  1. Bowden resigns. Continues to talk about the "false allegations" and says he's only leaving because he's become a distraction. Sure Jim, whatever you say.
  2. I've got two tickets to this show and just realized I can't go. Looking for $20 each, which is less than I paid for tickets and service charges. Turner Hall is general admission.
  3. I don't think Cordero complicates anything since he most likely won't be ready to pitch at a major-league level on Opening Day. From the articles I've read, it sounds like teams are looking to give Cordero a minor-league deal and that he hopes to be ready sometime early in the season.
  4. The deal buys out all three arby years, the option is the first FA year. Dejan Kovacevic is reporting that there is $15.75MM guaranteed.
  5. What is the Brewers' fascination with Vinny Rottino? He can't make it past the Looper transaction, can he?
  6. How do you know Braun's contract is the same as Mauer's?
  7. I don't think the importance stems from leading off innings or getting more at bats, rather that the 1 and 2 guys in the lineup are the ones that are on base for your best run producers.
  8. Kenendy must have been too anti-steroid for LaRussa. Or maybe he didn't see the appeal of a good merlot.
  9. To me, there are several disturbing parts to this story: First, the team only found out about this when Green mentioned it to someone at the Winter Warm Up. Why didn't he mention it some other time this offseason, so he could at least have it looked at? Second, why wasn't the team following up on an injury that was serious enough to end a season? I realize the responsibility falls more on the player to speak up if they're hurt, but this isn't some organizational soldier scrub, this is one of the organization's top prospects.
  10. I'm also sorry to see Jim go. My favorite memory of him was from one night last summer. Taking a walk with my infant son, radio on the stroller, listening to Jim describe Skip Carey after Skip's passing. I grew up in the South as well, and listened to many a game with Skip and shared many of the same laughs Jim described in his improptu tribute. For me it's fitting that Jim is taking Skip's place in the booth.
  11. Years ago, someone in my office kept receiving faxes that were just blank pages. We assumed that the person sending the fax was just putting the fax in upside-down when sending it. Nope. She was folding it in half before faxing it, so no one would see it laying on the fax machine on the other end.
  12. Our house has been on a big "Cat in the Hat" kick lately. Mike Myers + Alec Baldwin + Live Action = fun for kids with plenty of subtle grown-up humor.
  13. I think Melvin wants to avoid being the only one out there with an offer for Sheets, which ultimately means he's over bidding (against no one). Imagine if Melvin had offered the 4/60 proposed earlier in this thread. I think Sheets will stay out there, and the Brewers will get involved when Sheets realizes that that 2/25 (or maybe even 1/12) is the best he's going to do.
  14. Hopefully, since we'd only get a sandwich and a 3rd for Sheets.
  15. Baggarly has updated his blog with a note that the "Brewers are emerging as the frontrunner."
  16. As a kid in North Carolina, I was a huge baseball fand and cheered for the Braves. If I was lucky, we'd make it to Atlanta once a summer for a weekend series. Mostly we went to South Atlantic League games. I was 10 when my father got transferred to Milwaukee. He chose to break the news by asking if I'd like to move to a city with a major league team. I guessed Milwaukee on about the 22nd guess. We moved right before the Braves ripped off 14 straight playoff years.
  17. Oh, you don't have to go to Craigslist, just to Milwaukee.
  18. This makes it harder for me to dislike Karl as a person, but as a player he's one of my least favorites. My most vivid memory was Uecker calling a game during one of those nightmare seasons, with Karl continually going to full counts. Ueck was pretty brutal, wondering aloud why Karl didn't just groove one on the first pitch, instead of nibbling and grooving one on 3-1. It was probably the most brutally-honest I've ever heard Ueck (at least in a story not involving Tyler Houston).
  19. KLaw already found it. Link including great comments about TH.
  20. Warren Buffet feels the same way. Link
  21. According to Paul DePodesta, the Padres claimed him. Since he works there, I'm inclined to believe him.
  22. I have an extra DVD voucher (no towel) if anyone wants it. PM me, I'll send it out today.
  23. There are a ton of tickets on craigslist right now, if you don't want to pay that premium just wait. Prices will come down. You might have to make last minute plans, but that's better than not going.
