weeks....Pretty much zero.
  19. First of all, maybe the Brewers think he can be more than a 5 starter....BA has Gasser as a top 100 prospect for a reason. We're also talking about a mere couple of weeks here to gain an extra year of control, which is quite valuable (particularly so for a small market franchise), despite you trying to pretend otherwise.
  20. It's important to remember that occurred in a SSS, and while Frelick was still dealing with the lingering effects of a thumb injury. The very sort of injury that saps players of their power His 13% BB rate is more important imo when considering his leadoff potential.
  21. I trust the Brewers here as they know his medical sheet better than anyone.
  22. Here's Gasser's 3 year ZIPS projection, which is actually pretty conservative in terms of IP. It's not Burnes or Woodruff level, but it's incredibly valuable for a SM team like the Brewers.
  23. Have you seen the going cost for effective starting pitching in the FA market this year? 7 years of even a back end starter may not be gold, but it's like silver.
