  1. Man if he can stick as a starter we may have gotten ourselves 6 more seasons of ace pitching for 1 year of an ace. Plus an Adames replacement and a 1st round draft pick!
  2. Quero is only 21 and evaluators have already labeled him the best defensive catcher in the minors. Defense gives you a major league floor on its own. Add to that elite for age EV and solid contact numbers and you've got a potential star. Catcher prospects are more hit or miss for sure, but Quero is as safe as it really gets for a 21 year old. And an extension gets you his prime years at a reduced cost.
  3. Frelick isn't a bopper, but he has enough power to be around a 2-3 win player on average (which he was on pace to do last year). Lingering thumb injury really sapped him of his power last year and his ability to turn on inside pitches as he had done successfully in the minors. With Mitchell and Wiemer, it's are they going to be able to make enough contact for the other parts of their game to even matter? Mitchell has an additional concern with his ability to elevate the baseball... Obviously you have to give those guys opportunities on the chance they do figure it out, but I think Frelick will prove the best value in the OF at the end of the day. Not a star, but a well above average MLB player.
  4. Quero's arm is as advertised.
  5. Difference is I think Frelick can actually hit in the bigs and I'm very much skeptical of the other two. Still a lot of time, but I think the team might eventually be best served by just riding with a Yelich-Chourio-Frelick OF.
  6. What a catch by Sal to rob Trout. I honestly don't think you can take him out of the OF.
  7. Better play is to trade Contreras in a couple years for a haul to keep the pipeline flowing.
  8. Chourio exits prospect ranking season (likely for the final time) as the consensus #2 prospect in baseball (among the 6 major outlets) behind Jackson Holliday and the highest ranked Brewers prospect of all time. Gary Sheffield, his only other real competitor, just predated the rankings era. https://www.actionnetwork.com/mlb/mlb-top-prospects-rankings-2024
  9. Guy was masquerading as a Cubbie his entire life. Good riddance and will thoroughly enjoy every Brewers W over the Cubs for the rest of his tenure, however long it lasts.
  10. I just don't see Frelick at 3B for a meaningful amount of time. 2B could be a different story, but 3B is a bit of a stretch imo. If I had to guess right now, Frelick still sees the majority of the season in the OF.
  11. I think he's going to keep the foot on the gas pedal and force his way up eventually. Hits the ball too hard to be in the minors for long. Unless he runs into contact issues, but so far so good on that front.
  12. Very nice sound off the bat here as he splits the gap between the shortstop and the third baseman. He's still a teenager for a few weeks folks.
  13. One of my predictions for this season is that he'll be the primary 3rd baseman by the end of the season.
  14. I'm starting to think he'll be sharing 1B duties with Tyler Black at some time in the not too distant future.
  15. If there's one player on this team that I'm not worried about losing his ability to hit a baseball learning a new position, it's Sal Frelick....
  16. Wes Clarke goes yard again!
  17. I think some people really underappreciate the extent to which Frelick's thumb injury sapped him of his power last year. He's never going to be a bopper, but he's got more power than he showed. That, combined with his elite BTB skills and his demonstrated ability to get on base will make for a fun player to have at the top of the lineup. Probably settling in around 2-3 annual WAR, maybe a little higher in his peak seasons.
  18. T-Minus 20 minutes until Brandon Woodruff is officially moved to the 60 Day IL....
  19. Honestly this makes it likely one of Turang, Wiemer, Mitchell, or Monasterio is going to get left off the OD roster.
  20. This ST is going to be so intriguing between all the younger guys, and I'm totally up for it.
  21. I view it as a 4 team race between Mil, CHC, STL, and CIN with any team having a reasonable shot to take it based on how several factors play out. If I had a gun to my head I would probably still pick the Brewers, but I wouldn't feel great about it. I do strongly disagree with the prognostications that put the Cardinals ahead of.the pack. Their rotation will be improved, but the additions that they made aren't as needle moving as people think. And Goldschmidt and Arenado are another year older. It will take big leaps from their young hitters such as Walker, Gorman, etc. Pirates are behind the pack, but I wouldn't totally rule them out. They've got some nice young talent.
