  1. I think they’re going to wait to get the extra year of control. Unless there’s an injury in ST.
  2. I think Ashby will eventually join the rotation, though maybe not at the outset of the season. I think, if he's healthy and shows well in ST, he'll probably start by working out of the bullpen in multiple inning stints before making the transition to the rotation. I expect the OD rotation to be Burnes, Peralta, Miley, Rea, and Ross. Gasser starts in AAA and is first up in case of injury.
  3. Padres tried this very thing and came crashing back down to reality....There are in fact, limits. Even for billionaires (which MA isn't even).
  4. Ahh, now the shifting of the goalposts begins.
  5. Ignoring everything else here, am I crazy or did Mark not sign Lorenzo Cain to exactly that sort of contract?
  6. Updated Potential Lineup, with Steamer projections : 1. Frelick LF (projected 103 wRC+) 2. Contreras C (projected 120 wRC+) 3. Yelich DH (projected 116 wRC+) 4. Hoskins 1B (projected 115 wRC+) 5. Adames SS (projected 103 wRC+) 6. Black 3B (projected 104 wRC+) 7. Chourio CF (projected 93 wRC+) 8. Mitchell/Wiemer RF (GM career 117 wRC+ vs RHP; JW career 115 wRC+ vs. LHP) 9. Turang/Monasterio 2B (BT projected 88 wRC+; AM career 118 wRC+ vs. LHP) That's a good lineup with the potential to be elite if Chourio has a rookie season like Carroll, Julio, Tatis, Acuna, etc....
  7. Well, Nutting did say they're ready to compete. Must be his version of an "all-in" move.
  8. BP has Basallo at 13 and 70 OFP, so not really. If the O's wanted to offer us, say Basallo, Ortiz, and Povich for Freddy, I don't know how Arnold could say no.
  9. Basallo probably going to move off of C. To 1B or DH.
  10. Basallo's bat is that good,. Like Yordan level. BA thinks he could be the #1 prospect in baseball next year. #10 already. I'd take that next to Chourio even at 1B or DH.
  11. I'd give up Freddy for Basallo.... https://www.masnsports.com/blog/rolling-out-more-random-orioles-thoughts-and-observations
  12. That's exactly what I suspected what was happening with Frelick. A thumb injury really hurts a guy who had relatively little power to begin with. Expecting a nice season from him this year.
  13. Hmmm. Based on the lack of corner IF signings, it's possible the team views Wilken as having a chance to impact the big league club sooner rather than later.
  14. Because Hader just signed with the Astros.
  15. Not able to look up the numbers right now, but how about since 2020. I’d bet Devin is neck and neck with him. I know he’s beats him in ERA as Devin has the lowest career ERA in the live ball era.
  16. So the Astros ended up loaning him to us and the Padres for 8 years.
  17. In case anyone forgot, Jackson Chourio and Jeferson Quero are already on the roster, too. They were added this off-season.
  18. Cooper makes sense in a platoon role. Slashed .324/.375/.529 vs. LHP in 2023. We have Bauers and likely Black from the left side. In an everyday role, though, I'm a lot less interested. I agree that Hoskins and even Santana are more desirable.
  19. And probably the most anticipated date of the offseason for prospect nerds. The release of BA's top 100! https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2024-top-100-prospects/ (subscription required) 2. Chourio (One writer voted him #1) 32. Misiorowski 33. Quero (first name listed in a separate article re. who is primed to rise up the list in the coming year) 70. Black 98. Gasser
  20. They've been the lowest on Chourio for a while now. Only had him at 10 last year and 7 midseason. They're more of a scout the statline-type outfit compared to BA and MLB. Interestingly, they had Corbin Carroll at 6 last year, while everyone else had him at 2 so kind of a similar situation here. To say Chourio doesn't do anything better than Caminero, though, is just plain wrong. First of all, he makes more contact than Caminero. And then there's the whole baserunning and fielding thing, which he does a lot better than Caminero. Only thing Caminero actually does demonstrably better than Chourio is hit the ball harder. Also, I don't know how you justify Crews over Chourio, if you're going to move Langford all the way up to 2 on the basis of his 40 game sample size. Chourio's statline in AA was way better, and at 19 compared to Crews' 21. It's not egregious, but the process is part of why I think BP is lower quality than BA, MLB, and even Fangraphs.
  21. 6. Chourio 38. Quero 58. Black 63. Misiorowski Lowest I've seen on Chourio in a bit. Though, they have been the outlier in that regard among the major outlets. My biggest issue though would be Crews over Chourio. If you're going to move Langford up to #2 on the basis of his 40 game sample, then how do you justify Crews over Chourio, when Chourio is more than two years younger and had better numbers in AA? Otherwise, list looks about right. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/87663/2024-prospects-the-top-101/ (Subscription required)
